View Full Version : Birth ball "chairs"?

I finally got my birth ball out to sit on and, ahhh.... it's such sweet relief! But I like to have it at my desk (where I sit most often) and it's just rather LOW for that. Of course that's good for some things - but hard to do much at the computer that way! I think last time I adjusted the screen (love iMacs!) and switched back and forth between chair and ball periodically.

This time, I've heard of some of the supports for the balls to make it more like a chair. Does anyone have recommendations of good ones? I'd love to get something that doesn't have a ball with it, as mine is in great shape still.

Thanks!

Good idea, thanks! What size is your bigger one?

I would stick with a bigger ball and keep it on the firmer side to use as an office chair.
With my last baby I was having lots of leg pain. My dh bought be one of those chairs. It was very pricey and a pain. I didn't like it. He returned and got me a second ball.

I'm also intersted to know how big it is.
Also, I bought an exercise ball for this purpose just yesterday, is that close enough to the same thing or are you guys using specific "birth balls". The one I bought was 25.5 inches (65 cm)--I went with the smaller of two choices, which has a woman on the box. The other one was bigger and had a man on the box. :lol
Is this going to work? I haven't opened it yet.

Ps. I'm 5'6/5'7 tall if that matters

Thanks for the info, mamas!

Yes, exercise ball = birth ball. Exactly the same thing. :D The one I'm using here is also 65cm, so I'll look into a bigger one for sitting on. Though after a while, my pelvis is actually getting sore from stretching so much! :lol

I guess that's why I've always kept a real chair handy, too!

I have that chair as my desk chair and I love it - it works great - the ball is too small to be used on its own as a seat though - I also have a bigger ball for sitting on without the chair base...

That's the one I had and I hated it. :lol Guess everyone is different.

I couldn't find any pictures online...but I've seen these in stores that specialize in physical therapy tools and back health.

They are little "exercise balls" that are more oval shaped and are designed to be put on the seat of a regular office chair. One of my coworkers had back surgery and used one of these for months aftwerwards. I know he got his from his physical therapist, but I have seen them in shops as well so I KNOW they're out there.

Good luck!

I did that during my last pregnancy. It was an OK height for me, as I'm short and have everything put down low. It felt soooo good. I have been thinking about getting a new one and using it already, even though I'm only a few weeks pg.

Thanks! I made DH take it back and get the bigger one, 75 cm, I haven't blown it up yet but hoping it will do the trick...

I have one from www.gaiam.com that I like. It's a kid magnet though... the boys are always taking the ball out and playing with it.

Have you tried a kneeling chair? They don't specifically open your pelvis but they get your legs out of the way of your belly while you sit. I go back and forth between this and a regular chair at work, for variety. They're not expensive, and they slide under a desk very nicely.
