what does the cervix feel like???

i want to check and see if im making progress but im not sure how to tell im feeling cervix.....someone HELP!!

did i mention im having stabing cervical pain? :dizzy:

Stabbing cervical pain is common. The pressure from the inside causes some stretching and the baby's movements, esp as you get father into the pgy, poke the cervix from the inside. Ouch! I know!:dizzy: So don't worry about it too much.
AFA what your cervix feels like- for most women, the cervix is fairly high during pgy. That's not true for everyone though. If you can find a comforatble position- sitting on the toilet works well, squatting, one foot on the edge of the bathtub, you can feel for it. If you can visualize it may help- it looks like a round donut. If you've had previous vaginal births, or even some labor and dialation, the center will feel/look like a slit (-) if not then it will look/ feel like a dimple or circle (.). You will notcie that it feel more firm than the surrounding vaginal wall. Personally, I can feel the stem of the cervix as well. As you get futher into the pgy it will shorten and as you feel up around the top of it, you may be able to feel the baby's head or presenting part pressing down. That will give you an idea of why you're feeling the stretching/ stabbing pain. HTH

It feels like the end of you nose or your chin. A little squishy, but firm. And the dimple to slit ot opening is a giveaway. Also, the length is pretty distinctive too. It's about a half inch or more long that you can feel more easily when you squat.

More the issue though is if it's up too high for your fingers to reach. If you *can* reach it, it's not that hard to disntinguish.

hmmm.... I would rather have my own or familiar (dh's) fingers in me. Safer to have your own germs than an ob or midwife in a setting where many stranger vaginas are checked. Just my opinion.

Besides I find my pregnant body fascinating. I like to know what changes are occuring.

yeah same here,,,plenty of women check their cervix, why not inlist the help of my DH!

Dh never could find mine but I was able to do my own cervix checks. It is quiet fascinating.

I don't get this whole thing about "don't touch the cervix." And I'm not saying that to pick on the PP, really! Is it supposed to prevent "germs" from getting on your cervix? Because I don't make DH sterilize his man parts before we DTD. I am not trying to be snarky, this is just something I have always wondered.
