Inspired007 -- my sister found out with my nephew, but her DH didn't want to know. I can't believe it, but we really did all keep it from him until the baby was born! Also, friends of ours, the DH wanted to know but the DW didn't -- so he found out and kept it to himself the whole pregnancy -- I bugged him to tell me but he didn't crack. They literally bought boy and girl clothes, then took back the boy stuff after their DD was born (gender neutral room).

So maybe you could find out and not tell DH?

We waited to find out with both of our boys, and will most likely with this one. For bedding and such, I always knew I wanted something neutral, anyway, so we got an animal theme that I just loved, and went with primary colors. No yellows and greens! :D

With the first, I *knew* it was a boy, and so we had an assortment of gender neutral AND boy clothes. Almost nothing girly. With the 2nd, I was sure it was a girl - already had boy clothes so bought girl stuff! But "she" had a few extra parts! :lol So I took back most of the girl stuff and saved some for this baby! :D Now I'm likely buy girly stuff, at least a bit, but only what I LOVE and hopefully stuff I can return later if necessary.

All that to say, it may be possible to shop AND wait - but it takes a little creativity. ;)

I remember reading about some nice colour combos for kids' rooms that were gender neutral but still neat -- things like denim blue, granny smith apple green, and orange orange... if you google around for modern nursery colour schemes or something similar, you might find something gender neutral that you really like.
