Hi,
My husband and two children will be coming to the Netherlands in June and we are hoping to give the girls, ages 2 and 4, some opportunities to interact with other children and to speak Dutch exclusively.

They will spend much of their time in Den Haage and also in Wormond (I hope I spelled that correctly). If anyone has suggestions for activities or places our children could go to get some good Dutch language experience, I would love to hear them. My husband speaks only Dutch to them since they were born (he was born in The Netherlands and emigrated to the US in 1997), so they can speak the language but there are no children here who speak Dutch with them. His brothers live there and will be spending a lot of time but their kids are teenagers.

Hi!

I don't know if your kids watch television, but if they do, it's always a good idea to let them see some of the programs on channel 3. In the morning between 7 and 9, there are great shows for kids their age, all Dutch, they're really well made and there are no commercials between or during the programs. It also has the Dutch Sesame Street, at I think 7:30.
And maybe a trip to Europe's largest playground is a good idea? There are lots and lots of children there to interact with. You can find more about it here: http://www.linnaeushof.nl/index2.html It's not very far from Warmond.
Hope this helps somewhat!

Hi! I don't know of any special language-boosting opportunities (when I was living in Den Haag I had no children yet) but I'd recommend some outdoor activities. The Westbroek Park is lovely to go to with little kids, Madurodam (miniature city) would probably be nice (your DH may have been to Madurodam when he was little himself) and if they want to go to the beach, try Kijkduin. Bus 24 from Centraal Station will take you there, and it's less crowded and much more quiet than Scheveningen. Beware of the pancake restaurant over there, though! Their pancakes are the worst I've seen in my whole life! :gross

We're living close to The Hague (10 km) and I have a nice friend in Warmond, she has a boy (4 years old) and a baby. Please send me an email if you want to know more!
