I x-posted this in i'm pregnant also....but I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not it is safe to have just a cleaning? I'll be 6 weeks. I could just call my m/w but I have already called a couple times and feel like I am bothering her. SHE doesn't make me feel that way, I just feel that way.

Everything I've seen says it's fine--I wouldn't do fluoride or anything like that. Unfortunately pregnancy does make you more sensitive to the pain--hope you have a good hygienist!

I'm planning on make an appointment for a cleaning sometime soonish. You need to take care of yourself while pregnant, and that includes your teeth :lol

i've read that it's especially important to get a cleaning while pg (although i can't remember why at the moment). the only thing to avoid is the x-rays. :)

I had a regular cleaning scheduled when I was 4 weeks (last week) and it was totally fine and not a big deal. My dentist is pregnant too so we had a nice chat.

When you are pregnant the extra blood flow and hormone production makes your gums more susceptible to infection. The infection can get right into your blood stream and travel on down to your little sprout, so it is important to have good dental hygiene. Or at least that's what they told me. Then they said that they want me to get my teeth cleaned every three months, which of course won't be covered by insurance. :lol
