GRRR!! The pattern says the bag should measure approximately 14" by 16". I followed the pattern as it says I should, with the proper seam allowances and everything and my bag is 16X20!!! It's positively *HUGE*. Think of the bag from the movie _One Fine Day_ and you'll have an idea. There's now way I can use this as a diaper bag. I wouldn't need this much space if I was formula feeding triplets!!

I'm so mad. I'm super pregnant and wanted to get this done before baby comes because I know I won't get it done afterwards. All told, I spent almost $70 :eek on supplies to make a bag, a changing pad, and two wet bags (one for each kiddo). I was so excited about having an entire set that matched :(. I have enough fabric left to make a smaller bag, but I'll have to buy more interfacing, webbing for the handles, and then I don't know if I'll have enough time to get it done, seeing as I'm over 38 weeks now...

:bawl I should have just BOUGHT myself a bag for this price. At least it would have been what I wanted!!

So sell it on Ebay!:D
What pattern did you use? I just ordered the totesalot pattern to make myself a diaper bag, and can't wait to get started on it!

Could it be that there are parts that are supposed to fold in on the sides? Sometimes bags should have a boxy look, and when they're flat they measure much larger.

Just tryin' to help. :hug

I used Simplicity 5527 (I think you can see it here (http://www.simplicity.com/s2b.htm)). Part of the problem is that they don't put the bags in perspective at all...no on on the cover holding them, etc, so I had a hard time visualizing the size. I made bag B with a changing pad and two pouches to match. It's a really nice bag, with only one minor flaw, so I might try to sell it on ebay. I dunno...after I make a smaller one, it might be nice to have an entire "baby luggage" set, so I might keep it.

Momschooling...nope, I was measuring it right; it's just huge. I think I'm going to e-mail Simplicity and complain about it. I should've known better...Simplicity has never been one of my favorite pattern brands. My mom had major issues with their measurements and yardage requirements at times, too.

lazydaisy, it's a really nice pattern, it just doesn't come out to what it measures to be. I made bag A the second time and it's a really nice bag. I'll measure the size it turned out if you want :).

My mother has a shop back home and i make bags for her shop and for friends for baby showers and stuff. I am also making bags to put in stores here. I just finished 4 support your troops and 6 john deer bags. I have been going bags now for about 2 yrs and sometimes enjoy doing them. Sewing is a release for me...then some days when the machines are stupid i want to run...lol
But i dont use a pattern anymore. I just get my measurements and play. If someone wants me to do them a bag i just ask how big and go to town. If you wanna yell at me your more than welcome and I can try to explain it. I tryied to show my sil and i have to draw out the bag so i know what I am doing and she drew her own and lord i got so lost...lol but its super easy but a lot of explaining. But i am game to share if someone wants to know.

:hug I agree about Simplicity sewing patterns, they are not my favorite because they are so inconsistent and full of errors.

Two of my babies came at 42+ weeks and I swear it was because I didn't feel 'ready' for them. So maybe you will have more time than you think, :LOL.

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up on size -- I just bought that pattern from the last JA 99 cent sale.

I think in some way its funny (don't hurt me!) because I always wanted a bigger bag. All the bags in the store were way too small for what I wanted to carry.

I bet it would sell well on ebay.
