View Full Version : Are you telling people yet?

We're not telling anyone in real life yet, so having y'all to chat with is really scratching an itch for me. I'm anxious to tell people, and not so good at keeping good news secret, but we want to wait and enjoy it a while before sharing. Also, my baby's birthday is coming up (she'll be TWO!!!), and we'll actually be traveling quite a distance to celebrate with family, and I don't want to steal from her thunder.

Then again, it would be nice to tell everyone in person, since we don't live near family. I'll be almost six weeks. Seems awful early!

The problem for me is how badly I want to tell my girls (four and almost two) about the pregnancy. They simply adore babies, and my four-year-old is obsessed with all things pregnancy-and-baby. She pretends she's pregnant all the time, and her favorite lady at church is one who just had a baby. They will be so excited when we tell them, and I want soooo badly to--but we can't spill the beans to them until we're ready for THE WHOLE WORLD to know. Because they certainly can't keep a secret!

Anyone else telling/not telling? When did/will you? How did/will you? I need cool ideas.

DH doesn't want to tell -- I am sitting here working on a shirt for DS to wear in photos to send out to announce .....

butttttttttttttttttttttttttt I already told one person IRL and I refuse to wait -- it will be waaaaaaaaaaaaay hard for me to wait for people to get the photos as it is...................

I see no reason to wait......... we announced DS on the day I got the pos test.

With your DD's BD though, I would wait. Till after the party -- I thought I was going to be able to announce at DS's first birthday party -- but he is so young he'd not get it. I wouldn't do it at a 2 + party....... but right afterwards...................

Oh I always tell right away. I can't get my smile off my face so someone would know something was up anyway.
Last Wednesday morning I woke up to pee, used the kids bathroom and tested with my 2 and 4 yr olds sitting right outside the door. I then told them and they got excited. Then I woke up my 8 yr old by sticking the test in her face. she was thrilled. I ran down to dh who was in the shower and held the test against the glass. My kids are SOOOOO excited!! My 2 year old pulled up my shirt this morning to "listen to the baby." And my 4 year old asks me at dinner, "So mommy, how is your baby doing?" My 8 year old is an old pro and totally used to this by now. :lol We've already read some pregnancy books for kids, looked at A Child Is Born, and watched a UC birth dvd since we found out. We are totally looking forward to this baby, can't you tell. HAHA

My phone has been out so I loaded the pic of my positive test onto my photo site and Instant Messaged my parents. I said to go look at the new pics. My mom was so excited- that is as creative as I've ever gotten. :lol

I love that idea! I have a yahoo360 page for my guys, since most our family lives cross country. Maybe when we're ready to tell, we can use that to do it.

So far, I've told my best friend. She knows how to keep quiet though. Sadly, my mom will be last. I'm really tired of hearing 'is that all you know how to do' comments from her, so don't expect to much from her. We had mc a few years back, so I'll want to wait to tell. But I'm sure we wont be able to. He's already said that as soon as the stick is dark enough to believe it, he's calling his mom. We're in the middle of planning a trip out here for them, so it will effect plans. They were talking about meeting at Disneyworld, which will definately be out of the question.

I'd love to hear how you guys are telling, I love creative ideas. A past one we used was that I put the test in one of those cutesie holiday baby bottles and put it in my moms stocking. Her face was hysterical :lol

Well, I'm supposed to be off to bed, guess I should stop playing on here

I told DH by writing inside one of DDs diapers "I'm going to be a big sister" then put that one on the top of the pile and asked him to change her :)

We are still debating when to tell- BIL & SIL have been TTC for a few months now and SIL is a total wreck about it. She's only been off the pill for about 5/6 months and they started trying right away when she stopped taking it. I've tried to tell her that it will take a while to get out of her system, but she's convinced something is wrong. And now they aren't talking about it at all, and saying that they've decided to put off trying for a while- But BIL has told DH that they are still trying and that SIL has been to the doctor to find out "what's wrong." :duh

Sooo anyway, we're trying to figure out how to tell them. So we can't tell MIL until we're ready for them to know because she can't keep a secret. And we don't want to tell my family until just before we tell MIL because she gets all weird. So, one mommy friend locally knows, because I know she won't say anything, and besides, she doesn't know anyone in my family!

We can't keep a secret! We held off for 10 whole weeks with James, I nearly went INSANE wanting to tell people. So this time we said screw it and told everyone right away, I really see no reason to wait.

