Big enough to fit carts at Costco.

This is the gentle nudge from my sister for a Christmas gift from me. She pointed me to some rather expensive ones online and suggested that I break out the sewing machine and make one much cheaper.

She has a used Eddie Bauer one but says it is too small for most shopping carts and most definitely is not big enough for Costco.

So, does anyone know of a pattern for a generously sized cover? I don't care if its free, I just want to find a tried and true pattern because I've never used one of these covers so can't even begin to think about winging it or making judgement calls on a so-so pattern.

Please help, I even have the perfect fabric already sitting in my sewing room just waiting for a project involving my DN. Its just begging to be turned into a cart cover.

I can't help you with a pattern, but I use the "floppy seat" and it fits the Costco carts. I don't know if that helps you or not. I bought mine used off Ebay for about $15, and I think they are $30 or $40 new.

Good luck.

Simplicity has a good pattern. I don't have the number handy though.

If you have a tape measure, you can measure a cart seat and make your own pattern. That is how I made my pattern.

It is sewn in a big oval approx 48 inches tall by 45 inches wide. I use elastic all the way around the outside of the circle. It stretches to fit any size cart. Then I just put it on a shopping cart and marked the holes for the leg openings and the seat belt openings. Cut them out and then used bias tape to finish them off.

I like to use a layer or two of quilt batting in the middle of the cover so it has a little bit if "squish" to make the seat more comfy.

I used the Jan Andrea pattern as my base and altered it a bit to suit my needs, and it turned out just the the floppy cover, for about $15 :) If you'd like more info email me (mkmb129@gmail.com) and I can tell you how I altered it.

The verrrry easy pattern from ebay is the one I have, and I have made tons of these covers, and they turn out sooo sweet, and can cushion a smaller cart as well as the bigs cotsco or sams club carts, I also used mine in highchairs when at restaurants, and also public swings at playgrounds, even used it on public stroller type carts, it was the best thing I made for dd, I only wish I new about them , when my boys were younger.... LOVE the cart covers!!!
