okay, this is more or less a get-to-know-you question :down but I'm curious:
Where do you live (urban, rural, suburbs etc)?

How long have you lived there?

Do you own your home?

Who lives with you?

Indulge me :wink

We live on the very edge of east pittsburgh so we're still considered urban (but more small city urban than NYC urban). Brick home (well, we're the bottom floor of a two story duplex), brick roads, very cute but we're a little squished with only two bedrooms. We've lived here for five months, lived in the philadelphia area for almost two years before coming here. We rent. And I'm here with my two boys and dh (no pets).

We live in a very rural area. We own a single wide on land (looked at the difference between renting and owning and it seemed silly to rent when owning was cheaper, which I know isn't the case in a lot of areas of the country). My dh and our 2 girls live here with me and we have visitation with my oldest dd.

My mil and fil live next door, next door to them is my gmil, and next to them is dh's aunt and uncle and cousins.

I live in Western Pennsylavnia, about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pa in the Mon Valley. We are calling it home for right now, we've been here four about 12 years now. We own our 4 bedroom home. It's on the edge of of the downtown of a small town. We are within walking distance to the bank, post office and a small grocery.

We live in a rural community of 2000 people. Pretty peaceful here!

WE live in the "town" though just a block from school, 4 blocks from the store and 1-3 blocks from all the eating places. No stoplights, just signs... NO gated communities..

I live with my Dh of 9 years and my 3 kids. WE own our home and we like it here. My family all lives within 5 miles.

We live in NC just north of Charlotte in Hickory. I live with dh and ds. Dd comes down to visit from time to time (when ever it's good for her dad) :irked:
We own a 3 bedroom house in what is considered the suburbs. It has a 8ft tall fence around the whole back yard that was here when we bought it... but the dog still manages to get out some how. There are cows behind the houses across the street, and we are in town limits.

We have one dog, a bearded dragon and 2 cats. One of the cats we are trying to find a home for. So if anyone wants a 3 month old kitten just let me know :lol

We had a ferret but she mysteriously died last night. :gloomy:

Where do you live (urban, rural, suburbs etc)? We live in the suburbs in western WA. It used to have small town feel but its being built up very quickly!

How long have you lived there? 7 years in this house

Do you own your home? yep, but planning on selling.

Who lives with you? DH, DD, DS, 1 dog (a pug) and 2 kitties (1 elderly himalayan, 1 long-haired calico that thinks she's a dog)

We had plans to finish remodeling our home and move to some acreage next spring. Actually right around when the baby is due :lol I'm not quite sure what we will do now. I'm thinking it would be best that we just focus on finishing the remodeling and then put the house on the market AFTER the new little one gets here. That way I'm not dealing with chaos at 9 months pregnant or trying to nest in a new place that needs a remodel. I have a thing about my house being in great order for me to be comfortable giving birth. So if we have finished the remodel here by April I probably would really like that. I'm a little freaked about the idea of trying to sell our home and move with a newborn, a 2 yo and a 4yo :dizzy:

mefheitz, you're really close to me (relatively speaking)! I couldn't tell from your siggy line but are you a homebirther? I was going to interview a midwife down that way (there are no homebirth midwives in Pittsbugh).

MissAnnThrope, I've been to Hickory (a few years back). I half expected you to say that you were from Jim Thrope PA. I have a colleague/friend who grew up there and opened up a chiro practice. I wouldn't be surprised if your chiro was him because supposedly there aren't many in town. By the way, sorry to hear about your ferret.:o

I live in the suburbs of Sacramento, California, about an hour and a half northeast of San Francisco. DH and I own a one-story, three-bedroom house and have lived there for almost three years now. We share our home with one dog (German Shepherd), one blind parrot (Orange-winged Amazon), and two cat brothers (American short-haired tabbies).

MissAnn, I'm so sorry to hear about your ferret :(

Well... I live in a college town in NORTHERN ARIZONA, and I'm an education major. So... with those hints you can figure it out. :lol If not, ever heard of a little thing called "Pluto"? :wink
Cost of living is is terrible, especially for a college town. Hubby and I are currently living in a one bedroom apartment, walking distance from the university. No washer or dryer, and the best model of a dish washer we have is my husband. :lol
We can't wait to move... we've narrowed it down to Oregon, Kansas, Idaho, Washington, Virgina and Texas. These are the states he can get work in after he graduates.

I live in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. It's the fifth largest city in NL, with about 200,000 inhabitants. We live in a neighborhood on the north side of town, which is kind of like its own little village. So we have the benefits of "small town" life with a city center 15 minutes away.

