I know there are a few of us... I'm due around August 10th:). I'm still in shock. It took so long to get pregnant with my first and this was only our 2nd try! I'm excited and overwhelmed and am hoping to keep nursing as long and my babe wants the boob.

Still nursing here. I nursed Keith through half of my pregnancy with Henry, and I plan on nursing through this whole pregnancy and then tandem nursing after baby arrives. It all depends on Henry though lol.

I am still nursing Tristan (he's 2 1/2) and he shows NO signs of slowing down either. Its not really bothering me too much yet except early early in the morning and that is just because I'm SOO tired and it keeps me awake.
I will keep going until he wants to stop (if he does, I imagine he'd just comfort nurse if I let him) and will probably tandem once the new baby is here. I have NEVER done that before, but I don't want Tristan to feel like the baby has replaced him at the breast. He's pretty possessive of them now LOL He doesn't like hubby to go near them :p

still going strong, well EPing that is (not by choice:gloomy:). My supply is currently tanking and my DD is upset:guilty. I don't know how long I will still have a reasonable amount of milk. Until 16mths I easily made over 30oz, then AF came for the first time and was down to between 22-25oz. And each month AF came I would loose just a bit more. Last cycle when I was preggers and MCed I went down to around 15-18oz and just yesterday at 21.5mths I am down to only 11oz:bang.
These preg hormones are doing a real number on my supply. I have already been at this for way longer than I thought I could maintain just pumping. It has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do, pumping 4hrs a day + bottle feeding + bottle & pump part cleaning:hammer. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry:crying. I told my hubbie that if I KNEW that the next baby I would have to EPump for I would not have anymore kids, formula is just NOT an option I want to entertain, if I can make milk I will find a way to do it:shy.
I have read soo much on :bfsand am SOOOO looking forward to BFing this new bean. It is really all I can think about since I am still pumping 1.5hrs each day. :dizzy:

I would TOTALLY tandum & CLW. I think it is just the most natural course of things. Being smack in the middle of MLW due to my dwindling supply I KNOW this is not the best way for my DD. She would nurse for many years to come if allowed, she shows NO signs of really being ready to wean but I just don't have any more milk and she WONT nurse so we are stuck. I wish their were other options. :crying:guilty
How's everyone else's supply? Have the babes been acting strange, switching sides alot, asking for more milk, just being a bit more fussy?

Still nursing here too and it seems like the past few weeks DS has wanted to nurse MORE than he has the past few months. Not sure if that's pregnancy related. I think my supply is dropping, though. I never feel "full" anymore even if he goes ages without nursing (few and far between, though :lol) or feel much letdown.

You know, I just can't tell. Tristan has ALWAYS been a side switcher, he does it constantly. Sometimes he will switch sides like every minute, and then others he's content with just one side for a while.
I think that in the last few days he has been nursing more (in early morning anyway) than before. The only "new" thing thats been happening is when I say "Ok say bye to the milk" to get a break from the nursing and try and distract him he does so very easily. Usually only lasts a few minutes though :lol
He would never say "bye" before lol he'd look at me while still attached, smile, and shake his head "no" all while having the nipple held firmly in his mouth.
So...I don't know if it is different or less right now.

I'm not sure about my milk yet either. I have been starving for about two weeks... eating for three! She has been switching sides like crazy the last couple days. She's also been eating more solids, but is still nursing about the same. I ate a huge bowl of oatmeal this morning (along with eggs and veggies my DH scrambled up for me... and a peanutbutter cookie... and some yogurt) so hopefully I can keep nourishing me, my babe, and the belly! I read last night that for some women, nursing keeps the M/S away. Here's to that thought!

I have noticed a change in my little avid nursling. She has been switching sides and nursing for much shorter duration. This started about two weeks ago so I'd say it's the pg hormones at work. The last two nights she has wanted to nurse constantly which she usually doesn't do. Hmmm, we'll see where we are headed.

^ same here. My little Sydling is also nursing a LOT more at night (which is just CRAZY). I'm drinking a gallon of water a day hoping to keep all my pipes runnning. I'm finish the gallon by bedtime & wake up in the middle of the night absolutely parched. No wonder I'm all bloated! :lol

My 2 1/2 dd still nurses 2-3 times a day (more when we're together all day), but I haven't had much milk for months now and haven't gotten a let-down in ages. I haven't noticed any changes in her behavior that couldn't be attributed to potty learning, teething (yes, still) or something else developmental. I'm planning on tandem nursing, as long as the wee one can get her share. I have a friend who avidly nursed her first two, but when the third came, the second was still sucking her dry and she couldn't produce enough milk for the baby. She had low-milk issues in general anyways, but I'm wondering how to make sure the baby can nurse without having dd feel thwarted and jealous

I'm in this group!! I'm still shocked to see a positive after 2 years of trying!! Anyway, I am still nursing DD who is 3. I don't see her slowing down either. I see myself tandem nursing them both! I'm so excited!!
I'll just start taking about how she'll have to share the "nummies" and get her used to the idea along the way!!

