I've been taking long walks around the neighborhood which is nice and relaxing, but I don't feel up to much more than that. I was hitting the gym all last week, but the fatigue has set in already.

Also, has anyone heard much about the safety of yoga in the first trimester?

I have a book of simple and pretty easy yoga poses that is divided into trimesters. I used it with my last pregnancy and I think it is completely safe. I'm sure a good book or video would be easy to find.

I've been pretty energetic and walking like crazy! Of course I am barely pregnant, and I'm sure it will change!!

I've been walking and doing my prenatal yoga.

I use a bicycle as my main mode of transportation as well as my main source of exercise. Since I hit 40, I get depressed and just plain "antsy" and crawling out of my skin if I don't get enough exercise, at least a short ride into town and back every day. I've felt even more so since I've gotten pregnant and don't think much of heading up to the next town along the highway. I think I must have ridden 20 miles the weekend before last and it felt wonderful.

I've heard that you can continue whatever exercise program you are accustomed to during pregnancy as long as you are comfortable, but that it may not be a good idea to take up a new sport, depending on the sport itself.

Yoga has been recommended as the best NEW exercise program to start in later pregnancy so I'm sure it would be fine for the first trimester. Walking is also a good new exercise program to start and what my midwives recommended when I was a 20-something year old bookworm/couch potato who would have been perfectly happy as a bedridden invalid living entirely inside her own mind.

I have been finding the glider machines (kinda a cross between a ski machine and step machine) to feel the best right now, but I am alternating days with a short run with my dog. I will probably switch to walks when/if it gets uncomfortable.

I'm still running and doing pilates... trying to do it in the morning b/c by the end of the day... I'm cooked!

:lol I'd love to start exercising again now that Mike's blood sugar is under control, but I'm too tired in the mornings (gagging on my toothpaste just wipes me out. :lol):o I may try later. :lol

:truedat: I feel the same with the running (not doing the pilates, though planning on doing yoga.).

I definitely want to look into doing pilates when the weather gets bad or when I get too unbalanced to enjoy bicycling for fun. I generally prefer incorporating exercise into daily life, such as using a rotary mower instead of a power mower, people-powered transportation rather than gasoline powered transportation, etc. to going to the gym to work out, but now that I'm going to be an older mother I really do want to start taking better care of my body.

When my teens were toddlers and preschoolers, most of my mommy friends were in their forties and I remember how they would mostly sit and talk at the park while I could easily shift gears from talking to running around and playing with the kids. I also loved getting down on my hands and knees, putting both toddler/preschoolers on my back, and playing horsey. I roughoused with my boy until he was 12 or 13.

Many times when I was younger, I said that I absolutely wanted to be "done" having kids by the time I was 35. My main reason was that I didn't think I would be physically up to the kind of active play I enjoyed with my kids in my 20s.

Now I understand that it doesn't have to be that way and if we take care of our bodies, age doesn't have to mean less activity. I actually enjoy exercise much more now than I did when I was younger. I'm willing to work on keeping my body in shape so that I can enjoy playing horsey at 46, swinging on the swings at 50, and maybe hiking the Appalachian Trail or going on a cross-country bicycle trip with both daughters and some grandkids at 60.

I exercise almost daily. I usually go to the gym in the morning and do 30 minutes on the eliptical machine and then take a class; either pilates, aerobic/muscle toning strengthening or stretch class. In the evening I walk about 4 miles. I really need this time each day and if I don't do it I feel guilty and really feel yucky. The gym is great b/c the kids love the nursery there so I can have time all to myself! We all go on the walks at night, I put the boys in the double jogger and my dd rides her scooter alongside of me!

I am starting to feel more fatigued during the day, I hope that I can keep it up! The funny thing is once I lay down at night I am having a tough time falling asleep.

I'm going to keep on doing my regimen at the Y. Now it takes more effort to go through the exercises, but I always feel proud of myself afterwards so I just focus on that feeling to look forward to when I work out.

This time around I just feel too sick to do anything. I've always walked, at least throughout my pregnancies. Right now I get rubber legs and dry heaves when I stand up to do anything. So, taking care of my children, doing laundry, household stuff, etc... has become the most challenging exercise in the world. But I feel so guilty for not at least walking a little bit... Well, this should get better in the next trimester.
