Are you in the Twin Cities?
Well, then you have found your tribe! Despite our diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and interests, two things bond us together: living in the coldest state on earth...and the love for our children which warms us. The weekly tribe thread begins anew each saturday. Watch for the new thread on the main Minnesota/Wisconsin board.
Some of the individuals who post here meet weekly. If you are interested in attending a get together, please post your interest on the thread or send any one of us a pm. We welcome with open arms and minds the input of all parents, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, political view, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, etc.

ok, so i said i hoped to get to SG, but it is looking like a slimmer and slimmer possiblity as time passes this morning...
feeling tired (up too late scrapbooking and too early due to LOUD cat) and unmotivated and need to get stuff done.
excuses, excuses, i know...
so i hope to see ya'll in a few Sats for the July Bash, if not before then!
love to you all!
hope you enjoy the weekend, where ever you are, and esp if you are in LA!
(they must be rocking out there, as no one has popped in...)

Good Morning Mamas!
I have two hands free! Jim is holding the still sleeping babe (who was up until MIDNIGHT...ugh) I'd wake baby I, but he has his one month check up at noon, which will include 1 vaccine, so he will surely wake up then....
News on this end...well, bedtimes are wearing us out. "Baby I" decided that 11 or 12 was a better time to go to bed vs. 8 or 9....his big brother is now back in his own bed and room! I just put my foot down and I feel a lot better. DH has taken over that night time routine!!!
I think Baby I is colicky at night -- you know lots of intermittant crying, burping, passing gas, eating, etc for about 2 hours between 8 and midnight.
Anyone have any advice?
KJ - hope the rest is going well!
Monday mama's, plan on seeing you all on Monday afternoon
St. Paul Playgroup mama's -- plan on making that too, but we nap from 2-4, so we'll arrive late. Any interest in extending it to 5:30 or so?
Browneyedone - surgery went okay and you are scheduled for more? Do call or stop by anytime.
Nostrow! Hang in there! Not much time left! Rest well.
DAAM -- starting to do some consulting research work, just have no idea how much to charge! Nice pickle to be in!! Called my old research professor to get his advice, as well as calling around for some quotes from research firms.
Gotta run, Baby I is waking!

Aaahhhh! My driveway looks sooooo much better! My neighbor does awesome work! I sat outside and watched with kids while all the pouring and smoothing went on. Holy cow, concrete is an art form! Now to keep everyone off it till tomorrow??????
no SG for us as I thought last night. I should be out hanging laundry or weeding the garden. Instead I'm thinking about bringing the kids to the Karl Oscar festival in town :p They have pony rides and a petting zoo. The big parade is tonight. Oh, maybe they'll give out more free DQ coupons. Yum.
Poor dh tanked his knee last night helping grade for the concrete.
He can barely walk today and is, of course, also on call.
So I'm keeping off his feet unless he gets a call. I would make him stay off totally for part of today but we can really use the money.
Now if I could clone myself since I now have HIS chores as well as mine. Why do I see my garden not getting weeded?
Brown- Don't stress mama, we're all sending healing vibes!
Saramama- Sounds like you're enjoying babe #2. No advice for you about gassy time. W was that way too but from 5-9. I was always home by 4:30.lol
Ok, my own guilt is getting to me! Off to accomplish something.

My babe has arrived! Genevieve Avalon was born July 3rd 2003 at 11:29 pm. She weighed 6 lbs 5 oz and was 20 inches long. So far all is well she's a perfect baby! BFing is going well too. Df is home for 2 weeks to help out. And I've been recovering fairly fast despite another 4th degree tear-ouch!
:) Hi mommas. What a gorgeous day it is! We have been up at the park and out and about, but *still* did not make it to SG.:guilty Hope all the mommas and babes there had a good time...
SaraMama~ Thanks so much for posting that info for Real Simple on the other thread! Maybe we should put it on the main discussion boards as well...? My letter to the editor is in and my subscription cancelled.:thumb Sorry little I. is gassy for you! I think all three of mine had their set fussy/gassy periods each day, although Alec was *extremely* colicky.:bawl Hopefully it and the later sleep time will both pass soon. :hearts
Roarzilla~ CONGRATULATIONS!!! Did you birth at home? Sounds like everything is going well-- except for your poor tear! Yikes!!:eek Hope you have been soaking in some sitz baths.
Brown~ Let me know if you need anything for your upcoming surgery. :hug 's to you.
KJ~ Hope you and Cha are having a blast at the hotel!
Darn! Wish I had last week's thread handy, as I am sure I am forgetting lots...:duh
I did want to remind everyone that KJ's momma and baby blessingway is a week from today, so if you haven't r.s.v.p.'ed yet, if you could that would be great. If anyone didn't get the evite, you can pm me for details.
One more thing: Sonny and I and the kids are going to Quebec the first week of October. I am hoping that my niece can come stay here and take care of our doggies, cat, fish, and salamander:wild; just wondering if anyone else would be interested? Will pay a fair price and stock up the fridge for whomever.:D
Okay, all done now.:blah
Love to everybody!