I did notice supply drop, before I took the pregnancy test and then understood I had supply issues. I am actually adding in herbs. I found this site. http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/bf/galact.asp (scroll down for herbs that are safe for bfing and pregnancy.) I ordered the ones that vitacost had-everything but the dill and just started last night. I am hoping that it will help. I really want enough milk for my DD! I did nurse through the last pregnancy and did tandem for about a year. I was a selective tandem mom though. She only nursed at nap time and then bedtime. I did wean for my own sanity. I got very touched out and irritable with her towards the end of our nursing relationship and it felt right to wean her at 3 years. As far as tandem nursing, I recommend reading the LLL book Adventures in Tandem Nursing. That explained lots of my issues that I thought were totally crazy. We did have the talk alot about sharing our nursing. This helped prepare her for DD who would get first chance to nurse since she can't eat solid foods yet. Worked great for us.

:wave I am nursing my almost-8-month-old around the clock and will be tandem nursing. This pregnancy was unplanned and I have had bigger spaces between my other children so I always weaned early in pregnancy. I won't do that this time though, since Grahame is so young.

Still nursing my 2 1/2 year old. She just nurses once a day now for nap time.
I nursed my son when pregnant with her and it got really excruciating toward the end so I gradually weaned him about a month before dd was born. I figured we needed to bond in other ways because it was just getting too painful for me. After she was born he asked to nurse a few times and I obliged, but he decided he wasn't all that interested anymore. Have some cute pics of him "nursing" his doll at 2 1/2.
In light of that, I wouldn't mind if my daughter decides to wean. She already tells me after a few minutes that the milk is "all gone!" She doesn't seem too disappointed though. Nursing her was a beautiful time for us, but I won't mind moving on to the next phase...

I have lost over 10oz just this week and a total of about 15 since I became preggers 7wks ago tomorrow. This is leaving me with less than 3oz total for today!!!!!!!:(
Since I am just pumping I think I may be able to keep this up for a week or so more but thats it. I imagine if this keeps up no matter how much I pump I will be down to less than 1oz/day, and I can't for my sanity keep pumping for so little. I am currently pumping 1.5hrs/day to only get less than 3oz/day and even that is a bit crazy in my mind. :o
I knew I had a really good possibility of totally loosing my Supply but I never realized it could happen so fast. I had a really established supply also since I had been religiously doing this for 22mths. But I guess my body had other plans. :guilty I just wish my DD actually nursed and I might be able to convince her to continue even though their was no milk. :bawl
I am not planning on telling my family until after the new year but this is going to involve some lieing on my part. I EPump so everyone knows that I have to go off to pump at least once when I visit. But if I don't go pump at xmas and new-years they will know something is up. I rather not tell them that I QUIT pumping "just because I wanted to or I got tired of it" but because I am pregnant and my supply totally dissapeared. (In reality I would have kept pumping at least until she was 2. ) I have not had the best support with pumping and I want them to know the REAL reason why I stopped not some made up reason to cover that I am pregnant. So I think i will just go off to pump and instead read a book and relax for 30mins:D. Then in Jan when I see them again they can hear that I am preggers and that I stopped pumping when my supply went to zero. If they can't respect that then forget them:angry.

I'm still nursing both of my kids. My DS will be 3 in January and DD is 15 months. I'm trying to convince DS that he might be done nursing when he has his #3 birthday. It's not going over at all. DD is still nursing all the time, as 15 month olds do. When I got pregnant with DD, DS was 12 months old. I had all the discomfort and almost no milk, but I still nursed him for the entire 9 months and he's still going strong. So I expect to nurse DD for this entire pregnancy and past it.
If you keep nursing through your entire pregnancy, tandem nursing is EASY after that! I LOVE tandem nursing. . . my kids hold hands and look at each other and at me while we nurse. It is a very special time.

OMG, I hope this works for me! I am not nauseous yet (it usually develops later for me) but I would be thrilled if nursing helped with it!
I've never nursed through an entire pregnancy before. Are there any tips or things I should keep in mind to keep my supply up and my own health good?