I'm American, my DH is Dutch. We have three kids: DD (15) from my first marriage; she has terminal brain cancer. DS (8) and DD (6) are ours together; they're 19 months apart. DD#1 is a real American girl; she was 10 when we moved here. DS and DD#2 are totally Dutch, though they were born in the US and spoke English when we moved here. (Well, DD#2 was only 18 months, so she didn't say much yet :).) Now Dutch is very clearly their native language.

We own our home, which is a standard Dutch rijtjeshuis, or townhome. Almost everyone here lives in one; freestanding homes are very expensive. We've lived here for 5 years.

Where do you live (urban, rural, suburbs etc)? Three exits north of the 35W bridge that just collapsed. Urban, but old Minneapolis neighborhood -feels far from the city.

How long have you lived there? 10 years this Fall.

Do you own your home? Yes, a three bedroom storey and a half, brick. Nice yard where we grow lots of 'maters and pertaters, and have started an asparagus patch (we'll see how that goes!)

Who lives with you? DH, married one year, together 8. DS 2 yrs 4 months. 2 cats, one blue point siamese that might just be retarded, and a barn cat who thinks he's a dog...or a baby....depending on his mood.

Thanks, willemsmama. (Willem is a very Dutch name, by the way :). How did you pick it?)

I don't want to turn this DDC into a big downer with my daughter's illness, but then again, it's a big part of what I'm going through during this pregnancy, like m/s or other things we have to deal with. So I want to include it here, but I'm afraid of taking over threads on totally different topics because everyone feels horrible after reading my posts. KWIM?

So I'll just say here that I really appreciate all the empathy people have shown when I've mentioned the cancer, and I will continue to appreciate it, even if I don't post a thank you (because I don't want to hijack the thread).

I'm also going to post this in a new thread, I think, just to make sure everyone reads it and no one thinks I'm ignoring them when they respond.

MissAnnThrope, I live only about an hour away from you, in the NC mountains. We're in a college town and live within walking distance to campus. Right now, we're renting a house. In December, we will be moving more toward Raleigh (Chapel Hill), and we'll be renting an apartment in a residential area about 2 miles from UNC-CH.

So far, It's just me, dh, ds, and our two dogs.

Where do you live (urban, rural, suburbs etc)? We live smack-dab in the middle of very urban Los Angeles, in a community called Atwater Village (part of the city of LA; for ease of navigation, planning, etc. the city is divided into several official communities). Our street, however, is all single-family homes, duplexes, and triplexes, so it *looks* like Suburbia USA. ;-)

How long have you lived there? We moved here in March from West Hollywood (which is NOT part of the city of Los Angeles, but along with Beverly Hills, is an incorporated city completely surrounded by the outermost border of Los Angeles). My husband and I are both LA natives; I grew up pretty near this neighborhood, while he spent his formative years living in the hills *above* Beverly Hills. Very different backgrounds. ;-)

Do you own your home? 12.8% of it. The rest is still owned by Countrywide Home Loans. ;-) It's a wonderful 4-bedroom house with a bonus room and a family room. The backyard is pretty small, since it's a one-story house and therefore takes up a lot of the lot, but we've got a nice play structure out there at least. We plan to turn the bonus room into a master bathroom, which would give us two full baths (right now we really have 1.5 baths, because the shower in the back bathroom has a leaking pan and we can't use it, but haven't bothered to fix it since we may tear out that bathroom altogether once we remodel).

Who lives with you? DH, DS (3 years), and my cat (15 years). Plus, lots of spiders, and possibly a couple of skunks under the house.... we know they've visited, but I don't know if they're crashing there. ;-)

I live in a suburb of New Orleans and have lived here since 1998. We own our house, it's a 3 bedroom house with a great yard. We are still renovating (it was flooded in Katrina) and will hopefully finish before the kids go off to college.:lol

Its just my family living here and we have a cat that sometimes likes to visit.

Hey April, I lived in Chapel Hill for years and years. Went to UNC-CH (undergrad and grad), then stuck around afterward. It's a fun little town!

Is one of you going back to school?

I live in a small (8,000 residents, including students) college town in northern Ohio, in a four-bedroom house with a great vegetable garden in the backyard. We have a 2 1/2-year old dd, a middle-aged cat, and an aged house rabbit.

We've lived here 3 years (moved in when pregnant with dd) and own our home.