Welcome deb! There is a St. Paul playgroup, but I have not yet been. I plan to go soon, but I'll let one of the St. Paul mamas fill you in!
Congratulations Roarzilla! What a beautiful name for a beautiful babe! I am so sorry about your tear. ~~HEAL WELL!~~
Willows, I'm not sure if anyone did sg today...bet it was quiet with our travelin' mamas gone. I'm pretty lonely with those travelin' mamas gone. :book :W :shrug Guess I am already used to the two blondies coming around for friendship, love, swordfights, dress up and coffee. :love
Well, there are four huge and mean@ss racoons outside my house tonite so the cat stays in. I was wondering why Mr. Predator Fisk has sometimes been so hesitant to go out...those big furry brutes about ate the neighbors dog...what a scene!
I am absolutely dyin' to know how the gathering is going...waiting on my update...tappin' toes...but don't want to call and annoy the party timers!
kd sorry we missed one another today! I wish we could have done the park!
Summerlover, I sure hope the lead clean up and all hell associated with it come to an end very very soon. Thinking of you!
Saramama, how did the shot go?
Resting mamas, keep up the relaxing.
Batty, I need to see those scrap books sometime! Sounds like you are the queen!
Okay, off to research stuff...google google google...

roarzilla--congrats!! welcome wee babe! how is the bug sis doing!
welcome deb! we do meet in MPLS on Sat AMs, so PM a momma here if you want the details!
won't be at kj's, as DH works so have no kid care...
ohlala Quebec, sounds like fun!
sara--i hear you on that colic thing. i don't think we had official colic here, but both kiddos went through that fussy time of day about 5PM for about a month each...
brown--i am sure the house must be lonely with mommas in LA and kiddos up norther...and all too soon those boys will be roaring all over the place again!
obviously never made it to SG yesterday...took 3 bags of stuff to the used kids stuff store and then we went to play at a great playground in hopkins. met a totally cool mom there, who is from S MPLS but was in hopkins watching a friend's DD. then back to here to weed and grill...
DAAM--went to the Basillica Block Party last night, totally spur of the moment. my MIL had won two tix at a silent auction at her church, and my SIL and BIL were planning on going. but then BIL was on a tough lock call and didn't get done in time, so SIL and i went. (poor BIL was still on the call when we got back from the show about 11PM!) so great to see the Jayhawks and even better to spend some time with Julie! she graduated from Denver U in june and just returned to the TC and is trying to find a job and an apt...not having too much luck either way. but she will find something! it is so nice to know she is here to stay and isn't rushing back to CO as soon as her break is done!
well, off to an engagement party this aft. my stepMIL's son proposed to his girlfriend last month, on their 2 1/2 yr anniversary. so we will be over there, enjoying their new inground pool and food that i didn't have to prepare!

Good afternoon ladies! Just dropping in quick before I head off to take my daily nap!:zzz
SaraMama - I know lots of moms from LLL that found their babies were allergic to dairy. They usually had milk for dinner or ice cream for dessert and that would make the baby very uncomfortable. I would take a good look at your diet and see if eliminating something helps. Good luck! By the way, if it is dairy, you'll want to cut it out completely and probably for a year or so.
roarzilla - congrats on your new babe!!!
deb - :w
helen - glad your d-way turned out great. You rock, lifting all that rock!
batty - concert sounded great, hope the party is too!
brown - oh my! I hate animal fights, sounds scary!
Welp, I got some flannel wash clothes made last week when my sister was here and they turned out great. I found some really cute fabric, so now I'm bummed she left and took her surger cuz I wanna make more!
DAAM - We are still struggling w/ bedtime here. Dh watched Cora Thurs. night last week and let her cry herself to sleep - she cried for an hour. He's fed up with her pushing us around at bedtime and feels that's the best way to end it. Of course, I do not agree! But, I'm not really sure what would work and he's certain his way would, so I need some advice here ladies. Basically, I'm the one always putting her to bed, so I do it how I want. But I'm getting exhausted w/ the two hour bedtime routines and know I won't be able to do it when the baby comes! Dh is only willing to help if he can do it his way.....MEN!

Back from the hotel. It was great and Ann and family came one night and swam and ate and then Kelley and family came last night and ate and swam. It was really nice to be there, I begged dh that we stay tonite too and he said no way. Anyway ended up even though our house is not smelly from staining it is noisy as they are still putting up the ceiling as I type. I know I need to be grateful that he cares about our house and is trying to get the space done before the new baby but it is stressful.
Oh Smeta I am sorry Jerry does bedtime with Charlie for the last year, when he was night weaned and he never cried more than 2 minutes. They do a routine, have a snack, put the dog out, change diaper, kennel the dog (and in the winter, fill the humidifier) put on pj's, brush teeth, read a few books, turn the light off, tell a story. Often I join in bed when they are on book number three and sometimes I tell the story. Our story is usually a recount of the day, including what Charlie ate, who he saw, what we did etc.........It is so cute cuz usually before he falls asleep, he says, holdit my hand you guys. holdit my hand. Anyway eventually I think he will get a routinte but our lacataction consultant recommended not to let him cry more than 5 minutes and like I said it was never more than 2 minutes. So blessings to you honey. And you are smart taking naps. I rarely do.
roarzilla, welcome new baby
nostrow, how are you? you will be getting a phone call from at least one person who offered to make you a meal
batty, i have never been to the block party, have always had best intentions

Hey all want you to know that Style Council in Uptown still needs color models. So this means you can get a foil or a color for $15.00. Call 612-827-2547 if you are interested and book with Leah. I also know she especially needs models August 5,6 ,7 and 8th and I don't think there will be any charge for that.
"California Dreamin"...... WE'RE BAAA-CK!!!!
well, some of us. OliviasMama left this a.m., The Midget & I left around 4. One of us actually lives there now, the traitor, and then Cattrane is flying back tomorrow after spending tonite w/ Moon, and the Convertible Mamas left this aft but have another 36 hr drive in front of them (think "Thelma, Louise, Louise and Louise") and Natalia and Kat2 and their 2 grrrls are starting the same drive back sometime tomorrow. We ended up w/ 10 MN mamas, 1 Dad & 5 kiddos. wooo hooooo!

