I just found out that we are moving because my dh got a job offer in houston. I am 35 weeks already with #4, so I really need some good recomendations for some great midwives who do home births in the woodlands/conroe area.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Christina

Check this out ...

I am deliving at a hospital, but this place advertises all the time about their birthing center. Maybe other women from Houston can give more feedback. Also contact the LLL Houston ladies - they know a lot of the midwives.

If you are interested in having a home birth, Pat Jones is my recommendation. She is someone who listens to your needs throughout your pregnancy and strives to meet them. She has her own practice called Women's Health and Birth Care and has been a midwife for over 23 years. She is located in the Rice area, which I realize is a little far for you, but she is well worth it. We had our second child at home, but we drove 35 miles one-way to have our regular visits with Pat. We had our first child with Nativiti. They have a different style than Pat and I can provide more details in a private message. We are developing a new web site for Pat Jones to serve as an information resource for parents. The site is new, but we are updating it almost daily. It also has a discussion board for parents in the Houston area to meet one another. Her web site will provide recommended doctors, book lists, information on Pat's birth class, and much more. By the way, her birth class is excellent. It really prepares you for having a baby at home. Eventhough it was our second birth through a midwife, I still learned a great deal from her class.

I second Nativiti. Melanie Dossey helped me deliver my Annabelle in November of 2001. I can not say enough good things about the ladies there. It was worth the 4 hour round trip drive I made for every appointment!

Christina,

Congratulations on your pregnancy - you are almost there!

You may want to check out this link: http://www.texasmidwives.com/region4.html
It has a pretty good list of midwives in the area.

I used Cathy Rude and had a great birth. Here is her website: http://www.christianmidwife.net/

Picking a midwife is so subjective. I hope you find the right one for you and your family.

I used Sallie Witte from Montgomery County Midwifery. She lives in Cleveland, right next to Conroe. She was great and although I only met one of her partners, Arlene, I loved them both. They had very different styles of care and I know you'll be able to find someone you "jive" with. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I had the baby in July. I used Sallie Witte, but it was her backup midwife who ended up being here for the birth. We had an awesome birth....very hands off. Practically a UC in my opinion. I didn't even see the midwife until after the baby was all ready born, and I asked her to come in and access the baby's condition. He was sleeping when he was born, and wouldn't even bother to wake up and give us a little peep! He waited about and hour and a half to ever cry....that was when the midwife took him from me for his newborn exam. :love

From what I have heard Nativity is MUCH better now, than before it moved. So I think for those who do not want a homebirth Nativity would be a great option.
