Hi folks,

I know this has been mentioned now in several threads, but I thought it would be good to have a thread devoted exclusively to this event. Sorry for the late notice.

My good friends are arranging a natural parenting event in Amsterdam on March 25th at 10:30 (note that this is like 9:30 due to daylight savings time). It's currently scheduled to be at the ABC Treehouse near the Spui, but they are trying to find a different venue because of the fantastic response that they've received. They are currently anticipating 75 adults and 40 kids to attend.

Here's a little excerpt from the flier:

There will be two short talks (in English) from:
- Beatrijs Smulders, world famous advocate for natural childbirth and founder
of Het Geboortecentrum (www.geboortecentrum.nl)
NOTE: Beatrijs Smulders canceled, so another Dutch midwife, apparently known for being willing to bend the rules, will be taking her place.
- Bernadette van Zuidam, board member of Attachment Parenting
International Europe and co-founder of Platform Natuurlijk Ouderschap
(www.natuurlijkouderschap.org)
The two talks will be followed by time to mingle, and there will be experts on
hand to discuss breastfeeding (La Leche League), baby wearing, co-sleeping, baby massage, baby sign language, acupuncture during pregnancy and labour, home schooling in the Netherlands and more.

The main attraction for me is the opportunity to meet other like-minded parents -- that sure feels like a rarity here, but given the great turnout, maybe there are more of us than we all realize!

The cost is EUR5 per family.

If you want to attend, please e-mail natural_parenting@yahoo.com.

Oh, and if you are planning to attend, please post to this thread. We should make an effort to meet each other in person on the day.

Hi Sarah! I plan to attend with my DD, that is if she gets well in time (think we've got a cold here again :fever: )
EDIT: Well, I guess I'm not going after all. DD's condition is progressing but I'm afraid she's not well enough to go out yet :(
Hope we'll meet up sometime in the future then. Have fun!

Yeah, it was good. Katie, Amy and I attended from MDC; I'm not aware of anyone else.

The speakers were Bernadette from AP International and a midwife called Laura who seemed really great. Then there were a bunch of tables that various providers of pregnancy/baby/family products/services were running. The turnout was really great and people seemed to have a very good time.

At the meeting, I learned that there's a new English-language Dutch AP yahoo group in addition to the existing Dutch-language one. The Dutch one is called ap-nl and the English one is ap-en.

I hope they'll do more. It was definitely a success, so let's hope so.

Suzy, I hope Laura is feeling better now.

The weather here is fantastic. It's supposed to still be great tomorrow. Not a cloud over the whole country! Enjoy your sun now, though, because you know how things are over here -- it's bound to be rainy by the time you get here...

as we say in Dutch: maart roert zijn staart en april doet wat hij wil.... means basically that the weather is really unpredictable still.. and that it might be freezing again next week yeah :gloomy: ... well we'll see!!!

enjoy the spring as long as possible!!!