Glad to hear that MamaGathering was fun. I wish I could have gone. Hope they have another one in a year or two. Would love to see the pictures.
Brown - I see you're a Smokin' Hottie. Cute!
Roarzilla - congrats on the babe! Sympathy on the tear (though mine wasn't nearly as bad). Take it easy & love on that babe for me.
KJ - thanks for the cleaning spray info. Will have to go mix some up.
DAAM - Just heard an odd noise upstairs, went to check, and one of the cats was trying to maul G's wool diaper covers. I just treated them with lanolin for waterproofing, and she must like the smell. They're hidden now... hope I remember them instead of using the other covers which aren't nearly as cute.

Guess what went to the fire station today and on the machine my blood pressure was 129/66 and manually 130/74 and the manual was after charlie freaked out when a siren went off and was crying in my arms.
my normal has been like 124/74 or as low as 110/64. And highs that they were worried about were as high as 138/90, they say anytime it is past 30 above on the top or 15 above on the bottom when you got pregnant, they get worried. Anyway I am so happy don't know if the cure is calcium/magnesium, more protein, cucumbers, watermelon, berries, red raspberry leaf tea or no full moon. They say it is not bed rest cuz bed rest just gives you a rest, does not lower blood pressure just a rest. Anyway I am feeling very happy right now.
Hi, I thought I should introduce myself because I've been reading this thread for quite some time now. I feel like I should come out of hiding!
I live in Minneapolis with my partner who is pregnant with our first and due the beginning of January.
Since I'm not a mommy yet and am not even the one who is pregnant, I don't have much to contribute, but I do enjoy reading the posts and seeing what is going on around the twin cities for natural parents.
I did get some information on API and the Childbirth Collective meetings from Mamarsupial (thanks again for being so helpful!) some time back, and my partner and I do plan to attend some of those when we can work it into our schedules. But we've still got lots of time!
So, I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. Now if you see me lurking, you'll know who I am :)

Welcome Tracy - January babies rock!!! (& I think you probably do have a lot to contribute, it's cool you're here)
OK, also wanted to welcome new baby Roarzilla - congratulations on little G, and hope you are healing up and feeling better each day. Hope we get to meet her in person soon.
And welcome to deb 215 as well, thanks for linking your intro, that sure made it easy. We do get together quite a bit, although today was a bust when the skies opened up so dramatically just before noon! I would love to tag along w/ you at yard sales, etc as they intimidate me. And am also going to Creative Kid Stuff this week, have you gone yet?
Nostrow, hang in there, know what you are doing isn't easy.
Sara Mama - colic - ugh! poor babe (meaning YOU) and ok, poor baby I. too! Both the reds had it, 2nd one pretty badly till age 6 months. Am sure you have already researched it to death. I tend to agree w/ Smeta about the elimination diet, especially dairy, even though odds are that it's not related to what you're eating but instead to neurological immaturity - at least it's something to try. So frustrating when they can't tell you what is wrong and your heart aches for them. Here's what worked for The Midget, just in case it might help: constant movement walking up the stairs (yeah, I know) while singing the same song, white noise in the form of the "Mama Bear" from far away (yes, it's obnoxious but it really helped her, she still has the stupid thing), white noise in the form of an air cleaner, and a front pack worn by me and a sling worn by D. It was hell on us all, but those things did calm her and in retrospect I think if I'd completely cut out all dairy instead of reducing it, she might have been more comfortable. Good luck sweetie. My ped's excellent suggestion that helped: ALWAYS proceed in the same order when baby is distressed, whatever your order is. That way they know you are eventually going to get to it. Like, nurse, diaper, check for toes, fingers caught in clothes, sing, walk stairs, burp, turn over on back, add clothes, remove clothes, stroke cheeks - whatever is in your arsenal of tricks. She told us to always do them in same order and it actually was calming to M to know eventually we would stumble across what she needed and she could predict when we'd finally discover it. Gives the baby a sense of control. Hang in there
DAAM - I think I have pneumonia, went back to dr today, doesn't know if it's viral, infectious or the 3rd kind - am NOT contagious no matter what. Have already finished up those time release antibiotics last wk so no sense in taking more right now, just lots of asthma drugs. Summerlover, have joined your high blood pressure club due to the prednisone. The LA mamas were getting sick of hearing that droning nebulizer! (I think I really needed a dancing elf in her pajamas twirling ribbons)

hey tracy! welcome! (again ;) )
sara mama - do you the have the infant massage book by vimala mcclure? it has some wonderful remedies for colic (sun and moon, bicycle, etc.) if you're not doing them already, they might be worth a try. my copy was loaned out to a friend, but i can try and wrangle it back before wednesday so you can borrow it. it really helped with e (not colic per se, but definate gas bubbles and what not)>

