When I went in last week for my 41 wk (!) checkup, my CNM pushed really hard for me to let her check my cervix. With my first pg, I wasn't checked at all until I got to the hospital when I was in labor. I didn't want to be checked this time, either, mainly because I was afraid that it wouldn't be good and she would use it to try (again :rolleyes: ) to talk me into scheduling a repeat c/s.
Well, I ended up letting her check me, and guess what? I was 3 cm dilated, 80 % effaced, AND baby was at +2 station!!!! She couldn't believe it. She's been saying all along that the reason ds was late and my labor was so slow was that he never descended into my pelvis (even during pushing, I could only get him down to 0 station), and she has been trying to keep me from getting too emotionally invested in having a VBAC this time around. After she realized how low the baby is already, she seemed optimistic about a VBAC for the first time. I feel so much better now--maybe this will actually work this time!!
