Has anyone ever used snap tape on their dipes rather than snaps or aplix? I noticed that All Together diapers has snap tape on it, and they have pretty good reviews. Anyways, Joanns has snap tape on sale . . .

What is this snap tape that you speak of? I have never heard of it! Do you have a link/picture? Thanks!!!

"Snap tape lets you apply an entire row of snaps all at once. The ball and socket portions of the snaps are mounted onto separate pieces of twill tape - balls on one piece, sockets on another. You may have seen such snaps applied to the crotch and leg areas of infant sleepers and other children's clothing. "
That's the definition I got. I can't right click the picture, but if you go here:
http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=clothdiape&BusType=BtoC&Count1=988125026&Count2=905265450&CategoryID=8&Target=products.asp
it's the closure on these diapers. They have a pretty good rating for durability. But I'm wondering why I haven't seen it on more dipes? It is slightly more expensive than just snaps themselves, but if you don't have the money to spend on a snap press (like me) and don't want to use a hammer, I'm wondering if if would be a good option (other than hook and loop).

i've never used snap take because from what i have heard it just doesn't hold up to wear and tear that diapers get.

I have a flannel fitted WAHM diaper tester with snap tape on it. It seemed OK. It was the rest of the diaper that fell apart after one washing.... :lol

I just found it here:

http://www.mendels.com/fasteners.html

with free shipping. Would be worth trying IMO. I've got some older velcro diapers that my DD has been ripping off lately. Think I'm going to get a yard and add it to those and see how it works. Maybe in addition to the velcro it will last longer? They're starting to get threadbare in spots anyways so probably wont last more than another 6 months or so.

The way I understand it, metal snaps just don't hold up as well to all the washing/drying and repeated fastening and unfastening...but if you keep that in mind, they will *work*.

I think snap tape is a great idea to try, no need to reinforce the fabric around the snap--it's already done for you! :D I've been thinking about getting a metal snap set (you can buy them at Wal-Mart or Joann's Fabric) and using that...but snap tape is an even better idea.

One of these days, I'm going to get a snap press and nylon snaps... <sigh>

Dritz has snap tape w/ plastic snaps (made for infant's and kid's clothes). I bought a whole roll (12 yards) for $9 when my Hancock's was going out of business. I'll let you all know if I like it (once I can get some dipes made up). I'm also going to put it around the waist of some pj's for DS to keep the kid out of his diaper :o

So anyone try this yet?

I havent used it yet. Still waiting on a few yards of PUL from my coop to get here.

About metal snaps though... I have some second hand fitteds that I got off of FSOT here a few months ago that I LOVE. They have 2 metal snaps on each side and can generally even withstand my toddler tugging at them to remove them. I was actually hunting for metal hammerable snaps for awhile because i like them so much. I wash 3 washes (cold hot cold) with not always the best detergent (I was using whatever I had for the first month or so).

slightly OT just wanted to share my love of metal snaps

I went ahead and bought a snap plier and some heavy-duty metal snaps, and so far, I really like them! They seem pretty secure, and DS hasn't figured out how to get his diaper off--hooray for no velcro! :lol
