PB's Mom

Adam is finally here. He was actually born on his due date. I had been hoping for earlier and was getting impatient. My Dr. scheduled me for an induction on Monday, the 31st. I didn't make it to Monday.
I had really wanted to avoid induction, and avoid an epidural/pain medication, so I was hoping for a fast delivery. Friday night, the 29th, I was working late in the garage (I have a home business) and decided to go to bed finally at about 12:00. I planned to get up in the morning and walk to try to start labor. Well, I decided to go ahead and walk around the couch several times before going to bed. I walked for about 2 minutes, and my side was hurting and I was cramping a little. So I stopped and went to bed. About an hour later I rolled over and felt my water leaking. I was still uncomfortable and wasn't sure if it was just my side, or if I was having contractions. So I decided to get up and start timing the pain. I finally decided they were contractions and they were about 8-10 minutes apart. I told my husband, who was just about ready to go to bed. We waited another hour, until about 2am and called the Dr.'s office. They said to go ahead and come in to the hospital. My contractions were now 6-8 minutes apart and my water was still leaking. I also had what looked like the "plug" coming out. We called my Mom, who lives next door and tried to decide what to do with my 3 yr old. He ended up waking up and wanted to go with us, so we took him and my Mom and headed for the hospital.
We got to the hospital about 3:15 and couldn't figure out how to get in after hours. We didn't know where the emergency room entrance was. Luckily the security guard saw us and let us in. When they checked me I was at 4-5 cm and 100% effaced. I told them I didn't want an epidural. The contractions were not fun. I had some contractions that were 3 in a row. They went down a little and then right back up. They checked me again about 4:45 and I was at 6cm. They told me I better get the epidural now if I wanted it. I said no, and decided to try to get up and sit in the shower. Once I got in the shower I didn't have my husband to hang onto, so I decided I would rather be in the bed. I dried off and got back in bed. I told them I thought I wanted the epidural now, since the pain was bad and I didn't think I could do another hour of non-stop contractions. They called for the epidural, a little after 5:00 she checked me again and said that I was at 10cm and needed to push. The epidural wasn't going to happen. The Dr. came in a few minutes later and I pushed for about 10 minutes. Adam was born at 5:24. I had a 2nd degree tear, so she gave me a local and stitched me up.
Adam didn't nurse much the first 24 hours, but after that he started nursing great! He nursed about every hour the 2nd night. They said he was high risk for jaundice because of his/my blood type, so it was important to get him to nurse a lot. They were concerned about his voice. He doesn't have a strong cry. He squeeks and coughs when he tries to cry. The Ped. said it could be a soft spot on his vocal cords. I'm wondering if they did something when they stuck the tube down his throat after birth. They suctioned his lungs twice right after he was born. The only other thing was his right ear did not pass the hearing test, so he will have to be retested. Other than that he is a very healthy, happy nursing baby and we are having lots of fun getting situated with him here at home now. His big brother likes to hold him. I wish everyone a fast birth!!! I actually got what I was hoping for with this one!!
Update.....we've seen a specialist and ruled out vocal cord problems. Only other thing I can think of is asthma.
