Check out Montpelier- I'm from Burlington, and that's where I'd move if I were moving back.

Check out the Upper Valley thread for my opinions in general about this side of the state. http://mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?s=&postid=754423#post754423

And, I think Brattleboro is a great city (large town by many people's standards). I have never lived there, however. I have a friend of a friend from there. There's a lot of theatre stuff there and it is the home of Archer Mayor, the mystery writer (of course, I am SURE :blush that Brattleboro doesn't have the volume of crime he puts in his books!!!!! Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that connection!!:eek It might make you :bolt )

It is a walkable place, as is Montpelier. I definately prefer the east side of the Green Mountains.

Why are you thinking of moving? And what made you think of Brattleboro?

:) Yours, the shameless VT booster!

I live in Burlington and I love it. My son was born here and is now almost two. It is a college town so yes the bars downtown on the weekends are alive, but it is also a tourist town so it is busy downtown anyway. I love being right on the lake and having tons of beach and park choices. There are even more state parks located just 30 minutes north in the Champlain Islands.

Just thought I'd add this link to this thread: http://www.reformer.com/

It is the website of the Brattleboro Reformer, the local newspaper.

I live thirty minutes south of burlington in the champlain valley and LOVE IT. I really like having the access to burlington for culutural stuff and the rural atmosphere so close to home. I agree with another poster also that Montpelier is a great city. There are soooo many great places to live in vermont. Here are my top three 1. Where I am now (North Ferrisburgh), 2. Huntington 3. Richmond....oh I could go on.....