Batty - I am so jealous! Did you get see the Suburbs? Glad you had a great time!!!
MAMA's - welcome back! Loved the photos!
CAMPERS -- anyone up for the 2nd weekend in August? SE Minnesota that is not so buggy as the rest of the state (I hate mosquitoes!!)
DAAM -(s)
No vaccine for #2 on Saturday, but he gained 2 pounds in one month!!! Since then he has been less colicky at night. This morning he woke up and stayed up vs. nursing and going back to sleep until Noon (we should all be so lucky, no?)
Thank you for all the wonderful advice....we do follow a routine and SUPI, I'd love to borrow that book if you round it up sometime this week.
#1 is doing well - going to be an awesome cook! The days Jim doesn't work I get to cook to my heart's content! #1 and made the Italian version of crepes that were layered with pesto (that he helped make as well) and paremsan chese. Oh so yummy and rich as the crepes were each pan friend in olive oil!
We also made awesome focaccia (what I'm bringing to all Mama gatherings from now on, so beware!) and today we made Italian country bread (just pulled it from the oven -- kind of laboring the AC, but....) Can you all tell that I LOVE my new kitchen?!
My uncle and aunt are in town from Boston. Jim and I picked them up at the airport with BOTH cars as they are big and don't travel light, plus they brought a whole cooler of lobsters and clams. Big seafood orgy at my parents...but I have to say I really don't like seafood (so I'm vegie, which is known, but I have to say it's not like a BLT which I do occasionally crave) But the company was wonderful. They are coming to our house for lunch on Sat -- oh and yes we'll be making focaccia and polenta (these are my Italian relatives after all!)

Dh put both the girls to bed tonight. After spending 3hrs. riling them up. I told him he was handling bedtime after he and S taught W to scream. Loudly. Now I have a feeling that's going to come back to haunt him.lol As if the munchkin doesn't know enough? She has already figured out velcro, zippers AND snaps. Willowsmama, speaking of DDDDC, someone got you, too. Hee hee hee...
W has just learned to scream now? Lucky you (or your lucky ears). Gracie has been shrieking for a week or more now. Mostly when she's tired, but she pulls it out when Daddy comes home, too. You know, "Shriek! I missed you so much! Shriek!" It's still funny, but cute. At least DH still loves her after she pooped on him. :eyes She's so bouncy and wiggly that her diaper came unfastened and then when she let loose (been saving since yesterday morning. Uh oh...) it came out the leg hole of her cover. Grr... the freshly washed wool cover. They really are a pain to maintain, but keep her bum so cool and rash-free.
On tomorrow's agenda: learn to use diaper pins instead of Snappi, then teach DH how to use fitteds (he will NOT deal with pins).

I am bummed.
We asked my brother 7 months ago to be the godfather to our new babe. My brother is a conservative Catholic and even a former seminarian. Anyway he is coming to visit this weekend and said he will not go to church with us cuz our church is too liberal. I am struggling, cuz how can he be the godfather and stand up for our baby being baptized as he feels our chuch is something he used the word heathens. DH who never gets upset is more irritated with my brother than I am. Why does this have to happen a few weeks before the babe. Bummer.
Oh and when I mentioned to my sister in law, who will be the godmother (who is a born again and homeschools) that if we could afford it I would send our kids to the catholic schools, said, why would you do that and screw them up for life?
So I am sandwhiched between these two views for godparents.
Greater concern, I am to have an ultrasound tomorrow to check size of babe and assure head is down, (again Charlie was breech) and I decided to call midwives to ask what size would make you question us doing a VBAC and they said greater than 9 pounds we would start c-section consultation. I am like okay Charlie weighed 9.15 and why is this coming up now? They acted yeah vbac until like four weeks ago and now after hiring a doula and all they are telling me this.

ACK! I was DDDC'ed! Jessikate, why do I have a feeling you had something to do with this?:scratch
W learned to scream awhile ago but she would scream in the library. So I would tell her sshh library is quiet. She quit. :p Dh & S taught her to do it and get attention. Usually when DH comes home it's DDDAAAAAAA! followed by a big raspberry.lol Then for an hour or so she trail behind him everywhere going da? da? when he gets up without her.
Kaje- I'm so sorry to hear that! I would think you're family would be supportive especially right now! All parents have differing views on schooling, but I don't understand being so disapproving of anothers. Maybe it's time to look for other godparents? you really want someone supportive and understanding.
Roarzilla- Congrats on the new little one!
Dh had his work truck break down yesterday. We had to go get him from 35W. In rush hour. eeww! Then we all got up at 6:30 to send 2 1/2 hrs. in the car, driving him to work and back home. double eewww! Off to go eat! I'm starving.

(Okay, so I'm really bad at secrets and not too subtle. Oh, well.)
Ms. Wakey Girl has found her feet, and now when she needs to nurse at night she wakes completely to play with them first. Doesn't matter that I wake as soon as her breathing changes. Spent 3 hours trying to get her to go back to sleep last night (11:30-2:30), then she woke for the day at 7. AARGH! At least she's napping now (for the moment, anyhow)
KJ, I'm sorry about your brother. That's really rude of him to bring that up now instead of when you asked him. Honestly, did he think you were going to baptize the babe in a more conservative church? At least your SIL seems cool about your views.
And I'm sending smallish baby vibes your way. :dust (Baby under 9# dust :) )
Ooh, SaraMama, I think I could use some cooking lessons from you. Everything sounds yummy, and I don't know any good vegetarian dishes. We eat too much pizza and hot dogs here (i.e. DH "cooks" a lot). Stir-fry last night was good, but I put way too much cornstarch in the sauce and it was glop-city. That'll teach me to just shake it in from the box instead of using a spoon. Oops.
Screwy cat's in the kitchen playing with a mint leaf he pulled out of the compost bucket. What would he be doing if it was catnip (not that we can keep that growing around here with all the people who let their cats roam :cuss)
Okay. Enough rambling. Should make the house look less like a horrid packrat slob lives here.