Someone I knew almost nursed 3 kids at the same time, but her older one weaned when the milk came in, they didn't like how fast it came out!! I bet that would be awesome though!!
DD keeps talking about sharing the nummies. She will almost be 4 when the baby will be born and I see her nursing till atleast 5 or so...but maybe pregnancy will change that!

Just wanted to share. I posted above that milk was dwindling well it has taken a further turn for the worst, I don't think it will last another 2 weeks so this is the end. I posted (http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=809958)about it in the BFing forum. So I guess my stay here has been shortened dramatically. Well wishes to everyone lucky enough to continue thought this pregnancy and beyond. :love

I'm still bfing 17mo ds. I went through 23 weeks of pg this year and really had to work to keep my supply. Like you all, I ate oatmeal, drank bfing tea, hydrated like crazy, etc. I know we dipped way low, but I gritted my teeth through the nipple pain and let ds nurse as often and as long as he wanted. I know he got frustrated, but it was all worth it when my milk came back in. He was sooooo happy (and so was I) I am planning on tandem nursing, too. I loved reading Adventures in Tandem Nursing, it helped me understand how flexible I'll be able to be with it and still serve the best interests of us all as nursing partners in this relationship. Oh, and I wanted to add that, ds dropped some weight when my milk supply dipped as it coincided with him getting mobile. He's back up now in his weight, so I'l be interested to see what happens this time.
BakerALM- :hug It sounds like you are going through a really tough time with bfing. I hope you don't mind my asking (and please excuse me if I missed your explanation), why do you exclusively pump?

That's my favorite part, too! :love I hope that my DS3 and the next babe will be able to share that relationship, too!
My 18m DS is nursing still, but my supply seems to have picked up! :innocent I had surgery for abscesses in one breast when he was 6m old and weaned him from that side (bad story! :( ) and we've learned to function with only one breast. This breast feels more full and I can feel the letdown stronger since I've been pregnant. He gulps now; he didn't before, and he nurses much longer each session...

My supply is dropping rapidly and the nipple pain is excrutiating... DD had her first bottle of formula last night:crying. She has been a bear for several days - I really think that she is just hungry. She grabbed the bottle and went to town and it was only like her 5th tiome with the bottle (others were EBF). I am not going to go cold turkey with the BF but I guess we are slowing down.

BakerALM- :hug It sounds like you are going through a really tough time with bfing. I hope you don't mind my asking (and please excuse me if I missed your explanation), why do you exclusively pump?
Totally Ok to ask! Well the short story (since i would really need a whole afternoon to write out the full version, it is more complicated and more drawn out than even any birth story I have read:irked:) basically my DD came out with a REALLY bad latch, she had what was called clampdown bite reflex along with a short latch. The hospital LCs were very very hurtful, when I was crying in pain they just told me to grin and bear it the latch looks fine. :angry Well after awhile in the hospital I think behind the scenes I was labeled as a "complaining mom who really does not truly want to BF". I had only read the basics about BFing, like how to latch a babe and not to restrict access to the breast but not how to deal with a very complicated problem. By the time I left the hospital I was told to let my "nipples rest" and the pain would get better, just pump some feedings and give bottles when my nipples got really bad. So when I got home I called EVERYONE I could think of but of course they turned out to be all the WRONG people. :( I told my family doc the situation and that even pumping hurt a TON, like put me in tears so he just told me not to pump either for a few days. (the bad advice keeps coming!!!) So by this time I have run to the store for formula since I was not pumping either, I was just crying all the time, I did not know what to do or who to turn to. By day 2 my babe was already REFUSING the breast for the bottle, she was the poster child for NIPPLE CONFUSION! It hit hard and made everything else impossible. I could not get her to latch just a few days after birth. :cry AFter toting her around the state from LC to doc to talking to LLL leaders on the phone we figgred out she had clampdown bite and a VERY short latch. I went back to the hospital and talked to the original IBCLC that was so horrible in the begining and she said that in all her years she has only seen a few babes with clampdown and all the moms quit BFing, no-one was successful, she did not really even know how to treat the condition. (More bad advice!)
Well at about week 3 I am still pumping and have obtained a hospital grade pump, crying every time I pump since I want to BF and it hurts so bad. I found a good IBCLC at about that time and she really saw the latch problem AND the bigger problem, MAJOR Nipple Confusion and a VERY temperamental babe. My babe would SCREAM bloody murder if you just turned her into my breast to try to BF, she would feel the position and SCREAM. It was impossible to even get her to put the nipple in her mouth to even work on the horrible latch. The hospital really Messed this all up, I trusted the so called professionals at my time of need and learned a very valuable lesson, I really can't trust anyone! :irked:
Well in the end at about 4mths PP I gave up truly trying to get my babe to BF, I had all the crazy apparatuses, SNS, finger feeders, cups, you name it but she would not latch ever! So I pumped and pumped and pumped, the pain never went away until at 8mths PP, I got a very very high temp with a stomach bug, when the cold subsided so did the breast pain. My LC thinks I must have had an infection in my breast causing the severe pain. But it never look suspicious, red or swollen. she really does not know what it could have been.
I know better next time and who not to trust, I have basically read everything I can get my hands on to do with BFing so I feel armed and ready to make this work. I feel with the right set of circumstances and alot of pain and suffering i could have got my DD to BF but too much bad advice and not knowing how to filter it out just left for a horrible outcome. And a very very long road for my Family to endure, EPing was really hard.
sorry for the downer, and I guess this turned into a long post either way, but I promise I left a ton out! :p

