I don't want to scare anyone but share our experience. I didn't vax my sons when they were little and always figured we might do some selective/delayed vaxing when they were well over two. I ended up waiting until my son's were 3 and 5 and we were heading to international development work in Africa. Even then we just a got a few specific to Africa and Dtap and Polio, we skipped MMR and others, but I believe they have harmed my older son. After his first vax, he became aggressive with other children and got the worst ear infection of his life within weeks, the first time we had to use antibiotics. After my almost 6 year old's second round of shots, he had a reaction: large red welt, fever, and at first wouldn't respond to our voices in the morning. He had some prior sensory/coordination issues, but they have become so much worse. His attention and behavior have deteriorated. He is stutttering, having working memory and auditory and visual processing issues. This is for a previously highly verbal child. I'm convinced not that the vaccines contributed to the problems. I shutter to think what might have occurred if I had done the typical series of vaccinations when he was a baby. In our case, delaying vaccinations did not prevent the problems I always wanted to protect him from. I so wish I could take back those shots, but you can't. You can never take them back.:(

Hugs mama. We've gone back and forth so many times on what to do. My baby is nearing the age of vax and I'm not sure what we'll do. Thank you for sharing.

This is always something to keep in mind if one chooses to vax....it dosn't necessarily matter when a child is vaxed sometimes. Thank you mama *hug*

Thank you for sharing your son's story. I am so sorry. :(

This is something I am struggling with at the moment. My dd just turned four and I am going through the insecurity stage of my deciding to stop vaxing her when she was an infant and whether I should resume some vaxes. Your story is helpful to me. Thank you.

Oh, I'm sorry. Our daughter had a bad reaction to her 3rd DTaP - she didn't sleep, and she developed a huge welt on her thigh. She probably had a fever, too - we didn't measure. We took her in to the doctor to make sure it was the DTaP given on that side, and to have him see it and document it, and he said it was "normal." She was normal before the vaccine!

She is fine now, but we are not giving her the 4th DTaP. She is clearly one of the 85% of babies who forms antibodies after only 3.

I hope your sons heal.

thank you for sharing and ((hugs)) we can relate here as our 4yo ds just had his booster after being pressured into it. his entire arm from shoulder to finger tips swelled like a bat, was red and hot, and he had a low grade fever. i called the ped out of concern and was told this was entirely normal:( our newest one is 6 months and totally vax free but his last well check up was a nightmare and we now are looking for another ped. we are 100% sure our oldest ds was affected by his vaxes (add, ld's, and now are being requested to have him tested for aspergers) when he was a babe and we were young unknowing parents who believed the peds knew best and wouldn't tell us something not entirely true. do you believe they wanted to give him the new cervical cancer vax at his 14 yr well check up this summer?! i was like, he doesn't have a cervix! but they are stating they are showing benefits for boys as well??? this is just crazy. sorry to get sidetracked but thanks so much for reminding us and sharing ((hugs))

my 5 year old DSS seemed to have a reaction to the chicken pox vaccine. now i have no say in what vaccines he recieves, I am his step mom, but his mom took him to get the vaccine and then brought him to daycare. he slept for 2.5 hours at nap time, which for him and or any 5 year old for that matter, is a long nap. he then proceeded to get an ear infection. connection? yes, i think so.

I too delayed vaxes for my second son until he was 3 1/2. by 4 1/2 he had lost eye-contact and notably his ability to put together sentences. He is 8 now and ASD. I have no doubt the vaccines contributed to his regression. I think there is a false sense of safety in a delayed schedule. Thanks for sharing your story.

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope it goes a long way in helping others with their decisions. It seems you can delay the inevitable, but that is all.

I don't want to scare anyone but share our experience. .:(