My grandparents are coming up tomorrow to stay the week! :thumb It's the first time they've been up since DS was born w/out any other relatives around, so they're pretty excited to have all three of us to themsleves. Should be a fun week!
My poor kitty has a bladder infection and informed us by peeing all over the basement, including the pile of winter jackets I was planning on washing. :crying Now she's on antibiotics and I'm scrubbing the basement floor. At least we caught it before she moved her peeing upstairs!

what a day. in the last twenty four hours, i found out that...
1. my brother and sister in law are miscarrying...
2. one of my best best girl friends just got her period after her last attempt at iui (insemination) and has decided to adopt instead of trying any more infertility treatments...
3. my aunt and uncle have been asked to foster the newborn, addicted babe of my uncle's sister. if they say 'no' (which i doubt) they babe would be sent to foster care.
why is it that those who so badly want children and value them are faced with such heartache...and yet so many bring children into this world without thinking? i told my mother we would take in this child if my aunt and uncle are unable (not that i would be able to, since the child would be placed into the foster care system in ohio), but how could they not? the last day has been filled with such grief over lost hopes for a child...to hear about a child on methadone makes my throat tight and my heart ache.

my sisters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
let me say that i have NO time to read the posts, so if any of you had news (good or bad), i'm sorry i missed it.
those of you who did not make the trip west...you were talked about and thought about, and missed very much.
dh is now convinced that we are the most insane bunch of freaks he's ever met. he was going on and on about it then said in astonishment 'but snow looks so normal'. poor man was overwhelmed and out of his element lol.
am convinced m and b will grow up and have their own theatre company, where they write, direct, produce and star in every show.
also learned that hugos, catt, whacka, and curvie should be chaperoned every moment of every day, that snow is more generous than anyone i've ever met(hope you're feeling well sister), that i love my husband, that my son is in love with miss n, that miss n's dd is a dirt magnet of the highest order, that the world is full of more colors, more laughter, more love, and the need for more tylenol...when i am with my tribe.
snow...thanks for taking pics! what is with that angle though? rofl makes me look like i'm 9mos pg!!!!!

KJ - do they have to do an ultrasound to determine if the baby is head down? A skilled nurse, midwife or doc should be able to feel for the placement of the baby. I hope they don't talk you into anything you don't want or need. Do you have a birthplan in place for the hospital?
I'm curious to see what they say about the size of the baby. My son was also 9.15 at birth. When I was in labor with him and first went to the hospital, they initially said he would be about 7.5 lbs, and then they kept going up from there. I'm a bit nervous about the size of this baby. Are you taking any Evening Primrose Oil? I need to start that again as I know this is what kept me from tearing with my 9.15 baby.
Good Luck

Autumn sorry about your sad day. Thinking of you!

KJ - what was I thinking? :bang Boy, did I misread that post. (Although her comment on Catholic school screwing people up fits with a lot of people I know, basically everyone I know who went to the Catholic school in Ashland)
Snow, I missed that you were sick. I hope you're feeling better. Was it pneumonia? Ick.
I'm getting better at this food thing... marinated portobello mushrooms in garlic, thyme, parsley, olive oil, and pepper. Grilled them & served with a salad of yellow bell pepper, the lone zucchini from my garden, tomato, fresh mozzarella, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt & pepper. Tasty!
Anyone care to join me on a meal-planning thread? Will start it when I have 2 hands free to type. KJ - I'd love your peanut sauce recipe & some soup ideas.
Happy baby needs a fresh diaper & a walk.

Wow. Mamarsupial what a day. I hear you and wish I had the answers. Life is mysterious. You are so full of love to offer yourself to the child you mentioned. I will be thinking of all the above.
Moon I love and adore you...beautiful and joyful words! Next time...and when my babe is three and ready to roll without me for a few days...wait and see how much I need to be chaperoned! :eek :D
Evening Primrose...did if for me! Good thing, too...Blue was nearly a ten pounder and he was over a week early!
Alright Jessikate, when I have enough food in my house someday, I'll return the favor! (...hmmmm...hehehe) :moon

I am new to posting to this thread. my name is Kari I am 32 yrs old I live way up in the North country (Rush City) (DH) Travis is 31 yrs, ds#1 is Justin he is 12 yrs old, he is a special needs child he has a learning disability and has ADHD, ds#2 Nathan is now 20 months old he is my chatter box he loves to say HI and Bye bye see you.
Today we drive into the Cities and went shopping at Rosedale mall we got the little one some new shoes from Payless and we noticed this play area for small kids, so after we got Nathan's shoes we went down to see how it was and he loved it, both the boys loved it, Nathan got to slide down the slides and he crawled up the slide and slid down on his tummy, he looked like an inch worm, this was so great for him he is having a hard time right now cuz he has been having bad reactions to bug bites they swell up to the size of a siliver dollar coin so with having this play area in a shopping center was wonderful. I thought I would come and post this about this play area so if anyone lives near here they can take their kids here, they had a Tree that has slides down both sides, a small boat that kids can crawl into it had some tunnels the kids can crawl threw and it was all free.
I will stop rambling on I just thought I would post this so you ladies would know about it, we dont have anything like this up where we live so it was so cool to see this for kids to play on.

