Are you in the Twin Cities?

Well, then you have found your tribe! Despite our diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and interests, two things bond us together: living in the coldest state on earth...and the love for our children which warms us. The weekly tribe thread begins anew each saturday. Watch for the new thread on the main Minnesota/Wisconsin board.

Some of the individuals who post here meet weekly. If you are interested in attending a get together, please post your interest on the thread or send any one of us a pm. We welcome with open arms and minds the input of all parents, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, political view, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, etc.

Hello all...

Am I really the first one here this week? Woah! That sure hasn't happened in a long time!!

Well, I am at work now, and it is getting busy. I will reply more later!

Love to you all!!!

I also just wanted to ask if any of you had any suggestions or any coupons for any of the rental moving truck companies. It looks like we will be going with either Budget or U-Haul.

Thanks bunches!!!

hey all. nice to see a few folks at sg today. we were only there for a little while since we had errands to run and i had to get my haircut. its short! woo hoo! hope the garage sale-ing is going well.

curvie - we rented a uhaul for our move from our bachelor and bachlorette pads to our living in sin pad. it was fine. i'll keep my eye out for coupons for ya!

Hugs to you Doula. I second Jess' and Sue's advice, but being the cynic I am I'd say go get a restraining order as well...

Jess -- hugs to you. I had one of those once, after one unusual pap. It really wasn't so bad -- pain wise or even the procedure. Remember doc's are quick to check this kind of stuff out, so be happy they are concerned! Let me know how I can help. Oh bad part, no fun stuff for six weeks after the procedure -- just like after giving birth!

Autumn -- hope you are feeling better woof woof hugs to you.

Moon - don't know you, but if I needed a nanny I'd hire you in a sec. I think your friend is going to have hellions as teenagers and you will have son who communicates and respects others even if he is rebellious. Count your blessings you are doing a fine job. Also remember, you need to protect the physical and emotional health of your son-- maybe you can tell your friend that and maybe nannying her child might not be the best thing. I bet if you advertise your AP approach to nannying you'd find a million moms and kids swarming to you.

Garage Sale Hotties -- good to see you all

The new little boy -- sorry I will post name/photo on tribe site today -- I PROMISE!!!!

Whew, what a day!

Poor Gracie got soooo overstimulated with the day's activities. Note to self: don't do the farmer's market, a doula function, and SG all in the same day until G is much, much older. Way too much excitement for her, & me too. Skipping our friends' open house for their son's first b-day because nobody has enough energy to go now.

Hi, DoulaSarah, that was me with the unhappy baby this morning. Sorry I didn't get to chat with you.

SaraMama's babe is so beautiful. He was sound asleep when I saw him yesterday. His feet are so tiny! Makes me wonder if my daughter just has giant feet. Coming from me & DH, that's not unlikely. I even pulled out her stuff from the hospital to see if her feet had been so small. Nope. Well, she'll probably never need snowshoes! :bgbounce

That's about it from me. I'm hot, I have a headache, & I have orange hands. The third thing isn't related to the other two, just annoying (remember to wear gloves the next time you do henna, Jess. DUH!). I should go hang out in the basement for a bit to cool off. Look out, buggies... I'm coming down there. (EEEW!)

DoulaSarah

JessieKate!!! I didn't know that you were a doula, did I??? I can't remember! Your babe is an absolute dollbaby. Beautiful! wow. I hope that you got something from the meeting, even though she was a little fussy.

jess - I want to come with you, please let me know what I can do. Need someone for Blue and Fish?

Mamar- You go girl looking all cute with that short hair and those cute clothes!

Well, thank you everyone for the advice. I didn't respond and she hasn't written back, although I did find the live journal that she posts everyday on. Yeah...what is there to post about when you are a loser? Hmmm...I didn't read much of it though, I don't to be tainted. Thank you though everyone for the support. I really needed it.

No, I'm not a doula. Yet. It's in my plans for the future, though. My aunt was the lactation consultant from Winona there to talk about breastfeeding. I was actually hoping that my doula would be there, but I think she may be very close to having her baby if she hasn't already (I don't remember when she was due). I should really give her a call or send a note.

Interesting thought for the day: can eating Indian food increase your milk supply? We ate at India Palace (in Roseville) last Friday. Come Monday, I was leaking like crazy, spraying G if she popped off while nursing, etc. This is unusual for me, to say the least. It took until today to make the connection, because she hadn't been nursing any more or less than usual, I hadn't had anything else different in my diet. Then, mentioned it in a conversation with my aunt, and she asked if I'd eaten Indian food recently. :idea Think about it: fenugreek in large quantities. Several other spices in Indian food are known galactogogues. So if you know someone who's feeling like she's having supply problems, suggest a meal of Indian food. And we're going for lunch with the ILs tomorrow. Maybe I should work on my frozen milk stash with these gushers. :LOL Besides the milk-increasing properties, I recommend India Palace on the quality of their food. The Biryani dishes are fabulous! Oh, and there's a lunch buffet every day so you can try a little of several different things.

