Okay, all you PDX moms, I need your help.

We're moving to Hillsboro in June and I'm 7 weeks pregnant. I would love a homebirth, but we'll most likely be living with my parents when the baby comes and I'm not sure they would appreciate that. On top of that, I'm pretty sure I'd totally stress out while laboring at their house.

My last birth was much faster than I had anticipated and I was only in the hospital an hour and a half before she was born. I'm nervous that if I choose to go someplace like the Andaluz Waterbirth Center in Tualitin, or anywhere in Portland, that I'll end up with a baby in the car... whether or not we hit traffic.

So, does anyone know of any free-standing birthing center or something similar a bit closer to Hillsboro? Even farther towards Forest Grove and Banks would be better than getting too close to Portland. The three birth centers I know of are way too far East or South for me to even consider.

TIA!!

Emily

I don't know of any other birth centers on the west side. I understand your fear, I sure wouldn't want to give birth in a car!!!....but I think even during bad traffic you could get to Tualatin within an hour on main roads. My husband used to live in that area, and he said he'd take back roads between Hillsboro and Tualatin. He said it would take 30 mins at most on back roads probably any time of day. If you drove it a few times so you are familiar with all the turns, that might work too.....

Hope that helps! Goodluck!

YEP! I'm trying to get all the feedback I possibly can. :)

We really should try out the back roads once we move. I just remember one year there was a freak snowstorm near the end of November... it took my mom and me 2 1/2 hours to get from Hillsboro to the Washington Square Mall (On the freeways of course, Sunset & 217). I also know that with my luck this baby will come Christmas Eve, during the height of shopping traffic, in a blizzard. :lol My first came on Memorial Day, my second came the night before my sister's wedding. My children always come on *their* birthdays... which always happens to be at the most inconvenient time. :wink

I would much rather have a midwife in the car when my baby is born than be in the car myself. :)

There isn't and it thoroughly stinks. I really wanted to do to a waterbirth, but dh wasn't up for driving to OHSU (were in Forest Grove) at the middle or end of December. Then I wanted Andaluz and same the drive anywhere just stinks. So I'm stuck at Tuality in Hillsboro. I'll just be spending my time in the tub as long as I can. :lol
