What an awesome book! I laughed out loud, cried small tears of joy and sobbed in pain. What an amazing life this woman has had. Highly recommended to any pregnant woman. Right up there with Spiritual midwifery. Matter of fact, i think Id put it in front of S M.

Go get it!

I wish I would have read it with my first pregnancy.

I bought it and read it all in one night I couldnt put it down. I really wish I had gone to the bookstore more often when i was PG for DD. Maybe I would have thought differently. (i didnt KNOW anything or even find MDC till dd was already born and I was poking around on the net trying to figure out why I felt so ripped off)

I loved it so much I put it on my wish list and received it for Christmas last year. Definitely my favorite so far. :)

Other memoirs you might enjoy: Vaginal Politics (less humor in that one), A Midwife's Story, and Listen to Me Good. There are others as well but I haven't read them- yet.

Oh, good fiction- The Midwife by Gay Courter and the sequel The Midwife's Advice. I loved those.

this is one of my all-time favorite books!!!!!

Just finished: Pushed: The Painful Truth About Childbirth's Modern Maternity Care. NOT funny or lovely, but an amazing book full of much needed info! I highly recommend it.

Loved it! Read it last pg....need to read it again! :)

Another good one is Why Not Me? (http://www.amazon.com/Why-Not-Me-Gladys-Midwife/dp/0913990973/ref=sr_1_1/105-8878968-5728441?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194132490&sr=1-1)
by Gladys Milton. It's a short read, and especially interesting to me because she lived and practiced just miles from where I live. Amazing story! :thumb

I just finished rereading it and brought it, along with my beloved copy of Spiritual Midwifery, to my cousin's baby shower this afternoon! She wants an unmedicated birth and I just couldn't explain how inspirational and educational those books are!

Definitely a fave book of mine.

Another favourite in the fiction side is The Birth House by Ami McKay. I have read it 4 times already this year.

I agree, very good read (for those who haven't read it, it's a novel not a memoir). I forgot about that one!
