Anyone else want a little encouragement and accountability to start or keep up with your exercise plan? Maybe we could post here daily (or weekly) with updates on how we're doing with exercise.

BTW a great book on this subject is Exercising Through Your Pregnancy by James Clapp. Has a ton of information from the research he did with a bunch of pregnant mamas, and how it impacted their birth experiences as well as the future health of their babies (they followed up with the kids several years afterward).

I haven't been working out for the last few months because as soon as I get on the Gazelle (a kind of cross-country ski machine/power walking thingy), my DS tries to climb all over it. At 30 lbs, almost 2 years old, he's just too big and heavy for me to BW while exercising. Well, I could do it, but then I'd be more likely to just skip exercising altogether.

So first thing this morning I put him in his high chair in front of a VeggieTales while I got on the Gazelle and watched the movie with him. It was a lovely 30 minutes :D I hope this strategy keeps working!

Woohoo! Great job :D I have the same problem with my 2.5 year old wanting to climb all over the elliptical when I try and use it. I just got done with a mile exercise walk while she was sleeping, woot. And now it's so lovely outside I'm gonna go chase balls with my dogs, hehe. It's not much, but it's a start and I'll definitely need encouragement!

I just ordered that book from the library. Thanks for the rec.

We have an elliptical so I try to do 20 mins, 3 days/week on that, and then the Nautilus circuit at the YMCA 2 or 3 days/week. I've been doing that for awhile and have even been doing it through this awful headache this week.

I hate to miss exercising b/c it makes me feel so much better. It even made me headache go away for an hour. So that's my motivation - it feels good.

I'm in... I only recently realized how much walking I do in an average day, just kind of living my life.

1/4 mile to work in the AM
1/4 mile walk back home for lunch
1/4 mile walk back to school (today in the pouring rain... grr)
1/4 mile walk to the post office and/or store after school
1/3 mile walk home.

That's 1 1/3 miles per day! It's just in fits and starts, but steps are steps. I need to do more stretching, though.

This is so funny, I did this exact thing through my last pg. I have a Gazelle that I love and we live on VeggieTales and Larry Boy!:lol :lol

Today my DH and I got up and did Tae bo, the 30 minute video. We love doing it together in the morning. I want to start doing some kind of yoga at night to relax, but I have never done yoga before.:hide:
I am about 100 pounds over weight so my goal for this pg is to loose weight not gain! I have been eating very healthy and not overeating. I have been doing tae bo 6 days a week for 3 1/2 weeks. I was trying to get off the weight from my last 2 DC. I feel great but now that I know I am pg I want to gently step it up a bit. I can NOT gain any weight this time!

I'd LOVE a good prenatal Yoga DVD... anyone have any suggestions?

sigh

I was registered to run a half marathon, but my recent bouts of nausea/morning sickness have made me decide not to do it. On the one hand, I am so sad because I have trained so hard for this. Granted, it's not my first half marathon, but still. But on the other hand, there is no way my body can handle running 13 miles right now! I'm not willing to push myself to prove that I can do it. I know I can. It will just have to wait another couple of years.

I'll run and walk throughout this pregnancy like I did the last one. Running is essential for my well-being :)

I'm not as ambitious as y'all, but I am trying to go for a walk (about 1.5 mi I think) every day.

I also have made a personal resolution to be the Kegel Queen this time.

I've been doing that for awhile and have even been doing it through this awful headache this week.
You have an awful headache too? I've been taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen like crazy in the last week. Doctor couldn't find a reason and dentist said it wouldn't be caused by my needed root canal (which I had today - headache is back after 3 hours in the chair!!). Luckily it gradually went away a few days ago. Hope yours does too!

ETA: I meant to post that I rode my stationary bike for 35 minutes on Sunday. I go in spurts, so I'm trying to be more consistent. I made my own exercise log on a spreadsheet and it's fun to see the minutes, miles, and calories add up.

I love my Gazelle but we just moved and it is still in the garage, and we move again in 3 weeks so I will have it then. I really like the Tae Bo, I lost 150lbs doing this same 30 minute video. Then I got pg 2 more times and now have 100 pounds to loose AGAIN! I think that I will just use both and get new Tae Bo videos. My DH likes the Tae Bo so he keeps me motivated. The Tae BO is a very hard workout and you DRIP sweat, but it is fun!

Dripping sweat? Gee, I'm too much of a coward for that :lol What about a nice bellydance video? That would be fun!!

Please be careful taking ibuprofen in pregnancy!!! I can't remember why, only that I NEVER take it...causes miscarriage maybe??