Mmm... Biryani.

ETA: My pet peeve for the day: the farking city buses driving down our street. Hello - part of the reason I love living here so much is because this is NOT a bus route. University is so backed up with people cruising that they have to route the buses through a residential area. *&@#*&^*&@#!!!!!!!! Last night they were going through well past midnight. We can't have the bedroom window open because of the noise, and that is something that makes me very angry.

Can you tell that this is making me irate? I just want to call up Metro Transit and swear at them.

happy soverday and blessed solstice!!!~

jessi...that is interesting about the indian food. i'll pass on the info to my nursing buds here.

doula...stay off her journal. just don't give her a moment of your time in any form. you'll be happier and more at peace.

sara...thank you for the sweet words. how have you been feeling?

supi...how short is the new do?

daam...i am down ONE PANT SIZE!!!! which makes me the size i was when last you saw me. i'm very proud of myself. it is getting easier to keep eating healthy and do my yoga nightly. yay!

very productive day

DH did a lot of work on the ceiling for our living room and Charlie and I made thai peanut sauce and did a great tofu veggie stirfry for dinner followed by rhubarb crisp with no sugar just maple syrup and applesauce to bring to nygel's party for you Katie!!! you are so good on the no sugar thing, even though I did 7 years no sugar, that was many pounds ago

moongloe, shaved legs and down a size guess you will look mighty fine for the mama day gathering.

gotta tell you all, i was greeted by the senior lady next door Monday as I was going into the house to make Charlie lunch. And she started chatting with me about the heat and I said, "yeah some of my friends are at a park but being pregnant, I can't do it and she said, "you are pregnant? I thought you were just overweight." Nice huh?

jessikate funny fenugreek story, makes sense though

Been having fun trading hemp rompers and such with all these mamas on amity who are making the new baby cloth diapers. so fun!

excited to pick up the first week for our csa tomorrow. have a great week all.

Hi all.....

I am just really *HAPPY* this morning, and I don't know why, but it is great!

:-wool

JessiKate - we should talk about doula training sometime! :)

MamaSara - oh he is such a sweet new boy!!!!

Mamarsupial - I WANNA SEE YOUR HAIR!!!! :)

Moon- besides being a babe, you are a great mom. I would hardly call you a hard-*ss. Check out Dr. Sears's Website (http://www.askdrsears.com) and look under the discipline section, I think it has great ideas. I really appreciated the section that talks about saying no....he says that saying no to your child at the appropriate times is absolutely necessary to their development, otherwise they will not know when to say know to themselves later in life. He also gives some good alternatives and strategies for doing so. I loved it, and can't wait to read some more!

DoulaSara - it is hard, but I would try to not give her another thought or more of your precious time.

kaje - productive days! yea!

DAAM - I am super excited because hugosmoma gave me the name of the truck co that they used to move. Their truck is bigger and it is over HALF of the price of Uhaul and Budget! Woo hoo!

Hey mommas.:) Just got back from the movies with the kids ( a treat from my brother and sil); they have been asking to see "Finding Nemo" for weeks now. It was actually very cute, but had some kinda scary sharks in it for Nygel. I have been the opposite of you, Littlecurvie: feeling pretty down. I just found out that one of my brothers and my sil are moving to North Carolina with their three kids. I am especially bummed as my kids have always been so close with their cousins. They already have their house for sale and the kids are already enrolled in a private school out there that starts in mid-August. So now that my one brother finally moves back close to home, another is leaving.:(

On a lighter note, Alec and Imala started soccer and they both *love* it. They are looking for more kids to join, so anybody with a soccer lover 4-8 years, come on and join us!:thumb

KJ~ Nummy, nummy! Thanks in advance!:love :yum

Mamar~ I got my hair cut, too!:D

Moon~ That is great! Yay for you!:Kiss I have been off of my yoga lately, and doing lots of aerobics and weight training. I always need to switch back and forth to keep things interesting.

Jessikate~ Indian food! Num! Sonny brought me some the night after Nygel was born that was *so good*! Maybe it helped my milk supply, too!:wink

Saramama~ Little I. is just beautiful!

Snow~ So did you enroll M. in the lessons? Am very curious. WE want to do the second session. If you enroll M., maybe I will do the same for Imala...?

Guess I need to go and pay some attention to these doggies...Lobo is nearly climbing up onto my lap and he isn't so little anymore!

Almost forgot! I posted a poll on the other site for Nygel and Blue's party this Thursday. If you all could r.s.v.p. there that would be great!

Hi All..... Happy Sunday!

I FINALLY made it out to my garden today. Whew!!!!My weeds had weeds and now my blisters have blisters. ouch. but I got about a third(:( )done. There's only so much garden weaseling a girl can take. And if I hear anyone mention the'soft earth' I'll scream. Loudly. My earth happens to make concrete look soft and fluffy. I'll be getting some gloves and other gardening stuff tomorrow.

