As I sit here writing this, I am sipping my first cup of de-caf coffee....

I typically enjoy 2 cups of (caffienated) coffee in the morning, but have switched to decaf. I'm NOT looking forward to the imminent headache this afternoon, but feel OK about the choice to switch.

...maybe I'll cut down to 1 decaf....

...maybe...

anyone else struggle with this? missing their coffee? what are you planning on doing?

hope everyone is well,
charlene

Yeah i think it would be easier to cut back gradually and eliminate the headaches. I am fortunate to not be a caffinated coffee drinker (it made me too jittery), but I do drink regular tea - but usually only 1 cup a day. I think a little caffeine is okay (moderation is always the key - well except with alcohol while pg! lol)

Yeah, I was a caffeine junkie--I'd just drink cups of coffee all day long at work because it was free and I'm cheap and it was warm and I was cold and it woke me up a bit since I never get enough sleep. Seemed like a match made in heaven. But when we decided to start ttc, I gradually switched to one cup of caffeinated in the AM, then a few cups of tea (mostly herbal) or decaf for the rest of the day. That's about where I am now. I've read that 2 cups a day are ok, so I figure I'll try to stick to one, plus herbal tea to keep me warm. I've been splurging on fun teas, like Ginger Peach White, Jasmine Matcha, Blueberry, etc., so I don't miss the coffee so much. I don't get headaches as long as I have that first cup of coffee in the AM.

Since Conceiving my DD in May 2005 I have been at 1 cup of caffeine /day, I LOVE my coffee, I would drink more if I could but I felt 1 was the most I wanted to even chance (the research swings both way so I decided to just pick a minimal amount that both sides seemed to feel was "safe", I also think later on, especially in the 3rd trimester most thing are OK in moderation, your babe is much more robust by then.). Since then with BFing (I am still going) anymore than one made me feel a bit jittery so I kept it at 1, now with TTC I have dropped it all together over a few months or so slowly. Now I drink herbal tea ALL DAY and water, the red raspberry leaf is supposedly really good for pregnant mom's, their is even a tribe here on mom's using it during pregnancy:wink. I had a cup of caffeinated coffee last weekend and could barely finish it. It made me really light headed :dizzy:. BUT WOW do I miss it. :(

I will continue, as I always have, to enjoy my one cup of coffee a day. Without it, I will not function.

As long as you aren't drinking a pot a day, one cup is fine. :)

Ah, coffee!
For my first pregnancy, I cut it out entirely. I don't think I'm capable of it with this one-it's almost a necessity in my daily routine. However, I did notice a few days ago that I didn't feel like drinking it..whihc is when I truly began to think I was pregnant! I'm having a cup a day (max) and I think that's fine. My MW/books I've read said anything under 3 cups/day is fine.

Not a coffee drinker, but I do love my black tea. Last time, I completely lost my taste for tea around week 5, and so I decided to give it up for the first trimester. This time I'm also avoiding caffeine (except for chocolate) for the first trimester only.

I've been drinking hot chocolate or caffeine-free chai lattes in the morning. It's a nice way to get in a big helping of calcium.

I'm so surprised that no one has mentioned Dandy Blend... http://www.dandyblend.com/index.htm. It's my go-to when I shouldn't be drinking the Sweet Dark Heavenly Nectar that I adore. It tastes really good and is very good for you. You can find it in health food stores.

Same here! I used to literally dream about drinking that delicious cup of coffee in the morning and then a week or so ago, I just didn't want it. It made my stomach all yucky. I think a cup a day is fine, but I guess my bean doesn't care for coffee. Yawn...

I am slowly weaning off my Starbucks addiction. I used to drink a venti everyday and now I am down to a tall. Hopefully soon I will be totally caffeine-free.

Yeah, I am TRYING to cut back too--I've pretty much stopped coffee (though did backslide with a small cup yesterday) but am still having a little black tea. I am just SOOO tired and have both a full-time job and an 18 month old (who woke up about 12 times last night!! WHY?? :dizzy:) So it is hard to stop, I just can't afford to take naps and get to bed as I know I need to. I will try harder to take care.

I'm giving up my beer and I'm giving up the occassional ciggerette :duck: ...I'm not giving up my morning coffee!

Seriously though, I do think that caffine in moderation is ok. :)

I gave up my Dr. Pepper and the occassional iced coffee about a week ago. It's hard since I've been so tired lately.
