If you take B6 do you need to take B12 because B6 alone hampers absorption of Folic Acid? The reason I ask is because my daughter was born with special needs and I took B6 for morning sickness. The type of special needs she has has been linked to lack of Folic Acid. :( I am taking prescription strength Folic Acid right now and will thru the 1st trimester.

I read this somewhere and can't get confirmation. I asked my Family Doc yesterday and she wasn't sure. Haven't asked my OB yet.

It's a good question. I know the prescription we get in Canada is diclectin and it contains B6 and an antihistamine. It works extremely well. My guess is that with an adequate dietary intake of B12 you may be OK with just the B6 to combat the morning sickness, but certainly don't quote me on that. However with your history I'd be much more inclined to play it safe and avoid B6 supplements and try other remedies first. A naturopath or nutritionist would probably be able to tell you for sure.

I hope you find something that works!

I had bad morning sickness with my DS and my doc prescribed Premesis, a prescription prenatal designed to combat MS. It had b6, b12, iron, folic acid, and I think that's it. Might want to look into that, since it probably has the balance you need and you wouldn't have to worry.

It helped a lot, too! :)

I take 4 MG of Folic Acid a day. How much Folic Acid was in it?

Interesting question. I'd be inclined to take a food-based supplement containing the whole family of B vitamins rather than an isolated vitamin like just B6. So you could take nutritional yeast, for example (nutritional info here: http://www.bestnaturalfoods.com/nutritional_yeast.html). Or a synthetic-free multivitamin like this one: http://www.drrons.com/docs-best-multi.htm
