View Full Version : Traveling- how far along?

How far along would you feel comfortable traveling?
We are thinking about taking a short trip around the holidays for some family time- I would either be 30/31 or 34/35 weeks, depending upon which week we choose. It would be so much more convenient to go at the later time (DH's work schedule, my school schedule, budgetary reasons).
My midwife thought anytime up until 36 weeks was ok. My mom is really starting to freak me out, though.
This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've had no history of preterm labor or any other complications and things have been perfect this time, although I'm only 18 weeks right now.
Oh, this would include a 3 hr flight (and the airline restrictions are only within 14 days of EDD).
Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated :)

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable, but I also prefer to stick close to home. I would recommend getting travel insurance, and going ahead with planning the trip. If your health is still good when it is time to leave, have fun! If something comes up that gives you reason for concern, then you can use your travel insurance to cancel.

I flew at 33/34 weeks w/ dd and I was fine. After 36 weeks, I used no travel as an excuse not to see my ILs, but I still could have. So I'd pretty much travel until I was in labor. :shrug You can always ask for a copy of your chart to bring with you in case you need it, and call your insurance and ask about treatment out of state (what's covered and what's not). But I think it'd be fine.

I am flying to Florida at 34 weeks. Of course always good to clear with your dr/midwife, but I think whatever is within your personal comfort zone is fine as long as there is no health reason not to. I probably will stay put from 36 weeks forward. Just my 2 cents!

Thanks, everyone :)
Going on past experiences, I think I'd still feel great at 34 weeks, but I know that every pg can be different, so it's a guessing game.
Jenn- great idea about the travel insurance. We'd definitely be getting that.
WeeIrishLass- my midwife said she'd send me with a copy of my records, just in case.. so that would be covered, too.

I'm still going back and forth about it..
