What kinds of things are you doing over the summer for your montessori children? Have any cool activities planned? trips? fun reading?

Just trying to get some ideas. Dh and I are thinking of trying to build a playhouse for the kids together and set it up with shelving and lots of child sized toys/furniture.

That sounds like a lovely project!!!

Well, our plans for the summer is the pool. We joined a nearby pool club that offers swim lessons and tennis and I plan (as soon as I recover from this illness) to bring them there everyday.

We are in search of an affordable pool/pool club to join around here! The prices are pretty crazy in this area it seems and the only two we have found to be affordable are not heated pools (and others users tell us that their kids don't spend much time in the water because it is so cold all summer).

I think your idea of building a playhouse with shelves is a great idea! When I taught, we did that for the kids and then filled the shelves with practical life materials...esp. ones that are good for outside. Pouring water, making soap bubbles, chalk drawings etc. Having the kids help you build the house would be fun too.

We are doing lots of NOTHING! It's marvelous!

I have thought about trying to work on independence/practical life stuff for ds1, who will be starting his first year in the children's house in the fall. At the moment, we're primarily working on potty training. :o

I intend to get a play area with art supplies, puzzles, etc. set up for him and work on taking one thing out at a time and then putting them back. But, I have been overwhelmed with work (I WAH periodically), so right now his play area and the rest of the house is a disaster, and nothing really gets put away when it should. :lol

But, hey, he's having all kinds of fun playing outside, we read a LOT of books, plus he's got swim lessons and music class. I still think he will adapt well to the more orderly environment of school, even if home is a bit chaotic.