Anyone know of a good all natural bug repellant? I hate putting stuff with DEET on Skye & myself. And I won't put it on W. But we have skeeters the size of hummingbirds! Thanks to the swampy land behind us and the bird preserve across the street.
Need something so I can go out to the backyard even when the wind isn't gusty.

Need a shower badly, must go

hi mamasitas~

curvie...thanks for the advice and for calling me a babe!! i am all giddy now. i don't think anyone has called me that before. i like it. you get an extra hug at the gathering. congrats on the truck btw.

will...avon makes a deet-free product. i'd talk to snow about it though. i recall last summer she had some advice as to why deet was a good thing.

kd...i'm sorry your family is moving away!! how sad for you and all the kids. i have to have variety too, but i just use a few different yoga tapes. you're smart to do weights, it's important. i don't have the energy for that yet. you got a new hairdo?

the movie 'amistad' was on tv last night. what an amazing movie! i must see it again (without commercials and editing.) some of it confused me though, so i need to head to the library. anyone else see it?

hey all!
happy (belated) solstice indeed!!

katie--soccer where? DS enjoys playing and is pretty good (in my humble opinion...)

yoga...need to make time in the schedule for that again!!

we use avon skin-so-soft, with the added sunblock. seems to work. but then DH has a kick arse product at the hardware store, but it has a lot of DEET! our nurse at school said not to use any product that has over 10% deet in it.

have both seen and read Amistad. can't remember which happened first, but both were great.

another quiet sunday eve here. DH and BIL out at their soccer game. kids asleep by 7 (napless day, after busy yesterday!).

went to stillwater for the 50th anniversary party. fun stuff!

weeded the garden today. it is quite grassy. WAS quite grassy...

ok, off to check tix to NY (college roomie is remarrying in Sept. would LOVE to go...) and then shower and then bed.

DAAM--(ok, so even though over half of this post has been AAM, here it is officially) started Harry Potter #5 today, as it was delvered yesterday. yes, i am a geek. and i know there are others of you out there!

love ya all!

Hey all,

Since we are on the topic, who is coming thursday night? If you have not rsvp'd to the 'Nygel and Blue are two' gathering, let kdmw or I know if you are coming. I wanna know how many kiddie things to prep fer sure... :)

Thanks all for the well wishes...my abnormal vaggie...quoting you Moon! :p I go in on monday the 30th. The appt. is so booked out because I don't want any men doin' anything with my abnormal vaggie unless it's a loved man in my bed, kwim? Women's biz as far as I'm concerned...they naturally have fuller schedules. I'm a bit impatient though...wish I didn't have to sit and wonder.

Doulasara I have a doula and kid care, but would gladly take a doula on each side...how spoiled would I be...

Sara mama and any others...does the bleeding last for six weeks?? How long does one bleed? Did you have just the colposcopy or the biopsy too? I need to be prepared here... but if you mean 'no fun stuff' as in "hanky panky"...well... ain't none of that goin' round. Too bad because the libido is creeping back. :crap
ps. I saw the photos...*gasp* gorgeous babe there!

Hey, let's hear it for all the haircuts and weight loss! If I cut my hair will my butt shrink?? My old friend Debra says if you lose track of your pubic hair when you sit on the toilet, it's time for a diet. I don't believe in diets, but I have to 'lift the flap' to see mine...sooo...yoga for me too? LOL oops...tmi.

daam. yep....more daam. I spent the day with my awesome friend Monique that I have adopted as my mother (shhhh...have not told her yet). She enjoys my boys and they adore her...and her dd an dh. She cooks amazing and healthful Indian cuisine. yum yum yum... She's french, but very into ayurveda and eager to loan me her books and catalogs. Very opposite my family of origin, this woman validates me as a human being every time I speak, even when she is correcting me and giving advice...I adore her! It was such a treat of a day for my family.

I hear hugosmomma down there...a big boom actually...up to her usual late night cleaning and organizing rampages I gather...knocking sh*^ over in the process. LOL I was looking out my dining room windows that I need curtains for earlier...I'm half naked here typing wondering if I should robe up or hurry and get some curtains...but then I thought, "heck, I don't need no curtains...it'll be just littlecurvie and her clan in a month or so...". Just so ya know, Curvie, clothing optional sometimes here in the dining room at night. :wink

Well, off to the air conditioned room in the house with a big glass o H2O. When did this become a monster post...:blah

Hey mama's!! Someone has to come and play with us over here today!! We are just sitting around watching The Jungle Book 2 for the 145th time and the kiddos are bounding off the walls! I would love to have lunch with someone, I'll do the cooking, OR we could get a bunch of mama's cooking little fun things? Am I just wishful thinking? Does everyone have plans but me on this rainy day? I am going to send out an e-mail to those of you I have e-mails for to beg you to come over and play! I'll make coffee? I'll give you a dollar.....

