I hope the moderators will bear with me and allow me to put this here rather than in "Finding Your Tribe" so it will get a little more press.
The 18-month-old son of a professor at my law school, in Washington, D.C., has recently been diagnosed with Acute Myeogenous Leukemia. He is currectly undergoing chemotherapy and will soon be in need of a bone marrow transplant. The law school is hosting a bone marrow registry drive on campus (by the Capitol) on Friday, July 25, from 10:30 to 3:30. The initial test that will be conducted on Friday involves only the taking of a standard blood sample. If anyone is interested in registering as a bone marrow donor, this is an excellent opportunity as the normal $65 registration fee will be waived (the law school is covering it with help from the non-profit organization Friends of Alison). While the drive is being hosted in hopes of finding a match for the professor's son, participation in the drive will result in listing in the national Registry which implies a good-faith commitment to donate marrow if you are matched with someone in need (now or in the future).
For anyone in Washington, D.C. or the surrounding area who is interested in participating or for anyone else who can't participate but is interested in helping to fund the drive, please PM me and I'll forward you the e-mail that was sent to me containing all of the relevant information. And if anyone in Northern Virginia is interested in carpooling, let me know that, too :)!
