Hi Kristen,
There is at least one mdc mama who lives in Mumbai, but probably not more. I'm going to be in Mumbai from Dec. to the beginning of March. My DH grew up there.

You are living out my dream...just thought you would like to know.
I am starting classes at the University in January, and plan to earn my teaching degree, so that I can live in Kodaikanal and teach at KIS.

Good luck!

I'm married to a man from India and my daughter, son, and I are planning on spending 6 months in a friend's house in Trivandrum from December-June. My husband will travel back and forth for visits. We're all excited! If we like it, we'll make it more permanent. I can't wait to spend time with my in-laws and his extended family.

My dh is originally from Bombay so I'd love to visit there for a period as well. Enjoy!

Does your husband's family speak Malayalam? DH is Tamil, but born and raised in Bombay. Do let me know if you're going to be coming to Bombay between Dec. and early March. I'd really love to meet some people from MDC while I'm there and I know I'm going to need regular outings to keep my head on straight.

imalwaysreading,

Your going to love Kerala. It is so beautiful there. I know you can't be a tourist there forever. I should probably tell you that Malayalam is hard to understand, but if you stick with it, you will learn some simple words. Theenu - eat for example.
Also, you can probably take a language class at one of the colleges. As far as language, at least almost everyone gets both Malayalam newspaper and English newspaper. You will read alot of news considered here as "news of the weird and awful", especially news coming from Saudi considering law ect.

I spent some time in Cochi/Ernakulam and in a village called Parathode (inland).

That is fabulous that you will be able to stay for 6 months. Feel free to ask me anything about staying there for extended time. I live in India for 4 months a few years ago. I'm not Indian, so my experience comes from that.

Will you be staying with inlaws or in your own home?
My son Ravi will be spending a year between Kottayam district in Kerala and Kodaikanal, TN when he is 15. He is 11 now.

My husband and I may be moving to North India. We're going there for a few months this winter to meet some people and scope out a job opportunity with a University before making long term plans.

Hi, I'm Chandra (just happen to have an Indian name, but I'm not) living in Bangalore for the next two years with DH and my 3 year old ds and 6 year old dd. We've been here about 6 weeks...

I'll be traveling up to Mumbai in November for a Birth India conference...

We are loving India...it's an amazing opportunity and an amazing adjustment, all at the same time. My mantra (culled from the frequent references I've found here) is "Adjust and Shift..."

we're blogging at www.wherearethefischers.blogspot.com about our India adventures if anyone cares to take a look :D

Chandra,
Can you send me some info on the Birth India conference? I have some friends who may be interested in attending.
