I am hoping for a homebirth.
I attempted a homebirth with my daughter but got transferred to the hospital. I had a very long labour and got stuck at 6cm for 7 hours, and protocol is they transfer you.
Here midwives can attend in the hospital though, and I still got a fabulous and natural birth experience.
I won't be traumatized if I have to go to the hospital again, but I'm really hoping for a homebirth this time.

I dont a CNM in a hospital with a doula. I wanted a home birth but DH is very uncomfortable. Also because I'm fat and DS was 4 weeks early I had a lot of trouble finding anyone that would do it anyway. Idaho isnt kind to midwives here.

My midwife is part of a practice that has a birthing suite with jacuzzi tubs...so I like the sound of that. But I am also very partial to a homebirth. I guess it depends on how I am feeling and how my wife is feeling as the day gets closer.
Hopeing for my first homebirth; had a NCB in hospital last time and it was lovely (very hands off, low intervention hospital), so if we wind up transferring or if for some reason I risk out of homebirth I'll be disappointed, but not too upset. I've got my midwives lined up - one advantage of testing really early, it was much easier to get into the midwives! (thismama are you in Ontario too? the regulations on midwives sound about right)

dis....I'm in Ontario too. I tried to get in with a midwife my second pregnancy and it was too late. But I'd have ended up a physician transfer anyhow. Then tested really early with my third and this one and called immediately and no problems getting in.
My last baby decided to arrive at 36 weeks and change so I ended up needing to deliver in hospital. But it was a lovely natural delivery with my midwife anyhow. Hoping for a midwife assisted homebirth this time.

Unless we move during this pregnancy, I'm going for a birth center/midwife birth. Last time was in a hospital...and while it was a great birth experience with no interventions at all (and fantastic milkshakes from the caf) I think I'd like the birth center more.
If I get my way, and we can move during this pregnancy then I'm not sure. We'd be moving to a place that has 1 birth center in the entire state...so it would depend on how comfortable I felt with them. Otherwise, off to the hospital...

It would be interesting to run a similar poll next June to see what kind of births we actually had.

I voted birth centre. I would dearly love a homebirth, but the situation is very different here in Australia. Independent midwives are not able to get professional indemnity insurance, so there are very few practicing now. The nearest one to me is an hour and a half drive away, and I've spoken to her before and we didn't "click" at all. Plus no health insurance covers homebirths, so you need to pay $4000 + out of pocket. :(
So I will book into the birth centre and have my antenatal care from the midwives there. My previous births have been 8 hours, 3 hours and 1.5 hours, so I might just stay home and UC, then go to the BC after for a check up.
I've got a long time to think about it! :o

I voted birth center. Ds was a hospital birth, induced and I know I don't want that again. I will have a general family practitioner though which should be interesting. Ds I had an OB and a midwife. Midwives are illegal in MO :(

What a pain. I thought homebirth was pretty common there.
Here no homebirth midwives carry liability insurance at all.
But in most cases health insurance will cover some of the cost.

I'll be giving birth in a hospital with a midwife in attendance... unless the midwife I've chosen has privilages at some birth center that I don't know about. Having to fly 300 miles to find a practitioner who takes my insurance pretty much rules out a homebirth of any kind. :lol

Birth center with beautiful suites and jacuzzis. Dh wants to go UC, though. Weird that the husband should be the one to want a UC. I considered a homebirth, but home isn't really relaxing to me. I'd feel like I had to clean and entertain. But 9 months is a long time to change my mind.

I will home birth!
I had a C-Sec then and easy HBAC then a second home birth with complications but no hospital. We wanted to UC next time but after the last birth I think we will always have a midwife there just in case we need the help. My DH catches but I don't know if DD2 or I would have lived if it was UC. The cord was wrapped 5 times around her neck and then around her arms, then I hemoraged BAD. I just love home birth!

I considered a homebirth, but home isn't really relaxing to me.
:lol that's EXACTLY what my best friend decided when she ruled out a homebirth! Her hubby isn't the most helpful around the house, so she decided that a homebirth would probably end up being more work for her than a hospital birth. She's also VERY knowledgeable and quite a strong character, so she's MORE than comfortable telling hospital staff exactly what to do and not do.
Me... I'm scared that I'll let the hospital talk me into stuff, but I really don't have much of an option.

Birthing center attached to the hospital with my CNMW that I love.
If she did homebirths, I'd consider one.

Hospital birth. I had a difficult birth with many complications with dd. The doctors at my hospital were wonderful. They didn't push a c-section on me and let us make the decision. They were very supportive of my choice to have a vaginal birth. Our opinions were respected the whole time.

I love reading all of your plans. So exciting! I would love to go for a homebirth, but nervous nelly DH would be way way way too anxious.
So, we'll do what we did last time: hospital birth with a doula. I had a natural childbirth with DS using Birthing From Within (our doula is a BFW instructor), and it was an amazing experience. My docs were incredibly supportive of my desire for a natural birth. The doc who delivered DS even suggested ways to help get through transition and ran interference with a not-so-supportive nurse.

homebirth for me(hopefully). first birth was at the hospital and it wasn't fun and then second was at home and it was really wonderful. I was worried about the same things some of you posted about wanting to clean and everything but i was so much more relaxed than I thought I would be. I did keep cleaning and keep food inthe fridge until the day I labored but it was more like nesting.I stayed in my bedroom mostly and it was so nice not to have to go anywhere or come home from anywhere. This time my mom is going to take the boys for a few days and i will really be able to rest with the baby.

I think I'm going with a hospital birth with a midwife this time. It's the best compromise DH and I could come up with.

I'm going to HBAC, so homebirth for me. There's no way I'd set foot into a hospital with my labor unless there was a real emergency after the experience I had last time.

We would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a homebirth!!! Our insurance definitely wouldn't cover any part of a homebirth, and since finances are pretty tight right now, we're just not sure we can swing it. I'm also technically considered high risk, and our doula from dd's birth (who is also a midwife) is no longer attending births, so we're not sure if anyone would take us. :(
So, if we can't homebirth at home, we'll homebirth at the hospital with a doula and leave as soon as we can so we can all relax in OUR bed as a family!!!

Another UC for us. Even if there was a midwife that I liked around here, we certainly can't afford it.