hey all. well, my old man cough is bronchitis, with maybe a touch of atypical pneumonia...which is what i had last winter. fun for me! start antibiotics today. got 3 opinions on what i could be taking that would be safe. ugh. still don't feel comfortable taking anything at all while pregnant, but i also don't want to end up with a double lung and sinus infection like i had last winter when i waited 6 weeks to take something. my mom may or may not be coming down to help out now...who knows. my dad, who is an md, says "REST"...like i have some magic fairy i can pull out of my nose who can watch e, clean the house, and make me home made chicken noodle soup. god bless dh who is taking the day off to help with e.

and i have the new harry potter...so i'll be curled up in bed with that as long as i'm allowed.

oh, and I'M STILL CAMPING, DARNIT!

ps. for inquiring minds, my hair isn't THAT short...a shorter bob than i normally have. it was already getting down to my shoulders and was hot hot hot with the humidity, so something had to change.

moon - DEET is awesome for bugs, BUT...its the only pesticide approved for use on the skin. it doesn't just repel, it actually kills the ticks and mosquitos that land on you. since we've done a ton of camping with ella, here's what i've come up with that works. on our skin, we use skin so soft and/or natrapel, which are deet free. if the bugs are REALLY bad, i'll mist our ankles and the backs of our necks with skintastic or family off! (which have some deet, but only a small amount). WE ALSO KEEP AS COVERED UP AS POSSIBLE - light long sleeve shirts, light long pants, socks, etc. i'll use 3m ultrathon on our clothes (also has deet, slightly more than skintastic, but still much less than off or jungle juice which are often 99% deet). if ella gets a ton of bites, more than 10 or 12, i give her one child's dose of benedryl to cut the histimine reaction down. this really works well, and benedryl is very benign compared to deet. her bites stay small and heal in a day or less, versus a few days. you can also get topical benedryl. over the years, i have tried everything....citronella, oils, not bathing. i don't stress over a few bites, or even the occational tick, but lots of bites can be an issue.

Rental trucks--we used Budget when we moved last fall and I'd definitely recommend them over U-Haul. Almost everyone I've talked to about moving has a U-Haul horror story. They don't seem to have the right truck at the right time EVER. I think Budget and U-Haul cost the same, but Budget's trucks are newer, better, and they'll be there when you request them. If there's some other better cheaper company out there, by all means, use them and tell me how it goes!

I wanted to go to SG this weekend, but I forgot that it would be the busiest weekend ever, so SG got squished out. There were 15 college friends in town (I went to school in CA, so this was a big deal--most of them hadn't been to MN before) for a friend's wedding. It was great to see them, but dh and I were surrounded by dozens of people for three days straight and had someone staying with us, so it's nice that it's done now.

hey mamas~

brown...sounds like your adopted mama is ultra cool! rofl on lifting the flap. i have one too...don't think it will go away with the weight loss though. i practically throw out my back to groom the netherlands.

supi...eeek! i hope you're better soon. thanks for the deet info, but i was just responding to someone's q. we have normal sized skeeters here.

doula...wish i could have come for food and zombifying the kid with yet more tv.

batty...a trip to ny? sounds fun...why not a trip to ca instead? *nudge nudge*

daam...i'm a zombie right now. had homeschool parkday at my fave park. it sits between two sections of the marina, and ends at the water. i love watching the sailboats. dh took ds up in a tree, they were so cute. then ds ran off with some little girls for the rest of the morning. after lunch we went to the japanese market, and dh found money on the ground! i told him to turn it in, but he said no, that he was destined to find it. he didn't look to see how much till later, cuz he'd put it in his pocket and forgotten. it was a 20 and a 100!!!!!!!! omm!!! so we went (with his ill gotten gain) to wholefoods and bought a bunch of veggie sushi. i feel guilty...and stuffed.

brown and katie--we are OUT for thursday. realized that is "daddy's favorite day" as thurs is known around here, as DH has off and hangs with kids all day. well, that means no nap. and no nap means bedtime is about 6:30--7...and if there wasn't school fri, i'd say whatever, but...so rock on partiers!!

nyc will cost almost $1000 for the four of us...eek! not gonna happen unless our tax refund is HUGE! so do just i go?? do we save big for our 10 yr college reunion NEXT sept and see people then...too many questions for this late at night. a shower and harry are calling my name!

Okay, so I totally have to DAAM first to get it out of my system....

We went over to the new place to pick out paint colors tonight! It is a super cool sitch - we go over and pick any color that we want for every last wall in the house. Then, we walk out the door and the paint everything before we move in! How freakin' cool is that????? Brown helped me pick out super awesome colors, while faboo Hugosmoma watched kidlets ever so graciously......

AND.....Hugosmoma also has the name of a local company that rents trucks out of Minnetonka that they have used for the last couple of moves....a 26 foot truck with mileage and all for about $50!!!! That is like HALF of Budget and U-Haul....

