View Full Version : how can i stop the contrax?

i'm nearly 34 weeks. i've been having contractions for 24 hours now, sometimes as close together as 3 minutes, sometimes i get an hour where i only have one or two.
while these FEEL like early/mild labor contractions, they are not. they are not escalating, my cervix is not changing, and the baby is not in distress.
so they're "just" BH, but quite painful (i feel them in my back as well as my abdomen). i'm exhausted and tired of the pain.
things i've tried to no avail:
water
lying on my left side
warm bath
walking
bouncing on the balance ball
distracting myself
going to the bathroom (all of this contracting is having me emptying my bladder and bowels frequently)
what else can i try?

Calcium Magnesium will settle "irratable" muscles.
Do you know what position your baby is in? I'd do some optimal fetal positioning stuff (www.spinningbabies.com) because an OP baby can sometimes be accompanied by more BH and or more noticible/painful BH.
If you "do" chiropractic care, now would be a good time for it too.

You can make a tea of catnip and cramp bark and drink a quart or so a day. (one tbsn catnip and 1 tbsn cramp bark per quart)

Yes, as a suppliement. You can take them together or seperate. My midwife had me take 1000 to 1500 mg daily of calcium for quieting my uterus, and I also take a magnesium suppliment (not sure how much of it).

 I agree with the wine - that's what my mw says to do to tell if it's real labor: glass o wine and a bath!

thanks, all. i had a glass of wine, took some cal-mag supplements, took some cranberry in case it's a hidden UTI. midwife essentially says if it's not labor, try to live with it. i've let her know that i'm adding the cal-mag and cranberry (and wine!) and she's all for those suggestions.
i only woke up once last night, so i think these things helped (or the wine just helped me sleep through them).
dana. i owe you an email!

Cramp bark tincture is also helpful in these situations.
Other herbs (tinctures being the easiest) that are helpful for relaxation and thus can be helpful in this situation is skullcap, hops, passionflower, and oat straw.

i'm glad last night was better. i've always been told to drink red wine to see if labor was real or not :)
no sweat about the email.

I've also heard that some progesterone cream rubbed on the inside of the forearm can help.
