Hi Fishy,

Well, did you relocate? I am just curious to know what you think. Brattleboro is one of the two places I might be moving to this summer. The other is San Francisco. For graduate school. We are leaning more heavily towards Brattleboro though. I'm from Washington state, and the country feel is more my style. I love it. The school in Brattleboro is also smaller and seems really great too. I would love to know what you think about the feel of the place and Vermont in general. It looks absolutely gorgeous there.

Peace,
nappyhair

We relocated to Vermont, from Maine, about 8 months ago. I live about 30 min. north of Brattleboro. It is gorgeous. The people are wonderful here. We live in a small town, so it is very quaint. I think anywhere in New England is a great place to live.

Good luck!

Best of luck to you, fishy.

Mama2maya, I'd love to hear more about where you live, if you don't mind giving more details. Quaint sounds wonderful...and warm people do too. It looks like we will be moving there sometime this summer. I am really excited about the move and starting graduate school, but I am terrified of leaving my toddler for the first time when I do begin school.

How old is your child/ren? What kinds of activities do you do in the area? Do there seem to be quite a few AP parents there? What are the libraries like? Are there storytimes at the bookstores? Have you met many mamas?

I really look forward to hearing more. Anything you want to tell me, really. Feel free to talk my ear off.

VermontMommy, how far are you from Richmond? You sound very close. I am still relatively new here and would love to find a good mother's group. How old are your kids??? My daughter just turned 1 last month. I haven't been to Shelburne Farms yet. I have heard good things, though.

Wow! One of my close friends is from Jericho. I really don't know the area all that well. Are you part of any local groups? I have checked with our library and there isn't much for her age group yet. Next summer there will be a lot, but not yet. I would love to learn more about you and your kids, if you are open to that. It really is so hard to meet people being a SAHM.

I have 1 daughter, Maya. As I said she is 1. I am married and have been with my DH for 10years. We are somewhat natural parents??? We cloth diaper, which is what brought me to this board. I am very interested in meeting other SAHM in my area.

By the way, I can't believe that another town is smaller than Richmond.!!!!!

Unfortunately, I don't really know anyone in Richmond. I have met 1 family with little ones. Maya just started walking, so we haven't really been down at the park. She would just sit, and not crawl. Doesn't make for a good opening line when your baby won't interact!! lol!! We did go down a couple weeks ago, when it was really warm. She was walking up to everyone, and I met a bunch of moms. The only problem is that it has been really cold since, and I haven't got a chance to go again. We live within walking distance, so the park is perfect..... maybe next summer. I used to tell my friends from Maine (the state we used to live in) that I was going to walk around with a sign saying "friends needed...call 434-....). I never really got the nerve, though!!!

We are definately not what you would call crunchy. Well, I definately am at heart, but not really on the outside. We definately are not mainstream, though.

Anyway, enough babbling. Maybe, if you would like, we can meet sometime at one of the places you mentioned. I would love to go to the Aquarium.

Thanks for the chat!!

We met at the Toy Library about a month ago. I have 2 girls, Marguerite and Elsa...you helped Marguerite onto the big rocking horse:wave . We still need to return the toys from that visit, so maybe we'll meet up again.

oh, we live in St. Albans...a little farther north.

Take care,
Kaight

Howdy
I facilitate an Attachment/Natural Parenting mothers support group in Randolph VT at the library that is MOST Thursdays (but not all) from 10:30-noon. If you ever feel the need to get out of the house, it's a great group of mothers and kids, ranging from newborns to 3 years old. Mine is 2 and still nursing strong. We have discussed emotional responsiveness, positive discipline, maintaining balance, co-sleeping, sex, cloth diapering, not sleeping, exhaustion, attachment parenting, extended nursing. I started the group in August because I moved here over a year ago and had a tough first winter and needed to find more community. I was amazed when 14 mom showed up at one of the first meetings! Instant community. It has made life in rural VT so much more fun-ctional. I wish you lots of success in meeting a good group of moms, it really helps a lot. Also finding a La Leche League group in your area helps a lot with networking and finding others of like mind. La Leche League has a website that lists meetings in all areas of the country.

Greetings to all you Vermont Mamas!
I was so happy to find this little corner of the discussion boards.

We live in Middlebury. My husband and I run the green mountain school of yoga and we have a son who was born 12/20/02. We had a homebirth and we co-sleep and cloth diaper, didn't circumcise or vaccinate and so we love our subscription to Mothering because it is so supportive of our choices. Finding other families who are live a similar lifestyle is very precious, i am learning. So, I am coming out of lurk mode and saying hello. Perhaps I will try to make it over the mtns. to Randolph to the library some Thurs. to meet up with maxmom and the group. Thursdays are tough day for us ride-wise, though, since dh has the car for work usually that day. But the next time there is an exception to that and the roads are clear my son and I will try to come.

Be well, enjoy the snow!

Ambika,
Do you know about La Leche League? It meets the third Tuesday of every month at 9:30am in Montpelier at the UnitarianChurch on Main. A very fine group of mamas and great place to meet other like minded parents.

Maxmom,
Thanks for the tip on LaLeche in Montpelier. I didn't know about that. It's a bit of a haul from here to there, though, especially to get there at 9:30AM!:eek I think it's about 2 hours drive.
I had looked into LaLeche here in Middlebury--there was a chapter but it went "inactive" and the woman in charge was steering me towards Burlington. That's only about 1 hour from here. i still haven't made it up there. But your post reminds me of what a good resource that could be for us also.

Wanted also to ask you about the Toy Library. Where is that?

I hope some day we'll get the chance to meet!

Thanks again for thinking of us re: LLL

I host a Breastfeeding Support Playgroup in Springfield.
We've also had a lot of twins lately, so we also advertise as a Twins/Multiples Support Group, too.

We have a very nice group built up, with kids from birth to 3 1/2 so far.

We meet every Tuesday from 10 to 12, at the Springfield Area Parent Child Center, just north of town.

Maya's mama: where do you live?? We're about 30 minutes north of Brattleboro, I'm awfully curious!

We are welcoming Spring on with open arms here, how about you all? Man oh man is it a different world these days to freely go outdoors and play again!

Just wanted to post that the AP Mothers Support/Discussion group in Randolph now meets on First and Third Thursdays at the Library on Main. Same type of discussions as listed above (co-sleeping, not sleeping, baby wearing, positive discipline etc).

For those of you looking to find community--I just want to say that it wasn't that hard to start this group. I'd be glad to tell you the steps I took to set it up if you want to put it together in your own town. Of course we'd love to have your company on a Thursday that works for you.

Happy Spring!

Hello Ambika-

I emailed you in the private message section but know it took me a while to find those in my account so I am sending you a note here too.

I too have lurked on the mothering boards for a while.

My husband Scott and our son Jonas (2.5 yrs) and I live in Orwell and come to Middlebury for work and coop and library. We have small organic farm in Orwell, veggies, 4 cows, lots of chickens.

We are very much cloth diaperers and still nursing.

Anytime you would like to get together, we would love to connect with other like minded parents and children!

Anyhow, lets chat!

Hello,

If any of you Brattleboro mamas are still around, please help me. I got a great offer from SIT to go to graduate school there, and if I accept, we will have to move to Brattleboro in a matter of days!!!! Where are the nice but reasonably priced apartments or duplexes that are not too far away from School for International Training? Can you give me some names of streets I can look up or just general information about particular areas? Also, are there any child care centers you've heard Rave reviews about? Any information is welcome.

Thanks in advance.