Welcome Kari.
I am not doing evening primrose or any cohoshes, because of the vbac my midwives and doula recommended that I do not do that. Even natural ripeners can cause uterine rupture. Smeta I have some of all of the above for you if you want me to bring on Thursday let me know. By the way 4 doulas will be at my baby blessing. I am blessed.
Today is our big day, ultrasound, more talk about VBAC and strep b. Test. Please keep me in your thoughts, my doula and Jerry are coming with. Edited to give my mama intuition, I think I am having a girl in July, not August and she will weigh less than 8 pounds. Okay there it is.

KJ--I think you will have another boy. But he'll be small(ish) & will be born in July.
Brown--SUCH a smokin' hottie!
Jessi & Willow--What is DDDDC?
And LOL! at Moon's poor, bewildered husband. I think Monkeypapa could relate. You'd think after 4 years he'd be used to women as crazy as I am!

:) Hey mommas. Hope everyone has been able to be outside today-- it is so nice out there (if you can escape the mosquitoes!:angry ). It has been a pretty busy week over here; have had Kenny and Philly everyday and have one of my other nieces and nephew in town (who I had not seen since mine and Sonny's wedding!). And yesterday we went to yet another nephew's bday party up at Linden Hills park-- the kids had a blast. I think weekday evenings must be a good time to go there if you want to beat the major crowds.:kewl
So...are all the traveling mommas back yet??? Sounds like you all had a great time; am waiting to hear more.:thumb
Snow~ You poor thing! I sure hope you feel better soon! What did the doc say?:hug
Speaking of sicknesses, how is A., Cattrane? Did he ever get any pox? Hope you all are well.:love
KJ~ So sorry for your family crud and for your midwife's comments! Let us know how it goes today.

Yeah, what is with these DDDDC's??? This makes very little sense to me.:tsk

At my prenatal today, my blood pressure was higher again so my bedrest was increased to two hours on my side, one hour up, two hours down again, etc. The ultrasound showed the baby is head down but they are somewhat concerned about the placenta degrading some and lack of fetal movement and tone. The lack of movement was bizarre for me cuz I feel lots of movement. But they felt another non-stress test was needed so we did that again too and a 1 hour appointment turned into three and I was so hungry so maybe that is why baby was not moving. They were not confident with the results, so I am having another ultrasound on Friday at the perinatal clinic to be monitored and most likely another non-stress on Monday.
My cervix is closed and I am 20% effaced. They also encouraged me to schedule a c-section for later if I go past forty weeks, which I could pick any date, so I picked August 14 which was my favorite Uncle Tom's birthday.
The fun news......looks like I will be having a 8.4 pound baby and the tech knows the sex so if I decide to call, I can.
Anyway it is hard to type on my side and I cried a bit today about my blood pressure, bedrest and all the hype but at the moment I am fine.
Katie didn't you celebrate your dad's birthday too or am I out of it, time to get up and make dinner, salad and a protein smoothie and if i have time I am making rhubarb crisp.

Kari - Welcome! Rush City, as in near Pine City? My inlaws live there so we drive by that exit all the time!
KJ - hope you are feeling better! Am thinking light thoughts for you.
All - I'm wiped, spent 3 hours picking organically raised raspberries this am with both boys. Way fun, but I'm pooped -- no "nap convergence" today, but at least I got to sleep in until 8:30.
We are teaching DS #1 that when he gets up he should play with his toys not wake me up, so every night I put out a toy (not a new one and nothing fancy) all set up on a box for him to play with...speaking of which, tomorrow's is a bowl of Cheerios and his stacking cups (he likes to pour them back and forth....)

Congrats Willows! Wowie...I just can't imagine having them so close, but then I see mamas doing it with seeming ease... You will be one of those mamas, I'm sure of it.
Sara, such a good idea to set out a toy. I am having these talks with Fish (get yourself some water...read a book), but Blue is usually up and body slamming Fish and I both first thing...and sometimes the morning disagreements between the boys come to blows as Blue is known for his unrelenting, "WAKE UP...MAMA! TIN! WATCH RAFFI! EAT SEE WEE OH! POOPA DA POTTY!" and if "TIN" does not rise to the commands Blue starts a whackin' and pounding...so different, these little souls of mine.
I'm gonna try the toy trick! He may be a bit to young, but worth a try!
...or maybe I could go to bed earlier and not park my @ss online so late at night. :o
KJ~ Do nothing. Stay off the phone and computer tomorrow. Sit on your birth ball. Get down on the floor with Charlie in a way that is comfortable for you. Eat well and feed him and talk quietly to anyone who crosses your life and diaper just one butt. Soon there will be two. Drink water. Rest. Nothing else.

Thanks Brown and all for support and concern. I feel like a big baby cuz I know there are some on total bedrest etc...And one friend of mine told me if I feel sorry for myself to go up to the hospital and bring someone on hospitalized bedrest muffins. But I think I am 1/2 sad cuz this is not how I thought I would spend my last month with Charlie and Jerry. I wanted to go fishing, pick berries...etc..I can't type cuz I am gonna cry...I know it will be okay and I think the other thing is I am worried cuz I know if it keeps going up I am looking a c-section and that bums me out. Okay positivie thoughts. I am going to playgroup a bit today and I am assured rest on the big bean bag by a few of the mamas.