AND.....it seems that we have figured out a way to pay for our security deposit all at once and on time, which we thought might be an issue. And, we are getting a whole month to move, which will hopefully be totally fab and way less stressful!

Okay.....I am done with that now. :hippie

Willowsmama - our soil was l ike that too! I know NOTHING about gardening, and that part alone seriously discouraged me enough to not start one this year. GOOD LUCK!!! :)

Katie - I am sorry you are so bummed. It is always sad to see someone go. Maybe now you will have more time to foster another relationship that you have wanted more time for....(like me! j/k lol) What does YOUR hair look like????

Moon - No one has called you a babe before? I can't believe that is true. Won't believe it is true! You are BABELICIOUS!!! :love AMistad has always been on my list. Super cool about the money.....

Batty - NY - TOTALLY crappy decision. *totally* know where you are coming from! Have to make that decision all of the time about Boston, NYC, Florida and LA! :crying

Brown - The nakie commune? Whoo hoo! lol :hippie

Brown and Katie - I have to work on Thursday, and totally can't afford to take off with everything going on. But, Umar and Quinn should be there..... :-wool

Doula - one of these times we are going to be able to make it to your house!!!

Supie - I am so sorry you are feeling crappy. Try not to be the super Martha ;) and take good care of YOURSELF. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do. :love

AmyRobynne - how awesome to be able to see all of those people! I am glad you had fun!

Good night all!!!!

Hello ladies!
I keep wondering if it's safe to be on the comp. during a storm. Doesn't seem too intense now, so I think it's ok.

curvie - oh my oh my! Where do your parents live? Hope they're ok! I wanna know what colors you picked too. How fun!!

KJ - glad your doula mtg. went well!

batty - my sis is devouring hp too. At last check she was on pg. 236 and just started yesterday!

DEET wonderers - there's an article in Variety of today's paper. Has anyone tried Jason (natural products) Bye-Bye Bugs Sunblock? My m-i-l swore by it last summer (she even put it on her dog!!) so I got some, but haven't had the chance to try it out in a 'real' bug situation yet. It smells good too, like fake watermelon or something. I also have the Burt's Bees Bug Repellant, but I can't say it works terrifically. Better than nothing though!

moon - $120?! wow! Did ya splurge on anything else?!

mamar - hope you're starting to feel better. What a bummer! Hope you got some help too.

kd and brownie - still gotta get my butt over to 'the' site and check out the party info! And sara mama baby pictures!

Can you believe I'm 32 weeks pg.? So I need some experienced pg. mama advice on the aches - my pubic bone aches so bad - anyone have any tips on how to make it better? Besides have the baby! Not walking helps, but that's pretty hard to avoid!

Hope everyone is safe n' sound. Night!

Don't know about my mom yet.....

And Smeta....CHIROPRACTOR!!!! I had an absolutely WONDERFUL one when I was pregnant with Quinn. She is in Edina on 50th and France, and I think most insurances she takes. I really really really liked her, and she was knowledgeable about pregnant women. If you are interested....

50th and France Chiropratic (http://www.50thandfrancechiro.com/)

She is the woman! :)

Good luck!!!!! I know exactly what you are doing through!!!

Curvie, hows the folks? SIL is getting hit in Hutch right now. Inlaws are next, Darwin. Glad it ended for the metro.

Smeta, Autumn R. finally got me to check into a chiropractor so that I got my referral today as I have been having similar pain and some lower back occasional bad pain. Also many say it can help the baby get in the right position. You may want to do the same. By the way blood pressure was up but it could be cuz I kinda had a busy day. Smeta I am 34 weeks. We brought Autumn R. dinner tonite. All I can say is what a mellow, peaceful household. We had a nice time.

Doula, keep typing. :thumb

Night all.:zzz

Curvie we just crossposted!!!! Thanks for the referral.

And Autumn would love to have you bring something, Kate and I think Monkeymama are still doing something too.

Smeta...and anyone else who is interested....

I would do a search on Pubic Symphasis. It is not something that a lot of doctors know about, but chiros do. From what I understand it is relatively rare, but something to consider. I know that I had all of the symptoms....you can check out this link for starters. There is a lot of British stuff on this out there on the web....

Midwifery Today link (http://www.naturalchildbirth.org/natural/resources/prebirth/prebirth44.htm)

Second one (http://www.findamidwifetoday.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2354)

There are lots more out there - google it!

I third (fourth?) the chiropractic suggestion. I started going when I was 4 months' pregnant or so... one side of my pelvis was like an inch higher than the other! :eek I had been driving around feeling like the back of the car seat was twisted... well, it wasn't the seat, let me tell you. I can't imagine how awful it would've been if I'd just let it go, because I was in some wicked pain until I'd been seeing my chiro for a month. Then, I just sort of jumped off the table and skipped out the door until the next week, when I dragged my sorry butt in again.

