Hi! My name is Rachel and I just stumbled upon all you wonderful locals! I joined MDC last week and have been looking around--mostly in the diapering threads (I'm an addict). Anyway...just wanted to introduce myself and find out what you all do, where you all live, etc, etc. I have a dh, a 7 yo son and a 6 month old son. We live in Jordan (next town south of Shakopee). I'm a sahm but a couple of days a week I run a nifty little thrift shop called Hit or Miss. The kiddos come with me, which can be a challenge at times but definitely awesome to be able to do it. I look forward to chatting and possible meeting you gals. :)

Hi Rachel! and welcome to the Mothering boards! I myself am also addicted to CD!! and have spent many a day seeing what people like and don't like on the CD boards. But then I found myself buying everything and I had to step away for awhile. Still trying to get some SOS diapers....but oh-well. Bought my first wool Bumpy here at Peapods and I love it! Have to say though that my favorite is the Happy Heiny's with a puddlepads insert..and you? I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, Hannick and a 16 month old daughter, Kettie. I am in West Saint paul. Nice to meet you! BTW, I love Jordan, what a wonderful place to raise children. I got married in Shakopee, at the Ren Fest!!

Hi Sarah! Happy to "meet" you.
My dh and I got hooked on FB's with Joeys, so that's our main dipe. At one point I think I had about 30 FB's alone, but I sold off a bunch. I want to try one of everything! I won a Fuzbomb on ebay last week, so I can't wait to try that. I have enough diapers to keep about 5-6 babes comfortably diapered with washing every 2-3 days. :eek
Most of my stash are just some plain old cotton fitted velcro diapers. I hit the mother lode one day and won an auction for 72 of them for just $50. Couldn't pass it up. I don't really use them because I have enough FB's, Cuddlebuns, and other various "cuter" diapers around, but I figure they are good to have around just in case I get pg with quads or something! ;) :LOL

:wave Welcome to the tribe! The mamas here are great! My name is Heather and I have two girls, Kalyn (4 in Sept) and Saige (15 months). I live in Woodbury (east suburb). We drive through Jordan all the time when we drive back to South Dakota. It's seems like a great little town.

I started out with all white Motherease Sandies and regular Motherease. I had ME covers as well as biobottoms and I bought a couple of prowraps and kissaluvs. Well, I recieved those for free through Twincities Free Market and wanted to add some color into my life. I have about 10 Lukes Drawers, one AIW and a bunch of AIO's as well as some Cotton Candies. 4 HH, which I want a lot more of!! 6 Clothbaby Bold colored diapers, one of my favorites, some Little Lambs that are OK...I have about 35-40 diapers, half of which are AIO's, which I prefer. I have a couple of Stacinators, some colorful Bumkins covers and AIO's (which I hate, but DH likes- the AIO's) and my favorite for holding the pee in...Bummies whisperwraps, which I got at Peapods. I don't think that I have a white diaper in the whole lot...wait a minute, I have one LD that is white with rainbow serging. But it is so soft and yummy!! Just talking about diapers makes me want to buy more!! I didnt' start CDing until Kettie (my 16 month old) was 9 months old, so for the next, I have to buy the newborn and middle sizes! I have all Large and X-large, but if I have a boy, I will have to get a lot of boyish ones. the ones that I have a very girly for the most part! Ok.....
BTW- I gave away all of my ME and prowraps and Kissaluvs to a great friend, so the diapers that I don't use are still getting much wear and usage!

Thanks Heather! We used to drive through Woodbury all the time on our way to Wisconsin! (I went to UW-Stout for a while)
Sarah--I had ME's also--I sold off a lot of 18 of those plus the liners and 4 covers on ebay a couple of months ago. I've been using that money to buy more! I can't stop! :bouncy

Sarah--I'm assuming you are a doula (gee, wonder where I got that idea! :LOL). I have a friend who is pg and she is interested in looking into a doula. Do you assist the birth, or do you also assist the new mother at home? She will be a single mom and needs all the help she can get. She's struggling financially, tho...don't know how much a doula runs. TIA!

