Now that all three of our kiddos can stay overnight with grandparents, dh and I are totally into live music. We've been to two GREAT shows in the last week.

Last Friday we attended the first day of the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Scottsdale, AZ. The bands were Tea Leaf Green (LOVE!), Grace Potter and the Nocturnals (Vermont band, SHE is amazing! Her voice is huge and bluesy), The Neville Brothers (Didn't realize how much we'd enjoy them), and Bob Weir and Ratdog (Lots of Grateful Dead stuff, great!). We danced almost the whole time, drank $2 beers, etc. Best day we've had together in a long, long time! Realized we need to concerts/festivals a part of our lives whenever possible!

Thursday night--Yonder Mountain String Band. One of our favorite bands. Check them out at www.yondermountain.com. Awesome "Newgrass" music--bluegrass/traditional that rocks without drums. Extremely danceable, addictive music if you like bluegrass even a little bit. We've been wanting to see them live for years and it never worked out until now. GREAT show--they played a ton of old stuff that they haven't played much recently. Danced my a#@ off! We're going to try to see them in Red Rocks in Sept.

Anyone doing any festivals this summer? We can't until next year (getting a puppy, need to focus on him for a few months). If money/time/etc, we're no object we'd be at Telluride, Bonnaroo, String Summit, Sierra, and more! We'll probably start taking the kids to stuff like this in a couple of years.

Oh, and I'm getting a MANDOLIN and I'm stoked! Watching Yonder Mountain's Jeff Austen totally inspired me. He is a rock star on the mandolin. It's supposed to be fairly easy to learn, and dh plays guitar so we can play together.

did you stick around for xtra ticket (dead cover band) after ratdog last weekend? the keyboardist teaches at p.h.s. w/ my dh - they're playing next saturday night at coyote joe's. they're lots of fun!

Not too many artists venture to my little remote town in SE AK, but we were very fortunate to see Be Good Tanyas a couple years ago.

Also, Garrison Keillor put on a nice show with his pianist as a fundraiser for our public radio station last summer. He was on a cruise ship up here and made several stops.

I'm looking forward to moving next summer. I miss going to concerts.

We left during the last song before the encore to avoid the traffic insanity. Xtra Ticket sounds cool! We'll have to check them out.

I so wish I could go to Bonnaroo, i don't think i can swing it though. :(

where in ak? juneau? we lived up there (palmer) for 4 years and besides family - good, live music was the thing i missed most. photonz are a ton of fun up there but i don't know how much they play these days. shanti groove came up to anch one summer, that was fun...but yeah, there's not a lot of live music up there.

I used to work with both Jeff and Dave (From YMSB) at a health food store in college. Barely knew Jeff b/c he left pretty much as soon as I started, but Dave is pretty awesome. He's hilarious. Back then they had a band called The Blue Grassholes.

DH and I love to see live music - we're lucky enough to live where we get a lot of it too!

Let's see... So far this year we've seen Michael Franti, Galactic, and Medeski Martin and Wood. We're going to LEAF festival on Mother's day, and there will be lots of music there.

Wolfmother played here last night - but we didn't make that show. Kind of bummed, but in all honestly, living here one needs to really pick and choose what you want to see the most music wise, or you'd go broke. :lol

ah yes, pretty isolated down there! some friends of mine spent summers in skagway - i think gangly moose would go down there and haines a few times a year - but that's still quite the drive for you... the be good tanyas are fabulous!

We take DS to all the concerts we see. Next month we'll be seeing Rufus Wainwright and every year we get passes to the 10 day blues fest in July http://ottawa-bluesfest.ca/en/. It's always a blast.

Yes, we were very lucky that they came here. I guess they had some connection...knew someone here...had vacationed here...something like that.

we're taking the little one on our annual Elvis Costello at Wolf Trap adventure, and will probably also go see their annual Louisiana Swamp Romp with a bunch of artists from "my country".

DH is going to all the Police shows he can get to, but I can't bring DS, so I'm out, which REALLY burns me up since I was 4 the last time the Police toured.

I'll definitely be catching some Tori shows when the US dates are announced, as well. At least the DC and Baltimore shows - and the Baltimore venue would be perfect for DS.

The only artist that has been announced for our local concert series so far is Eddie Money. :lol The rest are TBA right now. They like messing with us apparently!

On the county fair circuit we have Josh Gracin, Phil Vassar, Grupo Antifaz, Nitty Gritty Dirtband, Grand Funk Railroad, Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts, Pepe and the Bottle Blondes. The state fair isn't announcing it's music just yet.

We won't get to see all of those, but we'll definitely see a few of them. Love outdoor concert season!

Saw Josh Ritter at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA back in January... will do the local circuit of summer fairs with live music this season, but no big names.

I saw Wolfmother play at Lallapallooza last year and they ROCKED! I would love to see them again. DH went to bonaroo last summer and I went to lalla to test the waters and see where the best place to go (this year) and bring kids...unfortunately, we can't afford it this summer. Bummer. I don't hear enough live music.

There are sooooo many shows I want to go to, but right now the only thing I have tickets and plans for is the Sasquatch Festival (http://www.sasquatchfestival.com/) at the Gorge here in WA state. We're just going on the first day to see Bjork. :love I'm very excited. We went to Sasquatch last year too to see NIN and Bauhaus. Mmm.

I LOVE going to concerts and shows, but it's sooo hard with dd, and finding someone to watch her. UB40 is playing here in the summer at a big park, I'm thinking that it might be something that we could actually take her to and all have a good time.

Also saw a favorite band Down The Line in March also.
Money has been tight so we have been just sticking with smaller shows.

I rarely go to a live concert and when I do it's usually a musicals concert but I'm going to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in August and I really want to see Meatloaf and UB40 to.

DH bought me Morrissey tickets for Mother's Day. :loveeyes:

Ween!!! Hehe, I saw them once at Bumbershoot (festival here in Seattle). Ween cracks me up to no end. They're awesome. :thumb I didn't know they were touring... I'm going to have to go check out to see if they're coming here too!

As for me, recently I have seen Modest Mouse. Tomorrow I will go see Petere Bjorn and John. Soon Amy Winehouse. This summer Lollapalooza! I'll basically be there for Modest Mouse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wolfmother, Sleater Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie, Broken social Scene and Regina Spektor...

You don't know how stressful it is for me to look at the schedule and figure out who I want to see when...too many choices!

I just saw Placebo (again - w00t!) and dh and I and maybe the kids might see The Decemberists and Menomena this summer... and Placebo is supposed to come back around a third time this summer... (not obsessed I swear). and maybe Rodgrigo y Gabriela too. I really wish I could see Death Cab for Cutie. and Morrissey! Wow!