I had a m/c in september but my dr agreed it was just one of those fluke deals and I'm not higher risk than anyone else. LOL Besides, I have a real 'peace' about this pregnancy so I'm not scared (well maybe just a little, but not a whole lot)

I had this plan that I was gonna get DS a shirt that says "I'm the BIG brother!" and take his pic and email it to everyone but DH started blabbing so there shot that idea! LOL I had to hurry up and tell my mom and dad before they heard it through the grapevine! LOL

So far told my SIL, my mom, and my sister. The same people who knew when I was pg with my angel baby last year. I had to at least tell them just in case things don't go the way they are supposed to, they will be my main support system outside of DH. I want to be able to have an u/s pic to tell the rest of the family, but I'll have to wait about 4 weeks for that. Hopefully it works out this time. Didn't get to that point last time.

We waited till 12 weeks with our dd. With this one we said 8 weeks, but after having dinnner with his family last night that wont be too possible. Were shooting for 6 weeks now!

I have only told 2 friends and my plan is to wait until after my first appointment with my midwife to tell everyone else- but I don't know if I can hold out that long.

I am trying to think of a cute way to tell my parents. They live far away so I won't be able to tell them in person. I am thinking about sending something baby related in the mail.

We're telling immediate family only for now. With Ds1 we waited until we heard his heartbeat at 8 wks to tell family, everyone else at 12 wks.

I've had two m/c and don't want to have to deal with the "fallout" if I have another. i.e. after the m/c friends who you're not that close to fawning all over you and saying things that are not helpful.

My "rule" is to tell people you're pg if you'd tell them you're having a m/c. We'll tell those few close friends soon too, I think.

In the meantime, I am loving this DDC board. It helps me channel all that energy and happiness about being pg! I have a REALLY good feeling about this pregnancy. I hope it all works out :)

I've told my best friend and youngest sister. I am waiting to tell the rest of the family till 12 weeks. I bought DS a shirt last summer that says I'm the big brother. I am going to put him in it and show up for our weekly sat. dinner at my parents and wait till someone says something. It is really hard to talk to them and not spill the beans but DH wants to wait. Everyone knew right away with DS since I was seeing a RE and living at my parents since we had just moved to Calif. My SIL was the one who brought the test over and made me take it, I totally didn't think we were PG because we hadn't tried that month since we were at my parents. My mom jokes that DS is her favorite grandchild because he was conceived at her house.:lol I can't believe I still have to wait 7 1/2 weeks to tell everyone.

I told my mom and stepdad. I was talking to my mom on the phone after I got + and she just blurted out of no where, "Are you pregnant?"! We weren't even discussing baby related things.

We won't tell anyone else til 12 weeks. We live far from all of our family so it is hard not to see their faces/reactions.

In the last three days I have had 3 other people ask if I was pregnant! What is that about? Can you give off a pregnant vibe? Nobody even knew we had been trying. It is VERY strange. I didn't tell them, but it was really hard not to shout YES from the top of my lungs.

Yesterday I went to the dentist and the first thing the hygenist asks me is, "Are you pregnant?" Not a hi or any problems with your teeth. Then when DH gets home from work he tells me one of his friends out of the blue asked if I was pregnant!

Where is this coming from? Nobody know we were trying. It is freaking me out a little bit.

Please, someone else tell me that they are having random people ask them if they are pregnant!?!

I went to get my hair cut tonight and on the way out I see someone I haven't seen for a couple months. She asked if I was pregnant!!!

It isn't like I look pregnant! I actually have lost 50 pounds in the last 6 months. We haven't shared the news with anyone except my mom who lives 750 miles away from us.

I don't like lying to people, so I just smile and say we don't have any news to share yet.

HI all..I'm just lurking here while I wait for my late period to show up, lol! But I just had respond to Heather--that happened to me a lot when I was PG for my first. I think it just showed in my face--I'm terrible at keeping a secret.

We are waiting a bit, probably till about 10 weeks. My ILs live out of state and will be here visiting then, and I know my hubby would love to tell them in person (the last two pgs we had to tell them over the phone). If it were just me, I would wait until about 12 weeks, just because I had a M/C before DS and it made me really nervous to share too early. . not that something couldn't happen then too, but thats just my worrysome nature, lol!

I told my sis and brother because I *had* to since I was in a family "situation" relating to my aged father and lifting him and his chair, as soon as I said I can't lift him (SOOOO out of character for me!) my sis said OMG are you pg?? well, I would make a horrible poker player so that was that (and it was a mere hrs after the pee stick!)

I also told my assistant since she knew my period was late and we work very closely togethre and I would never be able to keep it from her

I also told my previous assistant (we remain very close) she has a newborn and HAs had mulitple MC's so I needed some advice/perspective

We are not planning on sharing with anyone else until we get a HB, at least, since we are VERY nervous based on my age (42) and my total Lack of symptoms (unheard of for me)

we will tell both our boys 1st they are 16 and 6, but not until after 1st doc appt MAr 22 (hopefully it is not too early for HB, I can't remember the timing on that..)

