OK, so I am still without health insurance and nothing is working out. So I'm wondering if you all know of any part-time jobs out there that give health insurance. I'd prefer not to wait three months for coverage. Well, I'd prefer not to work as this was my big year off to go to school and be with my little guy before he starts kinder, but oh well.

So, throw any suggestion my way!

part-time, with health coverage ASAP...

Thanks!

I believe their policy requires a certain amount of time (like 3 months), and/or a number of hours you have to hit. Once upon a time it was like 240 hours.

Very few places will offer insurance right away. :hug

mmm my job but I'm still using it. Twenty hours a week, sick, vacation and health insurance if I wanted it.

I know some grocery stores do for checkers if they are union.

That's what I was going to say, but when I worked there years ago it did take sometime for the benefits to start.

I believe Whole Foods offers pretty decent benefits to pt employees. That's how my SIL gets her insurance.

Any Darden restaurant offers day one insurance....and it means just that, you are covered from day one. It isn't great insurance, but after being on it for one year you can up grade and the next insurance is AWESOME!!

Darden restaurants are...
Olive Garden
Smokey Bones
Bahama Breeze
Red lobster
and I think maybe
Longhorn, but I am not sure about that...

Good Luck

Major airlines also generally offer benefits that begin on the first day. Jetblue, American, etc.

Hey Mama-

Not sure where you live but in California you could probably get at least your son covered under California Healthy Families. I used to be a manager at Jamba Juice and I remember anyone could get health insurance even if they only worked a few hours a week but there might have been a waiting period but that could have been for the 401(K) program, I can't remember, its worth looking into if you have one by you.

Home Depot also offers benefits to part time employees I believe.

You might also check with local hospitals. I don't know where you live, but here in Scottsdale, AZ, the local hospital gives great benefits and you only have to work 16 hours/week to get them and I think they kick in right away.

Good luck!

We are actually and my kids are covered. I'm trying ot get AIM or medi-cal (looks more like medi-cal), but all the doctors I know of don't take it. I asked for a list of who does and the medi-cal folks said to go through the yellow pages and ask each doctor: not my ideal way of finding a doc.

I will check with Jamba.

Everyone,
Thank you so much for these suggestions so far. I will check them each out.

Telle Bear,
I love waitressing, but I am not sure how I will last with being pregnant. Still, I will check it out, 'cuz day one sounds good. Thanks!

Thank you, all,
I knew I could count on you all for some ideas. It's great to have you, especially when I'm stuck!

Oh, and are people weird about hiring a pregnant lady? Should I dress in my baggy outfit?

Mami-

The truth is that people are weird about hiring a pregnant lady but the truth also is that they can't legally ask you about it or not hire you because you are pregnant unless you can't perform the job. I would do some online research.

Good luck mama (there is not a single day that goes by that I am not thankful for my health insurance)