My poor child has started to refuse to go to sleep unless she's being carried around. Luckily, I've been expanding my repertoire of songs to sing to her, but gosh is my back sore. And my feet, too, come to think about it.

After much agonizing over whether or not to skip all vaccines or just some, we decided to get her the HiB (hemophilus influenzae B) vaccine. Lots of reasons which I won't go into here. But gosh, do I feel like I betrayed her trust in me when I let the nurse stick her little leg. One moment she's happy and smiling - "Everybody loves me, and the world is great!", the next moment she's got this horrible pain in her leg. How does she know that the pain will pass in a moment and that Mommy will make everything okay? She doesn't! She screamed for 5 minutes, and I cried almost as hard as she did. Finally calmed down enough to get her dressed and leave, but she has been touchy all day. At least she napped fairly well. She hasn't nursed well today, but that's been the story all week. Just different today in that she screamed if I even brought her close to horizontal in the vicinity of my breast when she wasn't hungry.

Lots of mama guilt around here today, but it got somewhat better when I got in the tub with her and saw her face light up when she realized that it was her absolute favorite playtime. I love her smile... now I'm tearing up. I need to go to bed because I miss her.

Boy, am I emotional today. I hope it's not Aunt Flo coming back from her vacation. I am so not ready for that.

Hi all!

Baby I is doing well! Gaining weight and has an awful diaper rash. DS #1 is having a really rougth time...despite wonderful advice from our pediatrician. Rage....poor little guy must really feel put out by the arrival of Baby I. Doing our best...

I think I'm up for company / dinners etc. now -- anyone want to play tomorrow afternoon? Say after 3:30? Need to check out when Katie's party is, as I'm pretty sure we can make it. Someone call me tonight at home?

BUg Juice -- do check out the strib article. Basically, if you want to use DEET, use Off SKintastic, which is less than 10% Deet --works great. Plus there is something called "Repellant" which we have used as well, (it's good) that does not have DEET, but uses Eucalyptis. Anything else (citronella, lemon grass etc.) in clinical trials is next to worthless...

Chiro -- Check out LANGFORD CHIROPRACTIC in St. Paul -- they were great during my pregnancy. An all women clinic in Highland Park St Paul.

SUPI -- hugs to you. Next week, if you are still feeling sick, we can walk over and play with E while you rest.

DAAM - hanging out at my fabulous parent's house. DS#1 went down slick! Must have been that nakey swimming at Excelsior beach (okay only him, my dad and I were dressed and just waded). DS#2 is snoring on my lap....Gotta run, my dad needs to use the phone and I'm their aol dial up....

Hey mommas.:) Thanks for all of your kind words re: my brother and sil moving away. I am still bummed, but the shock of it has worn off. Am trying to get ready for Nygel's parties over here (we have a family party on Saturday with another petting zoo!), so I am feeling a little frazzled. Last night it rained *so* much here that I could not believe it. Our power was out for much of the night, too, which meant no sump pump in our old icky basement.:angry Not a pretty scene down there, I tell ya. I am praying for some sunshine for tomorrow and this weekend; enough with the rain already.:sunshine

Saramama~ I am so sorry S. is having a tough time!:hug 's to you guys!! It sounds like I. is doing really well, though. I would be up for bringing something by sometime to help you out...or maybe holding I. so you and S. can play...? Oh, the party is at 6:30; will try and call you in case you don't see this.

Jessikate~ Sorry your little one isn't feeling well. The screaming to me sounds related to the shot. Nygel had a simliar reaction and we decided to discontinue the HIB shots.:hug

Moon~ I'll be looking for your nakie spirit! You babe, you! I was excited the other day-- went to J.Jill and I am down a size as well! Guess all this sweating to Firm tapes is actually doing something.:p

Littlecurvie~ How is your mom?? I am bummed you have to work! Poopy deal! Krista is coming...will have to play one of these days.

Battymom~ Will miss you too! Oh, soccer is on fridays at 2, across the street from my house.

Smeta~ Hope the chiro helps you out!

Brown~ Your post had me cracking up! :-wool You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers, momma.:Kiss

Mamar~ How are you doing?

This post is getting waaayyy to long. Did want to mention the sale at the shoe zoo, though-- it starts tomorrow w/ everything 15-70% off! It runs thru the 13th. Also, my hair stylist who I *love* is having an art sale in Bryn Mawr this sunday and monday; if you swing by with one of the coupons I have, you can get 50% off a haircut or color. Lemme know if anyone is interested.