Hi, Rachel! Welcome to the boards.
Nice to see another CD addict here (like there aren't any already, lol). We use mostly prefolds and Bummis wraps, but I've got some FMBG, which I love, as well as a couple SOS, a Happy Heiny, and some Cuddlebuns. So many things to try out!
I see that you went to Stout... my in-laws both teach there in the Math dept. Funny!
Hope you can make it to one of our Saturday get-togethers - it'd be nice to meet you in real life.

Yep...got the skinny. Thanks! :D
I don't know if the Saturdays will work for me but maybe I'll be able to make it once or twice.
Hi Sarah!
My CD collection isn't that great compared to some here. I've been really wanting to expand my stash but always just keep coming back to FB's. They work great for everything...nighttime, days out, home, etc. So...I may just suppress my urges from now on and stick with what works for us. :)
I have a question to all you CD gals- is it too late to start using (mainly the investment of money) CDs on my 21 mnth old?I hate the fact that I use dispossibles and am trying to decide between switching to CD or potty learning(I'm not quite sure she's ready though she is showing interest- takes off diaper then sits on toilet but doesn't do anything). If I make the switch to CDs does anyone know where I might be able to get a hold of them cheaply?

There's a store here in St. Paul on Snelling at St. Clair called Peapods. They sell Chinese Prefolds, which would be the cheapest style of diaper to get. I'd get 2 dozen of them and 3-4 covers, which should run you $75 or so, total. If you decide to have another child, you'll be able to use these diapers and covers again, too, so it's a good value. Of course, if you don't have another baby, you can always re-sell the diapers for fairly close to what you paid.
I'm just guessing at the 2 dozen diapers - get enough so that you can go a couple days between washes, or wash every other day. I have no idea how often a 21-month-old eliminates, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
I'd personally say "Go for it" with the switch to cloth. It may spur your toddler to potty learn faster because she'll be better able to feel when she's wet.
Good luck!

we moved here when ds was 2 and had given away all our cool dipes due to not having laundry access before moving, and when i started working we totally went disposable. figured it'd be 9 months or so since he was totally interested in the toilet, and knew when he was eliminating....he wasn't out of dipes until the day he turned 4!
a while ago i added up what i spent on the damn pullups compared to rebuying cloth, and about killed myself :D
your dd likely won't be quite as stubborn as my guy :p but i'd think it would still be beneficial to invest in cloth - i wish i would have just for the fact it IS cloth and not chemical crap! if i would've realized that gel crud was gonna be on his tush for two years i totally would have gone cloth...the closest i got was training undies with homemade wool soakers for around the house
I don't know if I'll be able to make saturdays I too have to work.Actualy I work every weekend all weekend.:crying
I'm off now I hope I'll get to check back in a week.Going home have no computer.
You all have been very nice.Sorry again about my tiraid.:o
Doulasarah I'll try to get a hold of you next week if I remember. And Cattrane thanks for listening and sharing.
I think I'm going to get some CD next week too.:thumb
Later Mommas!! :hippie :love

I am another MN Cloth Diaper Addict. I started off with simple diapers I bought a noble birth but then after many leaks etc...checked into Luke's Drawers and found heaven. I also am quite fond of Chumbas Super Trim and Honey Boy. I recently have been trading some hemp clothing etc..for WAHM's to make me diapers and boy have I ended up with some cute diapers. So so fun!!!!
Anyway Iona, my good friend from Childhood who lives in Sioux Falls and posts on these boards started cloth diapering when her son was 26 months so you may want to PM her.

welcome! :D
Welcome Rachel - it seems you are fitting in very nicely w/ our other cd enthusiasts - I am cracking up here at all the varieties, colors etc ;) We did the cloth dipes too but good ol diaper service so I have no idea what you all are talking about but it sounds fascinating, lol
And Iona, yes, I would switch to cloth even at toddler stage. And the toilet training is easier as they feel the wetness sooner/easier than w/ the gel crap. But don't guilt yourself if you can't do it. And another thing to consider is just trying diaper service, at least for the 6 wk start up period and see how you like cloth. Since the time period is going to be so short for you, diaper service might even work out to be cheaper than buying.
Anyway, welcome Rachel! I know Jordan pretty well, work at the nearby city's dinner theatre. A former employee and his dd (& his new-ish wife) have lived in Jordan for around 10 yrs, am dying to see if you know them...