Still nursing my 3 yr old. My 5 yr old when last month on his 5th bday. After tandem nursing for 3 yrs, I am enjoying having just one nursling in and one on the way. My 3 yr old will probably wena during the pg though, he isn't a big boob-a-holic like my older son was. My breasts feel firmer but don't seem to have much milk. Tender nips, hurts to have them bumped.
I agree, if you make it through pg, the tandem part is a joy!

Hey Mamas,
I'm still nursing along with my 23 month old dd. I weaned my ds during my pregnancy as my body made me do it (I had intended on CLW but felt such strong aversions I weaned him over 5 months) but I hope to avoid that with dd. She still nurses a lot so I think it would be a big strain on her to wean. I am planning on night weaning her after the holidays as I think we're both ready for it.

I just found out I'm pregnant and due around the 24th of August. My little nursling just turned 3. (We found out on his birthday!) My nips are pretty sore, but nothing compared to when we where first nursing. My problem is the fatigue. By the end of the day I'm soooo exhausted. He still nurses alot, day and night. I'd probably be tired even if I wasn't nursing though. I want to let him go as long as he wants, but I've already noticed a drop in my supply. Hopefully we can keep nursing and tandem nurse, I'm an abundant producer so I know I'd have enough then. My thoughts are with all of you!

Nipple soreness is way way better (6.5 weeks) so we are still going strong - baby is having a little bit of formula now although I know I probably shouldn't so that my supply stays up as much as possible but I swear she is hungry! And she is only about 15.5 pounds which is pretty darn small for 10 months so I want to make sure all is well. But praise God for the sore nipples passing!

And she is only about 15.5 pounds which is pretty darn small for 10 months so I want to make sure all is well. But praise God for the sore nipples passing!
Oh, you're so lucky! I have pain on one side which makes me try to avoid nursing when it's that side's "turn." What's weird is that it only hurts at first, and gets better as he keeps nursing. It almost feels like when we first started and he was learning to latch. Odd.

It was fine till now but the nipples are starting to hurt. I remember this from last time too. It was so bad that I gently weaned dd by 10 weeks.
I regretted it though and won't be doing that this time.

Is anyone else planning on nightweaning? My twins will be 2 on New Year's Eve and we are nightweaning them. They would wake up about 6 times a night to nurse (each) and I just could not take it anymore. I got no sleep and I was waking up all shakey. So right now they are sleeping with dh in the other room and it is going pretty well. They don't like it but I feel like they are adjusting faster than I expected. They appear to accept comfort from dh when they wake in the middle of the night although they do call for me. Typically they stay all night with dh and when they wake up around 6 or 7 they will come to bed with me. They still nurse a ton during the day, though. I have't decided what I am going to do yet, about weaning them. I nursed all 3 of them for 18 months before I weaned my oldest ds when he was 4. I think if I am only having one baby this time, I will give nursing 3 again another try, but if I am having twins again, they are so getting weaned! :lol Gently, of course.

:wave I am nursing my almost-8-month-old around the clock and will be tandem nursing. This pregnancy was unplanned and I have had bigger spaces between my other children so I always weaned early in pregnancy. I won't do that this time though, since Grahame is so young.
I'm in the same boat! I'm nursing my almost 8-month old full time and we just found out we're expecting AGAIN! I'm a little worried about being able to feed my DD since she's pretty uninterested in solid foods. What are you doing to keep your supply up? I'm trying to nurse as often and for as long as possible to keep it going. Also, i'm drinking tons of water and eating as much good stuff as possible.

