I think so. I did last pregnancy and my OB was ok with it. I just didn't have x-rays and I waited for a filling until after giving birth.

My husband just visited the dentist and while there asked about me. My dentist (who's great: no mercury, "holistic") advised that I wait a few months to come in for a cleaning. I think the logic was that at this point in our pregnancies, you really don't want to potentially introduce any kind of infection and that in a few months, baby/pregnancy would be more resilient.
Our dentist also said that when I do come in, to make sure I tell the hygienist that we're expecting so she just do a "gentle cleaning" and go easy on my gums.
Good luck! I'm overdue for a cleaning and can't wait!

I'm 7 weeks and went in for a cleaning a couple days ago....every thing I read says it's fine...all he really does for a cleaning is scrap off stuff and use a polish that you don't swallow...I did in my other pregnancy too.

dental hygienist here. should be fine if you are having just a normal adult cleaning. any treatment needed should wait until after the baby is born or if it can't wait until the 3rd trimester. some people say 2nd trimester is fine, but i personally wouldn't.

My dentist actually encourages more frequent visits for cleaning while pregnant. I go every 3 months. Because of the extra blood flow during pregnancy your gums are more sensitive and gingivitis is more common so good dental hygiene is important right now. Mind you we don't do anything but cleaning, no xrays or anything. HTH.

I had mine cleaned when I was about 6 weeks along. I just told the hygenist that I was pregnant and that my gums were a little sensitive so to be nice to me. *laugh*

I had to have a root canal with my first pregnancy-believe me it couldn't wait until after she was born. My dentist did everything after talking with my OB and they both said even that was fine during end of my second trimester. I don't plan on repeating this again, so I'm thinking of doing the every three month cleaning thing myself.

I had an appt to get a cleaning at 5 weeks and I called my OB to ask if it was okay. They said to wait until the 2nd trimester as bacteria from the cleaning can get into your system. I told the dentist this and they said that yet it could. I rescheduled for way into my 2nd trimester!

If you find a nice holistic dentist, they should be able to take care of you while pregnant:)
