View Full Version : Stupid question - how to you sew straight?

Yesterday, I started working on a duvet (let me interject that I am a total novice sewer) and pinned it together in a line and then sewed just guiding the fabric while the machine pulled it but it didn't come out straight. Is this something that takes practice or is there a technique? Thanks.

Do you mean your seam allowance was off or that your stitches themselves were at an angle?

If it's your seam allowance, your fabric probably just shifted when sewing. What type of fabric? What type of foot? What type of needle?

If your stitches themselves aren't straight, your tension is off...sounds like the upper tension needs to be tightened.

:) let me just say I think I know what you mean since I rarely sew straight!!! I even bought a nifty new machine thinking my problem was a cheap machine but guess what?? it is user error in my case!!!