Oh, KJ, you will come through this wonderfully. I feel you will have a wonderful VBAC birth for your little girl (I changed my prediction for you since I was wrong about SaraMama's babe...). However, if something should happen and you were to have another c-section, it wouldn't be the end of the world. You'd still have a beautiful and healthy babe at the end of it. You know I'm not belittling your preparations or your distaste for a repeat cesearean, just pointing out that even the most unpleasant things can have a positive side. :hug
DAAM: Now, why would someone steal a plant from my garden? There is an empty spot where one of my zucchini plants was. I can understand (sort of) stealing produce from a garden, but a plant?! If someone starts stealing diapers from the line, I'm going to go ballistic. I love line-drying diapers and don't want to have to start putting them in the dryer instead.

Jessikate- O.k. I confess. It wasI. My zuchinni was doing soooo poorly that last night I drove to the cities and stole yours. it was jealously that made me do it! Curse my black thumb.:p And if someone steals a diaper from your line, Iwill help come beat them with a dirty diaper!
I am, of course, kidding.:D I was too shocked last night to steal your zuchinni. I'd check nearby gardens and go steal it back!
Moon- You're so pretty! Snow is posting pics for all to see.lol
By my reckoning, I'd be due sometime in April. Willow will almost be 2, her b-day is in late June. Dh & I both were looking at the test going 'Whoa!:eek '. Don't get wrong we're both very happy, just shocked. It took forever for me to pregnant with Will. I think putting 8 yrs. between them had something to do with it?

Sara Mama - where o' where did you pick raspberries? I've been wanting to go organic raspberry pickin' but didn't know where to go?!
BTW, what type of newborn diapers are you using? I'm thinking I'm just gonna do prefolds, but I seem to remember that the covers got poop on them every time, so I thought maybe it's better to get kissaluvs or something....not that I can afford a whole collection of them!
We are working on getting Cora to fall asleep on her own. She usually cries a few minutes and then has to pee, whines, etc., but eventually stays quiet after I go in several times. Tonight she came out of her room and asked to read a story to herself, it was so darn cute! AND (I'm almost afraid to type it so I don't jinx it!) she has only awoken once for the last four nights. I'm so glad we're making some progress.
Enough about that. I just realized all my posts are about Cora's night waking/bedtime problems!
Looking forward to seeing most of you ladies on Saturday!

Smeta, we used prefolds on G as a newborn and very rarely had poo on the cover. I didn't care to just trifold the prefold and lay in the wrap (way too bulky for my taste). I would trifold the diaper, fan out the back a little, lay babe on diaper & bring folded part up between legs. Bring back around babe's sides and fasten with a Snappi (or pins if you're better at it than I). This was snug enough around her legs that it kept the poo off the cover about 97% of the time. Here's a good link for folding prefolds: Diaper Origami (http://www.punkinbutt.com/diaper_folding101.html)
SaraMama, how did you go about raspberry picking with an infant? I just can't see my munchkin cooperating for that long, but then again, she sleeps a lot less now than she did when she was a month old. Probably just answered my own question. Mmm... raspberries...
So to add to the drama of the day (see: stolen zucchini plant, above)... I was sitting on the front steps with Gracie this afternoon when a big silver Crown Vic pulls up and parks. This guy walks up, asks if I'm Jessica, intruduces himself as John X. I'm thinking, oh, my new neighbor's name is John - this must be him; and then he says "and I'm with the FBI". I would have loved to have seen the look on my face at that moment. It seems that last Saturday morning while I was at the drive up ATM at my bank, there was a robbery going on there! He wanted to know if I'd seen anything. Of course I hadn't, but wow! My first brush with felony (probably isn't, actually, but that's another story...).

what a day, Charlie slept till 11:20 and we had a relaxing morning. I went to Imago to drop stuff off and then came home and relaxed more before meeting three new Metro August preggie mamas and doulasarah. After a fun dinner, we decided to walk down to Edina Creamery to get ice cream before heading to the collective.
Anyway while walking, I twisted my ankle in a decorative tree thing, don't even know what it was. Anyway I fell flat on the sidewalk, knees first, then hands and then my tummy which bounced on the sidewalk. Geez....
Three firemen were parked right there, saw it happen and came to the rescue, first took my blood pressure, 200/110 and then they called an ambulance and then wanted me to stand up. I was like I don't want to go in an ambulance and I don't want to stand right now. Meanwhile Mpls Momma was like can she have some breathing room as I had three firefighters hovering over me. DoulaSarah asked them for a blanket so I could lie down on my side which brought my blood pressure down to like 160/97 and called my midwifes who said that I should go to Fairview to get checked out. So anyway DoulaSara drove me to Fairview where my doula and Jerry met us and we spent two hours with me on monitors and everything seems okay. I do have my ultrasound tomorrow.
Thank you DoulaSarah, I love you and sorry that you three gals had such a strange first meeting with me.