Still nursing our 20 month old daughter, but hoping to gently cut her back soon. She nurses A LOT and it is very sore and uncomfortable for me. We are trying substituting soy milk, distraction and limitation, but she is just a different bird when she doesn't get her "milkie". and it is breaking my heart. I just suffered a loss in Oct, and was nursing her then as well. I wonder if it had anything to do with it, so I am more motivated to wean her before this one is born-if we make it that far...

Doing the same as you to keep supply up -- lots of water, good food and rest. Are you as ravenously hungry as I am? I assume that it's the nursing while pregnant that is making me so hungry. Good luck to you -- I hope we are both able to nurse as long as we wish!

Here is a good link to help. http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/index.html Since your baby is pretty picky, I would start with first foods and go from there. They do say that it takes introducing food up to 20 times before it is accepted. I know that avacados, bananas, sweet potatoes were all big hits here & still are. Sometimes the sweet foods are more readily accepted since they are similar to breastmilk.
I am continuing to breastfeed and do it pretty often. I am taking nettle leaf and blessed thistle to help with my supply. I don't think I am going to night wean until much later in this pregnancy.

I just found out I'm preg today. I'm still nursing my ds who just turned 1 many times a day and night. He takes solids well, but he loves his "nunny" (NAK now)! Fortunately, my ds3 weaned a few months ago. Anyway, I feel like my supply is pretty good, but he has been a bit fussy at the breast. I am a little sore, but not too bad. I got a really bad aversion to nursing when I was pregnant last time, but nursed through it. I'm not sure how it will go this time. I'd like to have a bit of a break in between, even though tandeming was an okay experience for me before. Glad to see other in the same/similar boat. :hugs to those of you with picky eaters - hope you can find something that helps.

Does anyone know offhand if Mother's Milk tea is safe during pregnancy? I thought I remembered it was a no... TIA.

I just found out yesterday!! Just about 4 weeks. I'm technically due 9/1/08, but I didn't get to 40 weeks with either of my other children so I highly doubt I will this time. I am still nursing #2. He is nightweaned and only nurses when he asks during the day (he does the "milk" sign) which is about 5 times a day. I had planned to at least get to 18 months especially since he was 6 weeks early. I'll just have to see how I feel. I'm not sure how my milk will hold out either. So far it is not uncomfortable at all and he keeps getting colds so I don't feel he should wean yet.

I know that the Earth Mama Angel Baby mother's tea is not safe during pregnancy, but this is ok. My friend used it just fine. http://www.motherlove.com/product_more_milk_two_glycerite.php

Still going strong here. My ds is 17 mos and still nurses several times a day and once at night. I'm thankfully not sore and not feeling much m/s. I hope that is because of the nursing. I did nurse my dd until I was 12 weeks pg w/ my ds, she self weaned. I'm thinking that I'll be tandem nursing this time, as ds nurses so much more than my dd ever did at this age. I still don't know my due date, as I haven't had a PP af yet!

Nursing is starting to give me cramps if he does it too long. This concerns me. I suppose I need to teach him some limitations.

I've been sooo sick the last few days and DD has been nursing soooo much. She's been nursing for a couple hours each morning between 5 and 7 am after I bring her into bed with us. Last night, she slept until 4am and I nursed her and put her back in her crib and then she slept until 9:30. I have felt better today than I have in weeks. I think the long nursing session in the early morning was pushing my body too much. It could also be the massive quantites of lasagna I have been consuming :wink Anyone else feeling like nursing and morning sickness are related?

I have never heard or read that. It makes sense, to me, that pregnancy and nursing put a lot of demands on your body though.

I thought I'd posted in this thread earlier in the month but I mustn't have. DS is almost 21 mths and still not night-weaned. We're planning to nightwean soon... we just moved and our other bedroom is full of the owner's furniture, so when that is moved, DS will probably sleep beside daddy for a while. Nursing is painful but he's catching on with the open wide to get a good latch thing, and then it isn't so painful. But I am going insane with the lack of sleep. He hasn't started complaining of a drop in supply but who knows. I really would love to tandem.

I see in your siggy that your second babe was born at 34 weeks, what about your first? I'm a little worried this one may try to come earlier than my 1st, and I'm wondering if you have read much about nursing during pregnancy when you've had a previous preemie birth?

DS was born at 36 weeks as well. Do you worry at all about nursing causing premature labor with this babe? Obviously I don't know the circumstances around your 13mth old's birth, but mine was SROM at 36+3... barely preterm, but still enough to bother me that this one may come even earlier, and that nursing may up the chance of that happening.
