I can't sleep. I'm 12w, and this started a few days ago. I toss and turn for a couple hours before finally falling asleep. I'm genuinely tired, I'm ready for bed, the bed is nice and comfy, I feel fine -- WHY CAN'T I SLEEP?!?!?!? :dizzy:
I had insomnia with my first pregnancy, but only at the very beginning and I attributed a lot of it just to feeling so excited about being pregnant. Now this is my third pregnancy and while I'm happy, it's not keeping me up at night! What gives? When will this end?
I'm not pregnant (haven't ever been, yet) but I have had insomnia since childhood. I just wanted to offer you a few suggestions that might help you cope until your hormones allow you to sleep well again. I have found that, largely, the way you think of it can really affect your mood, plus your ability to sleep later on in the night. I think it helps to A) don't work yourself into frustration, that just makes it harder to sleep later B) think of being in bed without sleeping as resting (you are still resting if you're laying down) and just let your mind wander into a nice daydream. I used to use the same daydream every time of me riding a horse in a field (loved horses as a kid) and if I really focus on the details and imagine every little bit of the scenario (what the horse feels like, smells like, the hooves hitting the ground, what I'm wearing, the weather, etc) I fall asleep almost every time. Try to feel positive about going to bed. Instead of thinking, oh great, here I go to lay there for hours not being able to sleep......try to think, ok I'm going to lay down in my cozy bed and rest my body and have a nice little daydream.... You're much more likely to be able to relax enough to sleep, or at least not to feel so frustrated. I know it can be a very difficult thing to deal with. HTH

Oh boy was I EVER in your shoes...
Insomina throughout the entire 1st trimester, occasional insomnia throughout 2nd, and now bouts of it in the 3rd.
The first trimester was really frustrating. I had terrible m/s too and I'd be up everynight like clockwork, wide awake at 2am and barfing my head off. I usually went back to bed at 4:30-5AM and slept until seven. My body had a difficult time adjusting to pregnancy, I guess... :o My solution was to just "roll with it". I had a computer game I liked to play (Sims2) and that helped a lot. I tried to avoid stimulating activites, like surfing on the net for baby-related info/stuff.
I feel for ya. It was really frustrating.:hug

I've been having this trouble the last week or so (at 17-18 weeks). I feel tired, I get in bed, turn out the lights and all of a sudden... I'm awake. :irked:
I've found though that if I lay down after DH leaves for work (not an option for everyone, I realize), or even lie down on the beanbag in the evening, that I have no trouble getting a nap. I actually "napped" for about 3 hours this morning. I just can't seem to sleep at night.
I wonder if that should be telling me something about what kind of hours this little one will be keeping. :)

My DH snores so loudly. It sounds like a donkey braying. I'm usually such a good sleeper that I can sleep through it. It's impossible now though. Once I wake up in the middle of the night (inevitable with DS nursing), I'm doomed to be awake for a loooong time :gloomy:

I just started having trouble sleeping. Its like no matter what I do I cant get comfortable. My shirt is twisted, I'm cold, I don't have enough room, I don't have enough blankets, the bed is at a wierd angle, the toddler is in the way, etc etc. I am miserable this morning :( I've never had trouble sleeping and when I first got pregnant, up until 2 weeks ago, I slept all the time, even extra naps every afternoon at 4. I'm 12 weeks now and suddenly have insomnia :( I'd probably be able to sleep after DH goes to work, but my toddler wont have any of that.

I'm 15w now and glad I'm not the only one losing shuteye. I seem to be on this weird schedule where one night I'll sleep like the dead and the next, I'm up every hour and sleeping shallowly. What gives?
