This isn't exactly about parenting, but I'm not sure who I should be asking for references, and I know a lot of you ladies live in south Mpls and various parts of St Paul.

We're starting to seriously consider buying our first house before the rates get too high again. I'm not planning to work once this baby comes and my husband's still a student, so we're not exactly brimming with mortgage dollars. We do have a decent down payment due to parental generosity back when the market was soaring. For the amount we're able to pay every month, our choices are going to be pretty limited, and I figure a good real estate agent who can lead us to the hidden steals might be necessary to find a place. It seems like we can buy for the amount we currently pay for rent, and we're getting tired of dealing with landlady weirdness. I'd love to live near Minnehaha Park or within walking distance of one of the Mpls lakes, but any safe neighborhood (in Mpls, St Paul, or first ring suburbs) with friendly people would be doable, as long as it's on a busline. We're a one-car household, and dh has to drive to Shoreview every day.

Does anyone have any agents or advice for me? I think you can email me through the PM's here, or amyrobynne@hotmail.com works too if you don't want to post here. Help!

I'll see if the agent who helped us find our house is still around. She was really great. Will PM you when I find out.

my stepMIL is an agent, but if she wasn't family i prob wouldn't like her as much as i have to now, so i am glad that these mommas have some names for you.
(and she isn't THAT bad, so if you need to get her name, i can give it to you...she is just a bit brash and pushy, which are perhaps good traits in a real estate agent...)

The house next to us is going on the market soon!
It is located in the lovely Corcoran neighborhood (between Lake and 35 st, Cedar and Hiawatha ave). We love our heighborhood. It is just 4 blocks to the new midtown market, and the YWCA! Less than a mile to the LRT, and just off of Hiawatha for easy access to 35w north. We have a tight knit block, full of helpfull people, who don't get too bent out of shape about yards!!
