No heartbeat: Early u/s question

Hi Mamas. So today I had an u/s to try and help calm my nerves after a m/c. My last period was July 21 and my cycles are 30 days long usually. I felt I ovulated early by a week this month. I had my pregnancy symptoms incredibly early. I thought I was pregnant but was having neg. tests. I made an appointment with my midwife to see if I was maybe having thyroid issues or what and turned out I was pregnant. I must have been having symptoms from the second I conceived.

Well today they couldnt find a heartbeat. They said I was measuring 5w2d. They said everything looked really healthy (from what they could see) I had a beautifully perfectly round yolk sac. They want to see my in two weeks to find the heartbeat then. How could this happen? I had sex only in the beginning month of August. Sometime either the 1-5th I *think* but not again because I was so tired and got a bad cold. Is this normal to be this off? I was pretty worried that I wasnt throwing up yet but that would make sense because ms didnt start with DS until 6-7 weeks. Anyway what do you ladies think?

Okay, not basing this on anything besides my hunch.. If you see a "healthy yolk sac", even at this young gestational age, I would be confident.. I dont remember exactly when a heartbeat is detected, maybe at the earliest 6wks?

I just want to share that I had an ultrasound at 5w3d and there was no heartbeat. I went back 10 days later, and low and behold, there she was. :)

do beta levels if you're really worried, that always made me feel better. at 5w3d DD who is alive and well today had no h/b, and I thought I was further along also. good luck!

I had an us at 5w4d...no heartbeat only a 'bubble' as my DH called it.

You ladies are SO SWEET! Thank you. I feel a lot better now. I wish that I wasnt so paranoid and didnt get ultrasounds. I know they're not good for the baby. But my midwife says my freaking out isnt good either. I'm so jealous of the wonderful women that have UP's. Thats my goal with future pregnancies for sure. Thank you again so much! YAY!

You're about a week early, possibly two weeks early, to see a heartbeat. Don't worry about it.

Yep, by 7 weeks there should be a heartbeat. Don't fret!

the heart only begins to beat around 6 weeks.

I'm in agreement with the rest, it is more than likely too early and since there is a healthy yolk sac, then everything is fine. I didn't get a hb until 7 weeks. We thought we lost her because I had bleeding as well, but everything turned out fine!!!!

Adding to what's been said already, I had an u/s at 5w3d because of some bleeding and all they could say was there was a pregnancy, no heartbeat - the heartbeat wasn't there until after 7 weeks. :hug hang in there and congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Thank you all! I guess I'm just confused as to how I would only be 5 weeks if my last period was on the 21st of July and my cycles are 30 days. I'm glad everything is okay though. Im so excited for this baby!
