What the title says. :) I'm just finding out about all these natural alternatives to face wash, natural cleaners, etc, etc. So I'm curious what you guys plan to use for baby wash and lotion? (I have a 19 month old that I use Burts Bees on right now, but not sure I like it, it still dries her out a bit and seems to have too much fragrance in it?) Any tips for me?

We use the California Baby shampoo/body wash, conditioner, and occasionally hand lotion, that are fragrance-free (they also make versions with fragrances). The first few months we just used warm water for washing and breastmilk for skin issues--still my preferred substance for dry skin, but doesn't happen often.

We didn't use anything for the first few months or so, and still don't every time we bathe him, but a couple times a week we use Aveeno Baby Wash. It's creamy and fragrance free and makes his skin soft (he is somewhat prone to eczema and has very sensitive skin)

burts bees was too harsh for dd 1 when she was infant. cali baby was drying. we're using cetaphil cleanser and lotion with dd 2 with better result. miss the yummy smells from burt's bees though!

At first, nothing as well.
I have used Aubrey's Organics baby wash in the past which is all natural, but dh didn't like the smell. I think I'll stick with a tiny amount of Bronners diluted if the baby is super dirty (i.e. vomit or something equally gross smelling:p).

With my daughter, who has eczema & sensitive/allergic skin, which is particularly aggrivated in the winter, we use water with Aveeno 100% colloidal oatmeal in the water, as a wash. The aveeno sensitive skin baby wash works well to wash her hair, and doesn't seem to aggrivate her skin, when it gets in the water.

I use eucerine lotion/aquaphor on her for particularly dry spots.

Over the past 2+ years, I have tried ALL of the natural soaps/non-soaps/washes/lotions.

Unfortunately, as much as I'd like to use the organic/natural products, Aveeno, Eucerine, and Aquaphor are the only things that don't aggrivate her skin sensitivities. Strangely, the eucerine lotion makes me itch! :dizzy:
I would not recommend the eucerine wash... though it doesn't bother her skin, it does contain parabens.

For the first few months, until baby is crawling/actually starting to get dirty, I don't see any reason to use soap/body wash at all.

both of my girls have eczema and the best i found was using burts bees apricot baby oil with a small drop of tea tree oil occasionally. mostly we just used the oil in the warm bath water and a soft washcloth. it worked best and continues to work best for us.

Here is a great resource for finding out what is in lots of products (natural, "natural" and not). http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep2/?key=nosign

I agree with PP about little babes needing nothing but water usually. If we do use something it is usually California Baby, although my mom just got some Avalon Organics Baby Wash and I think I liked it.

Probably the California Baby bodywash/shampoo (hate the idea of having 2 separate products for a nearly hairless baby!) and then some Weleda Baby oils/lotions/creams if/as needed.

We like California Babies or the Arbonne baby wash for the lil' ones. My DS uses Aveeno baby wash now that he's older and his skin is less sensitive. He had a HORRID reaction to the Baby Bees products (except the diaper ointment - we LOVE that stuff!)

I use the baby soap bar from northern essense. It's just gentle soap, no additives, no dies, no fragrance.

We also use Avalon Organics for baby....initially, we used the Johnson and Johnson stuff (then we moved to organics). My husband thought that the Avalon organics smelled really good, and its the combo body wash/shampoo deal.

We don't use anything... not even on her hair and it's always silky smooth and smells really good :shrug We put olive oil on her head every couple weeks to moisturize, but nothing else. We're all shampoo free and dh and I use an unscented natural soap that we've had for years on ourselves (dh's mom bought it a long time ago and really stocked up!) and I don't know what it is...

love and peace. :love

I forgot when I posted before that we used Cetaphil for a while, but then I got exposed to the EWG Skin Deep web site and learned it had some ingredients in it I didn't want to put on my baby.

I still don't use soap with either of my girls (5 and 2.5) :duck: . It's too drying. I'll put Aveeno in for bubbles and I figure that does the job. When they were babies, I found Burts Bees products too strong-scented (babies smell great the way they are!!!!!!!). For hair I liked California Baby (I love their lotions and powder too!!!)

Just water for the first couple months, then every once in a while we'll use Dr. Bronner's baby smelling kind of soap. :p

I've never used lotion...

I used Dove for sensitive skin on dd1. Its great, but you obviously cannot use it on the baby's head/hair. I have some Burt's Bees baby wash for this little bean, the same stuff I used for dd2.

I thought I'd have to trek out to Whole Foods or the co-op (I'm in the burbs and all the cool stuff is in the city proper), but I found California Baby at Target! The "calming" scent is so nice I might steal it for myself.

Just water at first, then California Baby.
