View Full Version : I'm pretty sure baby is breech

I'm also 35 weeks. This just stinks! Dd1 was breech and I knew it then, too. My OB didn't believe me but I insisted she was and they finally did an U/S to confirm. I had her turned and ended up with a vaginal delivery a couple weeks later. My OB said he would not turn this baby and he'd be surprised if anybody nearby would. I'm fine with that, but if he doesn't turn on his own I'll end up with a C/S. I'm scared to death of a C/S, so tell me how to get this baby to turn. I'm not too keen on the idea of putting ice on my belly, that just seems mean to me. I have chronic hip pain, and I often sleep on my right side because it hurts too much to sleep on my left. Is that why he's breech? Ugh, this sucks.

I'm 40w3d and just found out my girl is breech again (she already turned once, then flipped back last week apparently). Why won't your ob attempt a version or refer you to someone who will? Are there complicating factors?
Here are the things I did to get dd#2 to turn the first time:
* Webster technique (chiropractic - they can probably help with the hip pain, too ... they did mine!)
* acupuncture/moxabustion
* playing music through headphones placed at the bottom of my fundus
* propping my butt up in the air while laying on my back
* pulsatilla (in conjuction with everything else)
Best to you. I'm in the same position -- if this babe doesn't turn I'm facing either a breech uc or an automatic c/s. :irked:

no complicating factors, he just doesn't do them. He was honestly shocked when I told him I had a version with dd1. I would like to see a chiro, maybe I'll schedule an appt tomorrow. So, can you prop up your bottom and lay on your back without getting sick? I don't think I could :lol

Could you go to another doctor for a EV?

My little boy is breech, I'm only 31 weeks, but he's been this way since I've been able to feel his head/feet - he really really likes how he's positioned, and doesn't move from that spot. Some babies just know what they like. They want to hear their Mom's voice/heartbeat, and who in the world would WANT to spend their days upside down anyway? :dizzy:
Interestingly, my DD was in the same position until week 39.
What worked, when EVERYTHING ELSE DIDN'T (I mean everything - moxi, elephant walking, shoulderstands, music, lights, ice, talking, visualizing, and 2 ECV attempts), was seeing a chiropractor.
That night my DD turned & my C section was cancelled. :)
I'm going for my first chiro appt this week... starting early this time! ;)

:lol It wasn't easy, I promise you that! DH had to help me into the position and basically brace me there. So fun. :dizzy: It was really uncomfortable, but I imagine less so than a c/s, so I sucked it up and did it anyway.

Okay, I'm in the same boat but I may have some help for you. I went to the chiro last night and he did a few things with my back and also the ligaments in the left side of my uterus-- he said that baby should move in a few days, if not we would repeat the process a few more times. Also go to www.spinningbabies.com they have some excercises you can do. I was told by my midwife to try putting my feet on the top stair on the staircase and my knees about 2 stairs down and my hands about 1-2 stairs down from that. It sounds like a acrobatic accomplishment but if it works and saves you a c-sec so be it. The midwife told me to do the stair thing like 2-3 times a day for like 3-5 minutes until she turns. Hope that helps, Good Luck:wink

I also wanted to mention going to a chiropractor. I would call every chiropractor in town until I found one that could do it. I went to one yesterday and it was wonderful. Best nights sleep I've gotten in a long time.
I've heard there's a chinese herbal therapy that helps to turn the baby. I'm trying to find more info on it, but it's administered by an accupuncturist and it involves burning a stick of mugwort under your toe. I know it sounds weird, but I've heard it's very reliable and it doesn't seem invasive to me at all. I have been googling it and it seems like it's called moxibustion.
Luckily my DS is in position, but if he wasn't I would absolutely try this moxibustion even before letting the doctor try to turn him to avoid a c section.
Maybe someone else here knows a little more about this Chinese herb therapy and can help out.

Another plug for acupuncture.
My acupuncturist tells me she has successfully turned breech babies. Another option if chiropractic doesn't help.
Good luck!

Good luck with your turning - as a mom who has had 2 emergency c-sections, I don't recommend them! I hope you can have the vaginal birth you want!

I just had my 2nd acupuncture/moxabustion treatment today. She turned after the 1st one (about 3 weeks ago) but turned back last week. Between the chiro (Webster technique) and the acupuncturist (moxa) I'm hoping that all the movement I've been feeling the last 2 days means she flipped back. My ob agreed to check the baby's position in the office tomorrow AM before I go through all the headache of checking into the hospital for my version attempt. Hopefully all will go well.
Oh. The acupuncture points for turning a breech are Bladder 67 -- on the outside of your pinky toes. The acupuncturist places the needles, then uses a lit stick of mugwort (like a really thick stick of incense) to apply heat to the same area. He holds it near the acupressure point on one foot until the heat is uncomfortable to you, then switches to the other foot. He switches back & forth for about 10 minutes. Then you're done!
Oh, I forgot to mention -- I picked up some homeopathic pulsatilla 30c at my local hfs and have been taking 3-5 under the tongue 30 minutes to an hour before each appointment.
