I am the original "no-I-don't-leave-my-baby-with-anyone" woman.

I think I let Maeve go to my mother's for an afternoon for the first time when she was four.

I was a freak, I cried and called at least three times.

I am marginally better now. :wink Sophie, at 19 months, was allowed to go for an over night to her Granny's with her big sister and AFTER Grandmum had spent the night with her here, once.

The only person traumatized was me.

But now I am in an odd position. It is necessary for me to see a doctor once a week for about an hour and a half or so, and I cannot take the kids with me, and I know *no one* up there except dp, and if I leave them with someone here it means I will actually be apart from them for almost 6 hours, with travel time.

So I need help, mothering friends. Who could you leave a ten year old and a 19 month old with, with total confidence? The ten yo is an outstanding helper with her baby sister.....the 19 month old is wonderful, of course, trauma to the baby will be much limited by the presence of her beloved older sister...

I have to do this, it's not an option, I really need some input.....I DO have the option of leaving the kids with a sitter at dp's house with the right sitter OR taking the kids to someone whose set up for kids in a way dp's place is not, at the moment.

This process will be regular for about 6 months and then it will hopefully turn into occasional use.

I am also checking out leads from dp's UU Church, which would make me feel nice, and he thinks his secretary might be wonderful, she has a two year old, but I'm not so convinced.

Help!

Our pet sitter used to work as a nanny, and she lives in Rockville. I can get her number and PM you if you're interested in giving her a call. She's really nice. I've never asked her to babysit, as ds is only 10.5 months and I've never left him with a babysitter before.

HTH!

Jane, I found two teenage girls through dp's UU church....they assist the nursery programme threre and came highly recommended, so I think I'm going to be ok.

Thank you very much. :love
