Hi,
I'm 34 weeks and measuring 35 weeks. Does that mean I'm actually 35 weeks, or just measuring big KWIM?
I hope this makes sense.

Probably just measuring big. I measured a few weeks big in the beginning, the right on, then a week behind and now at 36.5 weeks I measure 38. No big deal though.

If you were unsure of when you got pg then you could be 35 wks but your babe is probably just their average size 35 wk baby.
I measured about a week smaller than I actually was with #2 when I was around 37 wks pg. I had gone there at that point to check the size of the baby because I hadn't gained weight in a month. he was a healthy 6.6 lbs

prolly just measuring big.
my midwife has this card she fills out on me each week
check this out:
at 18wks i measured 21
22wks i measured 21
24wks i measured 24
27wks6days i measured 30
29wks 6 days i measured 32
31wks 6days i measured 33
34wks i measured 36
36wks i measured 36 again
and 37wks i measured 37
yet the baby has obviously dropped further down
????
i think it depends on many things. including who is doign the measuring (the last 4 visits i've seen 4 different midwives as i want to know them all in case MY midwife isn't available for my birth)
anyway. hope this helps. your prolly jsut measureing a bit big

Domestic Goddess,
We are due date buddies, almost! I am due Aug. 31. :p
I also measured ahead last month (measured 35 weeks when I was 33) but now that babe has dropped lower I am measuring right on target. I think colorful Mama is right, sometimes it can be a difference in who is measuring you. However, I have always been measured by the same midwife. I am sure to the day of when we conceived, so in my case, baby may have been just a tad ahead.
If you don't know when you conceived, you, of course, could be a couple of weeks farther along in your pregnancy! Wouldn't that be wonderful!:D

Measuring isn't an exact science, any fluctuations of less than 4 cm is normal and to be expected. :D

You just measured big.
With my dd4, I measured 40 at 36..lol.. but there was excess fluid(polyamnios?) though she was fine, she also weighed at 9lbs 2 oz. With dd6 I measured smaller for dates yet she was 9lbs 5 oz. Go figure. At 18 weeks this time, I measured 20 weeks, even the u/s measured me big, but we are confident of our dates. Hey when it happened only once in 6 weeks due to the flu..lol.. a person is pretty confident.
Also remember the measurements they use are averages... which means some will be bigger and others smaller.
So exciting you're meeting your baby soon!!!

It could be a lot of things. But I think that far along it doesn't mean much if it is just a week. at my 8 weeks visit with my second (this pg) I was measuring 14 weeks instead of 8. With my son I measured 2 weeks ahead the entire time.
It could have just been the way baby was laying....

Yeah, it's not an exact science. It's an estimation - and then ONLY for a baseline look at growth, not how big your baby is according to the weeks.
I can measure a belly, then my assistant or apprentice could measure right after me and get 2cm difference. It's totally normal - varies from provider to provider, baby to baby, week to week.
It's no big deal. ;)