We've told our parents and one sister (the one who is happy for us). We don't to tell anyone else until after my first appt on April 2nd. Another one of my sisters just started trying and is very competative and I am afraid she is going to get upset if she finds out I am pregnant even though we tried forever for this little one and she has been trying for two weeks.
She is one of those "why do you always have to steal my thunder?" kind of people even if you are just living your life.
Oh well......

We've told some people.

When I got the + test, dh was still sleeping - so I taught ds to say 'I'm a big brother' and then we went upstairs to wake up daddy and I told dh that ds wants to tell him something. So ds says 'Me bee bro' and dh had no clue what he had said :lol so I translated it. The first thing dh says to me is to go buy some prenatal vitamins :lol

I told a few close friends and dh told some of his close friends, but we haven't told any family yet. With ds, we told all family the day we found out (Christmas morning 2003) and we had just moved out of state, so it was actually kinda depressing b/c we were all alone :(

But this time we are waiting to tell family b/c we are going to visit them all early next month and I think it will be more fun to tell them in person. I am getting a friend to make a shirt for me the says 'Big Brother in training' and I am just gonna let ds wear it and see how long it takes people to notice! :lol

I have no self control...I have told just about everyone (that matters), except a couple of relations who are chronic complainers, as I don't want to hear how our house is small, or we aren't millionaires, etc. With dd, I was only 20, and scared, and in a bad relationship, so not telling people for a while was a given. No one congratulated me, although I did get more support as the time passed. This time things are at the opposite end of the spectrum, the pg was planned, and so far everyone is really excited and happy for us.
I am way too excited to keep it to myself, and honestly, I would rather have the support of my family and my girlfriends if something were to go wrong.

DH and I are terrible at keeping secrets! I told one friend IRL, but that's it. I would like to wait another week (till I'm 5 weeks at least, even though that's still pretty early). In the meantime, dh and I are going to put together a dvd with slideshow pictures of the girls as babies and at the end have our older dd announce the pregnancy and show the positive test. We're going to mail this to our parents (who aren't real internet savvy) and then we'll post it for the rest of our friends. That's the plan! I have some friends I just started running with though and I think I should bail on that soon so they may find out sooner than I expected. They are planning on me running with them tonight. I've read that running is not recommended unless you are an avid runner and you should always keep your heart rate under 140, which I know I can't do when running. So, no more for me. :D

We did this last time, and it was so fun. Had our daughter wear a shirt that said, "Big Sister," and waited to see what happened. Some noticed right away, while others (my father-in-law!) took a long time, so that by the end, everyone was trying to get him to noticed the shirt. It was a hoot.

We decided to tell our daughters. It was so fun! My older one keeps hugging me and saying, "I'm hugging two people!"

I think we'll tell our dd's tonight. I'm so anxious! My older dd is so into all things pregnancy and baby related and fully intends to be at the birth of our next baby. She's been asking when she will get a new baby for a long times. I just wanted to take another test first to confirm it. I was having a hard time believing it. But I got a digital EPT today that said "pregnant" after about 5 second!

I've told a couple of people. I'm trying to figure out how to tell my mom and dad. I may be the only child (out of 5) to have kids, and I am definitely the first but I don't know how to tell them yet. Anyone have any ideas? They live 1000 miles away though, so I can't go see them right now...

With my first, I was so excited, I just called them up and told them. This time we'll be making and sending a dvd with baby pics of the kids and with our oldest announcing the good news at the end. That doesn't really work for you. If you get an early ultrasound (and want to wait that long to tell them) you could mail them pics and put a caption like "do you want to be my grandma and grandpa?" Or just send them a card from their new "grandchild", especially since they don't have any grandchildren yet. That would get their attention.

We told my parents who are very close to me, so if there were something to happen, i would tell them anyways. They live on another continent, so I had to do it over the phone. I am going to email my best friend from High school very soon, she and I have always spilled the beans to each other as soon as we have known:) and I will tell my best friend IRL who lives here next week. She is going to be only one for now I can tell it to in person. I am going to burst and die:lol But we had such a hard time with my last pregnancy and I had so much bleeding in my 1st trimester, i am cautious.

I've told my parents, my brother and sister, my best friend Becca, and put it on my blog-- which very few people that I know IRL read. I'm not telling work yet, except for one co-worker b/c she knew I was TTC and I HAD to tell someone there, it was driving me crazy.

I'm the oldest 'kid' in my family, so this is the first grandkid, first neice/nephew etc. Everyone is exited, although my dad's first response was a WHAT????? that reverberated through the phone.

I told my close friends and my mom. DH doesn't want to tell, so I say he can wait :P No matter what happens, I want the support of my girls. I dont really get the whole "wait" thing. To me it kind of goes after that whole "Early miscarriages dont matter" thing and I want to abolish that in any little way I can :) Im going back home next week and my MIL is going to take me out to dinner. She's going to wonder why I dont want to sample all the wine D:
