Hello just stopping by for some quick answers.
My DS was 11 weeks old Friday, and I got AF sometime last night while I was sleeping. I was really shocked, I EBF and I nurse every 2-2.5 hours on average.
Yesterday morning we went to church. I fed DS at 9:45 and he was done at about 10:00. I didn't feed him again until 2pm-ish. I was thinking that could have had something to do with my supply, but that is only 4 hours so I am not sure. I noticed after the 2pm feeding yesterday that my supply seemed really low. LO would nurse for a minute or 2 with swallowing, and then he would suckle and be frustrated that there was nothing coming out. I offered 3rd and 4th breast even, and I tried to pump last night because he wasn't staying latched. We have been past the latch problem since week 2, so I know it isn't that. Well when I pumped, I couldn't even get 1 oz, and I pumped both breasts. I know the pump will never be as effective as he is, but I can usually pump 3-3.5 oz. out of both.

Today I have had to nurse him like every 30 minutes (unless he was napping) and he didn't seem to be getting anything. I am drinking a ton of water and still have seen no improvement.

Does AF dry people up? Why did she return so soon?

i think that your production can drop for a day or two. i really noticed this my first two postpartum cycles, but now that i'm on my 4th or 5th cycle since AF's returned, i haven't noticed a decrease. maybe it just takes a couple of months for your body to figure out that it needs to do both at once? i've also heard that extra calcium can help if you have it a couple of days before AF shows up; hopefully someone knows more about this than i do :o.

holy cow, yes it affects your supply. At least it does mine. I'm exclusively pumping for my dd and so I really have a feel for my supply and it's up's and down's. It takes mine down for about 4 days or so and then I can get it back up.

My cycles came back early with both kids, at about the same time as yours. I think it varies a bit woman-to-woman, but the hormones do affect milk production. On the plus side, the extra nursing your LO does will help increase your supply (though I don't think it's needed--my littlest one is now 19mos old and doesn't nurse extra when my supply is low, at least I don't think he does, and my milk goes back to the regular amount after a few days). I think when cycles resume is also very individual. Statistically, baby sleeping through the night (not nursing at night, I mean) and mom being overweight are related to cycles starting sooner, but mostly it seems to be individual differences.

I got my first af about 3 months pp. Its so unfair because I bf around the clock, baby still isn't sleeping through the night. I have noticed a decrease in supply, especially during my second af. I never really thought there was a connection until now. I had a bad cold and was dehydrated when I had my last af, so its hard to pinpoint the cause of my supply drop. I just started drinking mothers milk tea and that's helped significantly.

My supply dips when I have my period also. Oatmeal REALLY helps me, and if I eat a bowl in the morning, I am completely engorged by noon (when I would otherwise not be). I know it doesn't work for everybody, but it does work for me.

ok well it is good to know.

I am not overweight, and LO isn't sleeping through the night.

I got AF back when DS was 11 weeks (despite EBF). Bummer, huh. At least DS is sleeping through the night (or was...bad week this week). Anyway, I noticed that my supply dropped slightly during AF (and also maybe the day before? DS was super duper extra fussy and was refusing the breast the day before AF arrived...maybe a taste change? I still don't know what was up with that), but my supply returned no problem once she left town.