Okay, must run and go clean!

hey mamas. quick update. feeling much better today, though i still sound like an emphazemic old man. my mom came down today! mixed blessing: i'm thrilled she's here to help, but i've also been getting mini-lectures on how i should think about putting e in daycare so i get a break (like my child, who i love more than life, is the one making me sick? how does that make sense?). anyway, i'm trying to bite my tongue and be as greatful as possible.

i'm also doing anti-rain dances since i REALLY want to go camping this weekend. everyone say a prayer that it stops? at least for the weekend?

oh, and batty! how are you doing with harry? i only have 200 pages left! woo hoo! i swear its the only reason i've been able to rest as much as i have. i started it on monday - fastest 600+ pages ever.

edit to add: my mom is really not a troll. she's a wonderful mom...i just need someplace to vent about some of our relational shortcomings once in a while.

Thanks for the advice on pubic pain ladies! Fortunately, it's not severe enough to be Pubic Symphas, but thanks for the helpful links Curvie!

I'm going to Dr. Issacson in Excelsior - my childhood babysitter recommended him, she's been going to him for years and she lives in Rogers! Actually, Cora and I went over there for a playdate today! She has two dd's and a ds so it was fun for all of us.

KJ - will you please email me the party info too? I'm a dork and can't remember my password at the other site.
Now you have me craving a Blizzard. I already had a nasty cupcake today. It was yummy though!

kdmw - hope your bsmt isn't too bad!

mamar - glad you're feeling better and hope your mama backs off! feel free to vent, that's what we're here for!

Sara - glad the littlest one is doing swell and sorry to hear ds1 is having such a rough time. Just curious - is he nursing a ton more now?

one more thing...

what's the best way for making cloth wipes? I think I've heard to use flannel and sew around the edges?

jessikate
06-25-2003, 10:21 PM
Cloth wipes:

I have some that are velour on one side and flannel on the other, and some that are just flannel. I find myself reaching for the velour/flannel ones way more often than the plain flannel - the velour does a better job of grabbing poopies. You can buy it online (I haven't found much locally) or Hancock Fabrics has a terry velour that's 100% cotton. So you could just cut it into squares and zigzag or serge the edges. I'm thinking about getting some to make more wipes once I get the manual for my serger. That's right, I've had the thing for 8 weeks and still no manual. I am :cuss about it, but should get off my duff and make some phone calls.

Today was a little better for us, but I actually had to put Gracie in the car and drive around aimlessly in order to get her to sleep. No amount of slinging or just walking the circuit of the first floor would get her to sleep. Got her to bed when I got home from the drive, and she slept for a couple hours. Probably would've slept longer, but I dropped something loud in the kitchen and woke her up. Oops. Didn't really go back to sleep for long until around 9 tonight, when DH was patient enough to keep walking for many laps past the regular, deep breaths and completely limp limbs stage. I hope she gets past this soon - it's not good for any of us if she won't go to sleep easily.

Just smallish red spot (size of a penny?) on her leg today, and somewhat tender. I'm on the fence about continuing the vax... I still feel horribly guilty about it, but I've gotten some trusted advice from the pro-vax side of the fence as well. Right now this is the only one I feel strongly about, and if this is the way she's going to react to any shots, then this is the only one she's getting.

I love Minnesota - where else can you go from having the air conditioner on full blast to wearing flannel pajamas in the course of a few hours? Probably gonna need a blanket on the bed, too. How nice to be able to snuggle up to my human furnaces instead of being baked by them.

As for the storm....there was a really bad tornado about 20 minutes from my parents house that stalled there for soooo long, and then went back up before it got to them, thank goodness. They are really small towns around there though, so all of their fire trucks and ambulances are over there.....here is a link to the MPR info:

Tornado! (http://news.mpr.org/features/2003/06/25_newsroom_storms/)

Smeta - I am interested in that question about wipes as well! I actually got all of mine on e-bay, and they are like really thin washcloths. I actually have some thicker terry ones, but I don't like them as much as the thinner ones. I guess they are kind of like flannel, but the edges seem professionally done. You could check e-bay though.....they were cheap! :)

KJ - thanks for the paint offer, but he gets it at cost too since he is an architect. And a really cool one at that! :) We don't need to paint it ourselves or pay for anything! How cool is that? :hippie

Kd - Does your basement have a lot of water???? I hope not!!

Batty - I love Harry too!

JessiKate - So sorry about the immun. stuff. It is a no-win situation no matter what you choose, I think at least. There are just HUGE pros and cons both ways. And hey, maybe you should go to your chiro again for that aching back! :) And we need to make a date to hang out, and then I can get your table back you. Plus, I want to hang out with you! :love

Supie - I hope the rain goes away so you can go camping! Knowing you, that will greatly help you feel better! ;) I hear you again on the mom stuff.....:hug

Saramama - Please let me know if there is anything I can do. I have been carless lately during the day, but hopefully we can see you soon! Q really likes S!

DAAM - I have sooooo ridiculously much cleaning to do, and right now I am feeling really hyper! Let's hope this stays, and then I can stay up all night and get stuff done. Cross your fingers that this energy stays! :-wool

Hey all-
Glad to hear everyone came through the storm alright!

kd- how bad is the bsmt? I hope no major damage.

