I'm not, but we are going to be vacationing in Bali in September! Can I ask you a few questions about what to expect? I cannot wait!

I saw on your website that you have a wish list - I will see if there are any items I can bring over for you, are there any of these items that you are especially desperate for that might be small, lightweight and inexpensive to buy in America? We will be in Ubud and have a driver for several days so we would probably be able to drop them by, if you are in the vicinity? I cannot tell from your address.

hey abigail,

it is so great here. the food is yummy, it is beautiful although a bit dirty in some places and very affordable. the people are so friendly. they love and care for children and respond to their needs; it is so awesome to see and be a part of.

the birth center could really use receiving blankets. the ones here are not soft and have this film sort of thing on them so they are not absorbent or soft. that would be most helpful if you don't mind bringing some.

i would suggest packing very light. anything you need while traveling, you can get here like organic shampoo or awesome clothes or whatever. a light rain jacket and umbrella may be things you want to bring as we do get some rain. if you pack light, you will have more room for bringing things back home with you! we walk a lot so and i wear maryjane crocs 98% of the time. you can have laundry washed here easily if you do end up needing that done. capri pants and t-shirts are good outfits for me.

your driver will know where everything is that you will want to see or if you need things. bali buddha is an awesome organic restaurant with lots of veg options and yummy drinks. for the traditional ceremonies in temples, you will need a nice sort of outfit with sleeves (you can get that here though). i look forward to meeting you!!! let me know if you have any other questions, too. i have only been here a few weeks but i can ask around if i don't know the answer. it's a really great place!

Thanks for the info!! I will try to pick up some receiving blankets to bring over for you. We are planning on doing a lot of shopping and shipping a box back home so we will be packing light and hoping to stay that way. That is good to know about laundry - if I can avoid having to hand wash and hang dry in the hotel rooms I would like that. It's good to know what kind of clothes to bring too, I am worried about having something suitable for temples but I think I will just go shopping for something on the first day.

I will let you know if I have a chance to bring receiving blankets so we can arrange to meet up :)

Oh - one more question- are there any remedies you suggest that we bring with us, specific to Bali? We will have our usual travel first aid kit but I'm not sure what else we might need.

Thanks!

hey abigail!

good to hear from you! someone can take your laundry in the morning and have it returned the same day. a week's worth of clothes costs us about $7 for three people (one potty learning toddler with lots of pants!). you can totally pick up something nice for temples here; great idea.

re:remedies something to prevent mosquitoes (we use kiss my face repellant) and something for when they bite you anyway (we use burt's bees remedy stuff), sunscreen, and something for "bali belly". i took chinese herbs here for my bali belly problems but i got really good care from the birth center! so, whatever you use in seattle for that kind of thing would be good to bring. you may not end up needing it. that's all i can really think of. about half of the bathrooms are squatty potty style and some don't have running water to wash hands so you may want to bring your own hand wipes, TP and of course, hand sanitizer. you can get that stuff here, too. they even sell cloth diapers and slings here!

looking forward to meeting you soon! we should try to meet up, for sure. there are some great places to eat around here. some great kid's clothes, too!
