Do your mother's deliveries indicate yours?

Mom delivered at her 40 week due date with my bro and then late with me. Supposedly. I now don't have a clear answer.

I was just wondering if genetics help determine delivery dates??

Speaking of Mom, she booked her tickets out here from Nov 15th to Dec 5th. I reminded her we COULD have a late baby, but she is going by the regular due date of Nov 23rd (and not the 35 day cycle EDD of Nov 30th) and says I will "just have to have the baby in that timeframe."

The naughty part of me hopes she is wrong, but the other part hopes I deliver as close to Nov 15th as possible so I don't have the added stress hanging over my head of her impending date to leave.

Anywhoo, I am obsessed with when I will deliver - aren't we all? - and I was wondering if her 40+ week deliveries would help indicate this one might go that long? My others were induced with Pitocin and membrane stripping at 37-38 weeks.

I honestly don't think there is a connection! I think it's better to be ready early but assume you'll go late. It's much easier on the nerves that way!

not at ALL for me! My mom had me 10 days late, after her blood pressure shot thru the roof she had an emergancy c-section. My 3 siblings were c-sections scheduled 2 days before she was due.

My kiddo's have both came naturally at around 38.3 weeks. w/ NO complications :)

Ohmygosh, I hope not! I was born at 42.5 weeks via cesarean, with no signs of labor...but I was breech. My brother was sectioned at 42 weeks, no labor there either.

If I'm still pregnant at 41 weeks, I'll start some accupuncture and chiropractic. At 42 weeks, DH is taking off work so we can have sex 7 times a day. At 43, I'm going to run a marathon. :lol

Gina, I swear, I JUST googled this, a second before I saw your post....
My parents were here this week, and my mom told me she labored about an hour and a half with me (although I was her third). she says her labors with my sisters were pretty short as well...

i'm a twin and we were born at 41 weeks. my younger sister was also born at 41 weeks. both were normal easy vaginal births. i had DD at 39 weeks, posterior vaginal birth.

My first delivery was very similar to my mom's delivery with me (her eldest).

I had my dd at home at 39 weeks. My mom delivered me at 38 weeks 5 days.

My second pregnancy was my twins, who were 36 weeks--but they're twins, so I don't really count them.

My third and fourth pregnancies delivered at 40w3d and 40w1d.

My mom delivered her second at 40w5d. Her third, fourth, and fifth were all in the 39th week. Her sixth was at 37.5 weeks. After two miscarriages (one quite early, and another at 12 weeks), her seventh and eighth were both born at 35 weeks.

Oh, and can I just mention that my mom had six homebirths, and her two hospital deliveries were unmedicated? I love my mom.:lol

So, this has nothing to do with mother's labors but one thing I'm curious about is how body frame affects gestation length. Now this is completely anecdotal evidence, but in my own world of experience - the thinnest moms gave birth the earliest. I have some curves and am usually around 145 at 5'6" before pregnancy - all mine were post due date. My friends/acqaintances who are 130 lbs and less had their babies before their due date. I'm curious to know how many of you moms that had early babies (without inductions) are naturally thin?

I don't think it's that reliable, but hey, how else are we supposed to make our guesses? ;)

For me, timing of going into labor has been most like my paternal grandmother (she tended to go late while my mom, her sister, and my maternal grandmother all went early. None of them ever reached their due date or even 39 weeks I think). BUT my actual labors have been like those of my mother, her sister, and their mother--fast and intense.

I've also been told you labor more like your sisters than your mom (though have no anecdotal evidence for that). Just to throw one more theory out there!

Well, I know very thin women who have gone 10+ days late each time... but I have thought about this too and wonder if there might be something to it. I think weight gain might play a role too, esp if the mom's body is not allowed to do what is normal for her. Back when my mom and aunt had kids they were so restricted in their weight gain, 15-20 pounds max, and they had early babies who were smallish... Of course they also started out much thinner than I have ever been...

I have read, I think on the March of Dimes website, that women of shorter stature are more likely to deliver prematurely, but I don't know how that applies to frame or weight.

My doula said the same thing to me... I guess it might be possible to inherit your paternal grandmother's uterus??? :lol

My mom and I both needed pitocin for our first, but she can't even remember if it was a complete induction or labor augmentation, or if her water had broken already or what. My water had broken, but no active labor after 12+ hours.

While I don't put much stock in it, I'm using the fact that my brother was 10#1oz and born vaginally to push for VBAC. I was 8#1, and my baby brother was 8#6. All three of us were out the front door, but my brother and I were with pitocin and episiotimies and epidurals. My baby brother came so fast that he was natural and no tears.

Not for me at least. Size wise our babies were simular, I was 7lbs8oz, James was 7lbs3oz...but my mom smoked while preg with me, I've never smoked before in my life.

My mom started having semi-regular but far spaced contractions on a Friday, she continued having them until I was born Monday aftenoon. I was 1 week early. She was induced 1 day before her due date with my brother (no health issues but she was due Dec 31st and there was another woman at the hospital that was due that same day with her 8th child and the doctors wanted her to have the New Years Baby gift basket). With my youngest brother she started having regular ctx at 4am, he was born at 1:30pm. All of us were just over 7lbs. My youngest brother was 7lbs4oz and my mom had quit smoking by this point. LOL

With James, my water broke spontaniously before I'd even had a contraction and he was born 11.5 hours later, no pit...my ctx started 15-20 minutes after my water broke and were every 4 minutes from the get go.

This is true. Since I'm the oldest of three girls and the only one to have children, I have no sister births with which to compare! But I'm giving my sisters plenty to go off of.

As far as my mother, she gave birth to the three of us each three weeks early, and hemorraged severely with all three of us. That was back when women were hospitalized for a long time after birth, and she was in the hospital for a week after me. She said she was so weak that she couldn't pick me up, and the nurses had to beg her to feed me. :(

I have never come close to hemmoraging; my first birth was at 35 weeks (probably a fluke), and my second was at nearly 40. I have felt wonderful after both births.

not in your DDC but I was just thinking about this today. My mom expected our gestations to be similar, and they were with our first babies, but so far I'm a week past my EDD with my second, and her second (my brother) was born a few hours before his EDD ~ she's quite annoyed that we're still waiting on this baby :lol