Sadiejane, I was just in the Netherlands and loved it. Especially Texel. We rented bicycles and rode all over the island. The Netherlands are so wonderfully child friendly. And I fell in love with kwark... Oh so yummy.

We are in New England, Southern New Hampshire...an hour north of Boston.
We've lived here for...hmmmmm, I think 5 years. We own a 4 bedroom house, dh, me, ds 4 and dd 2, w/our 2 cats(1 ragdoll'ish, and a 1 tortoise short-haired), and our dog(Jack Russel/Rat Terrier). It feels rural, :lol but I don't think we are considered that. It takes us at least 10-15 minutes to get anywhere, but more like 15-25. There is no such thing as "running out" for milk, etc...more like, be back in 45 minutes. :lol

Where do you live (urban, rural, suburbs etc)?

Tiny town in a rural area, but we spend a lot of time at my in-laws' house in the country and on my family's farm. However, we're 20-30 minutes from a large, struggling, blue-collar city.

How long have you lived there?

With the exception of about six years of college, we've lived here our entire lives. We come from "old families" here, so everyone knows our life stories and family histories, LOL. My DD is the 8th generation of my family to live here.

Do you own your home?

Yes, a 129 year old renovated farmhouse.

Who lives with you?

There's me, DH, our 3-year-old DD, and two cats.

Do you own your home?

Yes, and we "fixer-uppered-it." Well, actually the bank still owns a majority of it.

Who lives with you?

DH, DS (almost 1 year old!!!), and the new embryo! No pets. 3 semi-alive houseplants.

We live in the 'burbs of a small city in southwest VA. We have lived here nearly 3 years, but I moved here originally with my parents right before 11th grade, and they still live here. We own and have been in our house a little over 2 years (we lived with my parents for the first 9 months we were back in town!). It's me, DH, DD, 2 Labradors and a cat. We're 3-3 girls-boys so we sometimes jokingly refer to this baby as the tiebreaker. :wink

Where do you live (urban, rural, suburbs etc)?

Suburbs of a very large city in the hot hot hot Southwest. We are right in the middle of a subdivision--the only things close enough to walk to are McD's and 7-11. However, Target, Starbucks and a mall are within 10 minutes driving distance.

How long have you lived there?

2 1/2 years. Moved here from SoCal.

Do you own your home?

Yes. 4-bd, 2-ba with a *pool*--an absolute must-have in the summer here!

Who lives with you?

DH, 2 DDs and a silly old cat. Before we moved, we had BIL and Gma-IL living with us too. Now it's just us.

Ah yes, kwark and vla, those delicious Dutch contributions to the dairy world. Kwark--no relation to the elementary particle--is often likened to cottage cheese, but it's much, much better. It's a kind of creamy yogurty, puddingy stuff, and it comes in lots of flavors. Lemon is my favorite.

Vla is basically pudding in a milk carton, also in countless different (and sometimes seasonal) flavors.

I've never been to Texel, but I've been to Ameland and Schiermonnikoog (one of our favorite vacation destinations, so quiet and non-touristy, and no cars!). (These are all islands off the northern coast of the Netherlands.) What brought you to NL?

I live in a suburb of the capital city of the densest state in the US. It is half way between the largest city in the US and the fifth largest city. However, I am also about 5 miles from several farms, 35 miles from the ocean and 100 miles from the Appalachian Trail.

It is an old suburb, where the houses were all built between 1910 and the 1950s. Our house is one of the newer ones. The sidewalks start and stop at random points on the street, depending on when the house behind it was built. But everyone just walks in the middle of the street.

We’ve lived here almost three years. We bought our house here, 65 miles from where we currently work, because it was the nearest town with homes in our price range. It is just me and DH (and our little bean) here now.

Amsterdam, which is the capital of The Netherlands. We don't live in the dead center, but we're only about an 8 minute bike ride from the very center.

How long have you lived there?
We've lived here since August 2005, when DD was 3 months old.

Do you own your home?
Yes. For a week at the beginning of next month we'll even own two because we're moving around the corner. We'll get the new house at the end of August and turn the current one over on September 10th.

Who lives with you?
DD and DH, who is a Dutch citizen but grew up in England.

We are in suburban Atlanta in a very suburban area. A subdivision neighborhood with cookie cutter houses. Its not too bad, but I do wish we could walk more places. We moved here about 16m ago, from around 30 mins away, so we could shorten DH's commute. We own the home, love it for the most part, but we do want to finish out the basement, so DH can move his office downstairs and so I can have a bathroom for the kids on teh same level as the backyard. I live with DH, DD, DS and our 2 cats and one dog.