Kj- I think if it makes you happy, go for it! IMO we all need something, books, knitting ect. We are women too and must remember to something for ourselves. I've struggled with that myself. how long is an acceptable amount of me time?

Mamar- hope you feel lots better soon. May the no-rain banana dances give you a dry weekend.

Littlecurvie- You are a cleaning machine !!!!! Hope you don't get tired.

Jessikate- Hopefully G will be her happy self soon. Can't be any fun for her either, not being able to say exactly what's buggimg her. Call me if you need anything!

I'm really confused....keep hearing about this other site where all the good info is hiding(Saramama's ds#2 name) can someone fill me in?

DAAM- Bought fabric to make W a little sundress and S some jammies. I'm all happy, everyone's asleep. And now my machine's all funky!GGRRRR Bobbin thread keeps getting tangled and all bunchy like. Remind me why I started sewing again? I have barely touched that machine since i got it out of the shop.

Nothin' but daam!

I wanted to share some good news with all. After much thought, decision making, processing, program proposal, and a leap of faith...

I AM A GRAD STUDENT! I was just formally accepted today at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota! I'm designing my own program! :supermod :exclaim I am shocked that they liked my song and dance, but they did! :p

I was a bit shocked also to find out that I will be attending an overnight retreat *this* week-end to kick things off! Thanks to my usual sitter and Hugosmoma, I will be going with a comfortable feeling that all will be well...my first night away from Blue ever! Wish him (and me...and Hugosmoma) well!

Hope to see some of you at the two year old shindig tomorrow...and have fun camping to all who are going.

Mamar glad you are feeling better. It's all about balance and you are obviously striving. Do continue to take care...however *you* feel comfortable doing that!

SummerLover too...glad you are feeling better! Hoping to chat about your plans tomorrow night...been wondering about all of it...if anything is down under in the future et al.

Supi, I SO know that feeling. I *GASP* haven't read Harry Potter, but there are many, many books that I've read where I've been wandering around for days after thinking about the characters. I've even caught myself thinking "I wonder what so-and-so is up to" before remembering that it was just a person in a book, not real life. Get absorbed in books much, Jess?

Looking forward to camping!

i don't get this way with ALL books. actually, most of the reading i do tends to be non-fiction - stuff about parenting, gardening, backpacking, ecology, biology, etc. - mainly because i have such limited reading time. i've found it much easier to set aside a non-fiction book and go back to it days later than i would with a good novel. the last good novel i read was "the red tent", which i finished when i had my last round with lung crud.

anyway, i feel lost! hee hee. can't that woman write any faster? :angry

and jessikate - i have all the harry potters, if you're interested. when the first book came out, my mom had to special order it from barnes and noble, because they weren't stocking it yet! she had heard about it from an old college friend who has kids and lives outside of london. i never thought i would like them...but i have completely enjoyed every single one!

Anyone got a fence they wanna sell real cheap? Ours is toast thx to the UnTornados -- ok, fine Mr Meterologists, don't call them tornados, but when huge chunks of sidewalk in my neighborhood are picked up and thrown on top of cars and when 100 yr old elms are split like matchsticks and tossed into the creek - pretty suspicious. Especially when the "strong winds" noted were of a rotating variety. No one hurt, thank Maude. We're fine, really.

Cattrane - thx for the links - hey y'all, we've been neglecting our welcome mat - get thee to her links.

Going to miss all of you SG mamas, and am excited to see the camping mamas - TOMORROW!!! yipppeee

Monday noon - Lake H playground, need directions, pm me, all invited.

Brown, congrats, that is wonderful news. And still remembering your other news and holding you in the light for that. Couldn't come for your boy and K's boy tonight - my mama came and made a little party for me, sweet lady that she is.

OK, gotta sleep fast, do my thing tomorrow and then pack and head off to the "Jungles of the East St Paul" thankyou John Prine hee hee

:zzz Hey mommas. I am soooo tired right now. I guess I am worn out from all the party preparations and now from sitting outside while the kids played soccer. Feel like I need a nap. Anyway, I wanted to thank all who celebrated with us last night!:love We had fun! Those of you who couldn't make it were missed!

Saramama~ I think your dh left his jacket here...? It is black from some golfing benefit. Is it his?

Also found a pair of white socks, probably Fish's...not sure though. Lemme know if anyone is missing them.

Brown~ I hope things are going well for you today! Congratulations again!!!:balloons Blue is in good hands with Hugosmama.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILLOW!!!! :banana :Kiss

Mamar~ E. is very sweet!!:love

Snow~ I am so sorry for your fence! Our basement had major water in it, but is finally all dried out now. Maybe we could get a stretch of sunny, dry weather here for a change...:shake . Glad you had some time with your momma!

Wackadoo~:hug 's to you and your family. We missed you last night.

Have a great time all you campers! I hope the weather is nice for us all: we have a pony and petting zoo planned for tomorrow evening and I *pray* that the skies are clear!
