Midwife or OB appointments?

Has anyone *not* seen their care provider yet or not even set up an appointment yet?

I have to decide on a new provider, and I'm still stuck with the picking up the phone and calling around part. :duck: Granted, I am probably only about 5 weeks, so I have time, but in reading, it seems like I might be "falling behind" a bit.

I have been in twice to "see the doc" and each time it was just paperwork!
I haven't even peed in a cup yet!
They just took my word for it from the HPT and gave me a form saying I was pregnant. Crazy huh?
I switched providers (yay!) and I will see the new doc on May 7th (I'll be 10ish weeks then, I think) Becuz of the switch the nurse told me I will have to redo all my labwork (my records don't transfer) but I haven't even done any labs yet! LOL
I'm not worried at all if that was the question. I just think it's funny.

I would call though if I were you because they might not have a slot opened right away for you and it could take up to a month to get an appt. and if that's the doc you want then you should try to at least get an appt to confirm your spot kind of thing.

I went in super early. Apparently 8 weeks is when prenatal care starts-so you have time.

I've already been in 4 times! I had two miscarriages before this and am now a nervous ninny. With my #3 I didn't go in until I was 24 weeks pregnant (long story including a move). I know that in my midwife's office there are signs posted all over the place that if you are with such and such insurance that you have to come in pretty early or your insurance will be much more expensive. I had never seen that before. Glad it wasn't mine with #3!

I'm still trying to decide who to see... I feel really lucky that I'm chosing between two really great options -- homebirth midwives, or very crunchy birth center -- but it makes chosing much, much harder. :)

I had my first interview with a midwife yesterday. But it was just one of those "figuring out if she 'meshes' with us" interviews. Nothing clinical yet. With my DS, I didn't see a midwife till I was 19 weeks along - mostly because I'm lazy. :lol

My first real appointment will be at about 9 weeks, but I do go in for blood draws because I need to have my progesterone checked because it was low in my first pregnancy and I had to supplement.

I have not seen a provider and I don't plan to start interviewing midwives (I only have 2 choices) until after 8 weeks. There's nothing to be done, anyway!

Unless you have a history of pregnancy problems & feel you need care early on, there really isn't anything to be done until 8-12 weeks I guess. During my last pg I made my 1st midwife appt very early on, but she wouldn't even see me until I was at least 9 weeks. She told me that unfortunately, miscarriages are so common & there really isn't anything to be done those first several weeks of pregnancy, that it's best to just wait out the 1st trimester before starting up "care".

That being said, I'm anxious anyway to meet some midwives because we've moved to a new state since my last pregnancy & I have no idea what my birth options are here! I haven't even picked up the phone to call our insurance yet though.... :p But I'm barely 5 weeks.

same here, going to wait, I am about 6 weeks and I am looking for a midwife, everyone said it right when there is nothing really to do right now but sleep and take care of yourself and allow the baby to grow. I plan to go in about 8 weeks.

I haven't seen anyone yet, either. I do plan to have an early u/s at around 8 weeks (I'm 6 wks today), b/c my last pg ended in m/c back in February so I want to make sure everything is ok with this one (baby died at 7 wks last time so I want to wait until after that point at least to have the u/s). Once I'm "in the clear" with that u/s I will make a mw appointment. I interviewed several hb midwives last time around, had one final interview to do which I cancelled when I found out I had miscarried. So I plan to reschedule the interview with them (it's 2 midwives who practice together) then make a final decision and go ahead with care starting at around 12 wks.

So I guess since I'm having an u/s at 8 wks my "care" will start then, though I won't meet with a care provider until 12 wks.

Well, I broke down and made an appointment today, but it's not for another 2 weeks, and it's only for a consultation, not a real "appointment". I'm SO impatient that I have to wait so long, but I'll get over it. Hopefully. :D

My first appointment will put me around 10 weeks - they're doing an U/S and a visit that day.

Last time around, I had U/S and testing at 5 and 6 weeks because I had just started my meds for a second IVF cycle and no-one told me not to DTD :D So I was doing Lupron shots and waiting for my period and finally the fertility doc is like "let's do an u/s" :rolleyes

I haven't been to see anyone yet either. No need for a dr visit and my midwife doesn't see me until 12 weeks. Mind you I called the day after I got my BFP to make sure I had a spot with a midwife as there's a joke around here that you should call for your mw appt even before you tell your husband! :wink

My first appointment is after we're 12 weeks along, the first week of June. but with my first pregnancy I went in at 8 weeks. I was much more impatient then to meet with someone about pregnancy. This time it is much easier to wait it out.

Looks like my first appointment is going to be next week, at somewhere around 5 weeks. It's early, but my major goal in life right now is not to be puking at graduation on May 18th, so we wanted to talk about morning sickness and pregnancy anxiety early. :)
