Bike commuting - esp for papabliss

I've been thinking about bike commuting again - we only live 8 miles from my work and although I'd have to get up earlier to ride in, I feel so lame that I drive. My boss recently started bike commuting, so now I'm all the more fired up about it (esp since its spring!) So I was talking to pie_poppa last night about getting my bike geared up. I have a new semi recumbant and the tubes, etc are all in different arrangements and I don't have panniers.

me -"I was thinking about bungeeing up the pump behind the seat, do you think that would work?"

him- "well, I think a frame pump could attach easily."

me - "wrong kind of pump."

him- "huh? what kind of pump do you mean?"

me - "breast"

We died! It was the fundamental "are we from different planets?" type discussion. Of course pie_poppa was wondering if that meant I had "bresta valves."

I started bike commuting the 10 miles to my work last spring and I'll probably be starting up again in a few weeks. I'm afraid though that I would have been from the same planet as pie_poppa on this one. :)

You got me too! I was all geared up to write a thesis on the various ways to air up bike tires, you know, CO2, short barrel pumps, high pressure ones, tubeless tires, etc. Then when you said Breast pump, I fell right off my mental bike. Good one!

Yes commute! It is so great. Well, actually I don't commute by bike much. Not that I live too far away, but I live too close! My office is two blocks from home. I do often ride when I have to go to the motor pool for a car, but usually I like the five minute walk. On a bike, I get there too quickly.

I hope to never live out of walk/bike commuting from my job. I hate cars!

Let's see, 8 mile commute at 15mph meaning 4 minute miles times 8 equals a 32 minute bike ride. Sounds great to me!
