I swear by colace or any generic version thereof. It's a perfectly safe stool softner. I take it at night and then in the morning I drink lot's and lot's of warm water until it all comes out. The warm water definitely helps a lot. Try to drink it and have a bm before eating if you can. It makes the water more effective.

Have you tried eating raisin bran or shredded wheat? They seem to work well too.

I live off of high fiber cereal, like raisin bran and eat a lot of prunes and drink prune juice when I'm pg. I need to stock up on these things now, as things have been slowing down. During my last pregnancy, I had a bad bout of constipation (I hadn't been eating the above) and my sister told me to drink soda. She is a nurse and said they always give sugar to patients who are constipated. I drank about 2 glasses of root beer and it worked. Then, I got back on my high fiber foods and didn't have a problem for the rest of the pregnancy.

I personally tried EVERYTHING, eating prunes, drinking fluids, colace, etc. I finally took "milk of magnesia" (oked by my OB) and after 2 night of drinking it, I finally was relieved. I have to take it a lot right now, just to have a BM at least once or twice a week! Ugh! :o

Drink alfalfa in your loose leaf teas and maybe try Chlorophyll. You get good iron from it, but also get to poo more :-)

I make sure to have a huge bowl of raisin bran 3-5 times a week for one of my meals.

I've also started drinking Kefir with probiotics and that has made a BIG difference.

I can't even tell I'm pregnant anymore, everything is working so good.

Another thought I had, just came back from the grocery store, is viactive yougart from Dannon. That works really well too because of the probiotics.

I'd forgotten about this part of pregnancy. It's been 6 years since my last was born. The best thing is to drink a LOT of water. You probably already are, but drink even more. Also, prune juice. Stick to higher fiber foods, high fiber bread (read the label, looks can be decieving!), oatmeal (yuck, I HATE oatmeal).

Sorry!!

Yep -- high fiber cereals do the trick! Bran buds are actually pretty good mixed in yogurt. Also good with fruit added in. Works like a charm!

Prunes and prune or plum juice helped me the most, and drinking water and making sure I was actually getting enough fruits and vegetables.

Warm Prune Juice. I got many a constipated patient to poop that way.

strangely, I had a huge craving for KFC tonight. I gave in and am now completely cleaned out. It must be all the grease. I do feel like a new woman though.

my midwife gave me something called Fybogel....u mix it with water and drink it after meals.

"each single dose sachet of granules contains 3.5g Ispaghula Husk B.B in an orange flavored base containing aspartame and potassium bicarbonate, beta carotene color, sodium bicarbonate, polysorbate 80, silica colloidal anhydrous and citric acid."

it says its high in natural fibre....I hope it helps.