Hi All!
Smeta, you can pick berries here: Berries in Hugo (http://www.NaturaFarms.com/) a trek for you, but oh so good. I will also forward the email I received from them to you (lots of info) The berries were $1.50 / half pint if you pick a flat.
"I" slept through the whole thing in his stroller with a bug cover on it -- still got bitten by mosquitoes. "S" ran around and ate berries (oh to be 2!)
Congrats Spryte. Missing you. Will call soon.
Diapers - Smeta, I think you asked. This time I bought a load of size 0 on Ebay. You can use them once "I" grows out of them. I also have lots of covers and simply wash them a lot. I have lots of little prefolds too. Frankly I'm terrible and keeping the covers clean, so I don't worry about it!
Can't remember what else I was gonna say!! So I be†ter run!
Oh yeah, stolen Zuchhini plant? too funny (and sad too)

asher is SO happy with the car present B gave him... i don't even know where he came up with that, other than i told him before i left that B likes cars too. but hey, now he's making presents for B so no harm done :) and i can't get over how much fun i had with you guys!! i could have talked for a week... i still haven't heard your version of HowWeMet and you haven't heard my (sober) version of saturday night :D B is a charmer -- have you seen my neighbor totoro? those little spiders TOTALLY remind me of the black poofball things in the house. i was laughing at the airport because the first thing i did after having my scissors confiscated was head to the espresso stand...i am a caffeine junkie... ok all you people that told me moongloe and fam are faboo, you were right!
:love :love :love :love :love :love :love :love :love :love :love
//ravin' over... for now//
asher is applying CATS makeup at the moment...he's trying to decide whether to be jemima or another cat... he is definitely getting snow's money's worth outta this theatre kit :)
//more mamagathering stuff//
you guys wackadoo kicks some serious butt!!! wacka i've always felt like you were way easy to get along with and fun, but hot DAMN i had a blast with you! and i am SO IN AWE of your and curvie's ability to do full makeover in the rearview mirror... you guys all should have seen curvie and hugosmoma shrieking at being in LA...many times LMAO... it made me giggle every time! those two inspire serious sassiness... i cannot wait 'til pics of all the famous people on the strip get developed LOL - beastie boys have always been associated with road trips in my past, and now i have a whole new layer of hilarity and sleep deprived memories to add :love seriously if y'all ever want to experience california with the same excitement you had on trips when you were a kid, cram yourself in a small car and go 'cross the country with these three!
the gathering rocked, even though i managed to miss almost everything. so so bummed not to see local mamas cheerleading, and still feel it was unfair to have won a raffle prize (but really a Bad Cat t-shirt and a Dub Narcotic cd? totally had my name on it, heh)
N/N were gorgeous as usual, happy birthday rockin' chick! ~ oliviasmama it was so great to see you again!! now that i remembered i saw you before LOL
and SNOW....my goodness....you inspired us to actually get the heck out there when we were all thinking 'oh i won't really know anyone and don't know if i wanna spend the money' (well at least i was heehee)... you give so much and let me tell you it is not unnoticed- your generosity made it possible for days of giddiness to happen :D i still am a bit incredulous at having been in the proximity of artist women i have looked up to for a long time...it's like that after-summer-camp high you have for the rest of the summer....
//maybe i'm done now//
berry-picking sounds fun!
so jess is the FBI investigating your stolen zucchini??
congratulations helen!! weehaw! the four-and-ups in this tribe are so outnumbered by chubby baby bellies!!!
holy cow i cannot remember anything else and just want to go on and on about last week LOL
happy birthday H!!! last year right now i was sitting in portland oregon with a ribbon 'round my wrist trying to access the boards via my friend's account, and did just long enough to read about the birthday boy!!
welcome karebear! sorry i'm so crazy, i would like to say i'm not usually but i have a feeling i'd be outvoted rather quickly....
snow how are your lungs doing??? *my* lungs weren't thrilled to step off the plane into jello-heat ~ i hope you are feeling 1000% better, you deserve health and a vacation where beautiful grass-skirt clad cabana boys bring you iced tea and shade you with huge tropical leaves, and everyone is on time for everything :D

Gosh Cattrane, we all need that don't we????
Glad you had a good time! (okay understatement, but I'm tired!)

LOL - not gonna happen!
Cattrane is referring to my near constant whine on Sunday - "ummm, you guys? can we go???? ummmm I have to catch a plane..... guys???" tres obnoxious - and that was me, not Scot, honking the horn at N! heh!
Worked out fine tho, we had just the right amount of time at Venice Beach and then LAX was without a hitch as I wisely didn't wear my Code Pink button and set off the alarms for the return trip. Once was enough drama on Thursday - they were so sure The Midget was packing as well even tho she had cleared security before the alarms went off on me, we were quite *thoroughly* searched in Mpls.
Am still working on loading pics for all to see. Am trying to balance my time doing that and getting The Drama Queen packed for her mission trip which leaves at the crack of dawn tomorrow. She'll be working on a Lakota reservation in South Dakota for 8 days.
Did I mention that the next gathering will be in the Twin Cities next summer and that we'll need all of you fine mamas working on it?
Oh - and Moongloe and The Midget helped me swipe MAMA tattoos for all of you that couldn't join us in person. I'll bring a handful to SG tomorrow, or let me know if you want me to mail you one.
Willowsmama - hot damn womyn - you rock! yay for more babies especially if they're as adorable as your two girls.
Berry picking - yes, I want to do it. First Monday in August anyone?
Batty - tell us again where that cool park/swimming lake is by you and when we can all meet you and your kids up there.
Roarzilla, sounds like Mama's Dairy is doing quality work! yay G
M tells me she went swimming w/ Scribbler's E and Symbi's B today while I was working. (?) Q has been taking her to parks, the advantages of having a teen just occasionally make it worthwhile having to endure the drama of packing one for a trip. (she packs electronic stuff, I pull it out. I pack the *wrong* clothes, she yanks them out groaning, rinse and repeat)

OH. MY. COD. You're kidding, right? I am so excited!
Glad everyone had fun... it sounds like those of us who stayed home missed a lot of excitement.
Should be getting ready to go to KJ's blessingway, but I don't know where it is! The darn e-vite site is down for maintenance. Ack!