I used to be absolutely devoted to running 3 miles a day. Now I am lucky to get out every day. I've missed two days already this week. Sometimes my walk/run totally drains me instead of energizing me. My motivation is nill right now. Blah! I hope to step it up though.

You gals are amazing! :D I work at our local Y in the childwatch, and since we've been short-staffed, I've picked up extra shifts this week. You can only have your child in for a certain period of time so I haven't had any time to work out this week. I think I'm going to have to back off the extra shifts in order to keep my exercise in my daily routine.

I've been trying to walk at least every other day (usually 2-3 miles), which my dh does with me. He doesn't really do any other exercise, so I'm on my own for the rest, which is basically using my hand weights/doing squats and lunges at least once a week; doing yoga once a week; doing my bellydance video once a week. So I usually get at least three days of 'working out' and three days of walking/cardio. I recently lost the 15 pounds I gained after getting married, so now I'm just trying to keep the fat off while I gain a healthy amount during this pregnancy. Oh, and I love my bellydancing video! It's The Goddess Workout by Dolphina, and I can totally see me popping it in the dvd player when I'm in early labor to loosen up my hips and get ready for the birth. :nod

Wow, now I can't wait until the library sends my bellydance video!

VeggieTales worked again today. That's 3 days of 30 minutes on the Gazelle - a major victory! :lol

30 mins of nautilus weights and 10 mins on the elliptical, slow speed, high resistance. I felt crappy and bored this morning, but exercising made it all better.

I just finished my first bellydancing class a couple weeks ago. So, now I'm using that $ to go back to weight lifting at the same community center. I worked out on Monday...and will go back tomorrow (just not feeling good today). I used to weight train religiously...but that was all pre-DD. But...I'm back at it for at least 10 more weeks as that's how long my pass is good for.

In a few more weeks I'll be starting prenatal yoga again. I LOVED that class and missed going when I had DD. I won't go until I'm ~12 weeks though...just doesn't seem right to be there before then.

Aside from that, I try to walk 30 minutes a day but that doesn't always happen. Of course, some days I walk much longer than that so in the end I hope it evens out!

This is such a cool thread! I weight trained all the way through my last pregnancy and actually put on muscle.
I am determined not to gain a lot of weight this time because I'm slightly worried about having a bigger baby (ds was 10 and 8oz)

Anyway, I just decided to try exercise videos b/c it is hard to get to the gym with two children!
What videos does everyone like?

Thanks for your concern, but don't worry - I did run it by my doctor. I'm pretty sure it's not okay in the last trimester.

My DH tricked me into going on a 20 mile bike ride yesterday. I thought we were going to ride maybe 10 miles at the most. So, we get to a point on the trail where there is a map and I ask how far we've gone & he says "a little over 7 miles, but we're almost there". When we got home I asked him why he had not told me how far we were going & he said "b/c you wouldn't have come with me".
Well today my knees feel like they are on fire. I would have liked to work up to a 20 mile ride.

I finally got off my lazy, nauseous butt and did my three miles today. I probably only ran a mile, but hey after three days of missing, I think that's okay! My DD was happy to get to go to the playground at the school at the halfway point. Afterwards we stayed outside and used sidewalk chalk on our walkway. I'm so thankful for a more energized day!

I've been doing a lot of walking instead of running. That'll do for now, and hopefully when this nausea goes away (please, please tell me it will go away) that I can start running again. Oh, and I'm chasing after my 17 month old. That counts too, no? :lol

Yesterday I didn't get on the Gazelle but I did about an hour of ballet-type stretches with a video called something like, Moving with Mozart.

Today I got my 30 minutes on the Gazelle while DS watched some goofy Disney movie from the 1970's.

I would love to find a new video. Anyone have any ideas?

I have done tae bo on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

I did 10 mins of uphill walking on the treadmill and the nautilus circuit.

Some exercise, like the hip adduction machine and uphill treadmill, make my round ligaments hurt a little. Do you think that is bad?

I've been keeping up with the 30 minute Gazelle workout in the mornings. I think I've done 7 days out of the last 9 or something. Putting on a children's movie for DS is working! I also tried doing a belly dance video but DS refused to watch it. He insisted I turn it off and put on VeggieTales instead. :lol

Wow, you guys are doing better than I am!

I've been lifting (light) weights three times a week and walking a mile and a half three times a week. That's it. I think I need to step it up a bit!

I have a Tai Bo tape, maybe I'll start there.

It's hard with 5 little ones running around!

I want to join! I need some accountability!!! :p

I joined a pilates class last Tuesday, and I've been trying to get to the gym at least twice a week beyond that for 30 min on the elliptical and 30 min on the nautilus circuit. As long as the morning sickness doesn't get any worse today, I'll probably go do that tonight!
